Holiday Edition Volume 4 • December 2014 Issue Music for the Season Library Hosts Musical Offerings for December In the spirit of the winter holidays, the Lincoln Parish Library is hosting four musical events for the community. All events are free and open to the public, so be sure to come along and enjoy with us! Pianist Richard Dowling Friday, December 5 @ 6:30 PM Library Events Center Back by popular demand! You may remember this amazing performer from the opening of the Library Events Center. He has returned to entertain us in this Piatigorsky Foundation Concert. Richard Dowling is an international star of piano and plays music as diverse in styles as classical, chamber, ragtime, jazz, and popular music. This will be a spectacular event you will not want to miss! Equinox Jazz Ensemble Tuesday, December 9 @ 6:00 PM Library Events Center Also back by popular demand, this ensemble from the Monroe area is sure to delight! The Equinox Jazz Ensemble is American Big-Band revival at its best, so don’t expect a dry recital. They incorporate everyone’s favorites in a highenergy, friendly package that will have young and old dancing along. Expect some jazz, soul, and gospel magic with a side of Christmas! The Light of Christmas Musical Presentation Saturday, December 13 @ 6:00 PM Library Events Center Calvary Baptist Church and Cook Baptist Church have joined forces, combining their choirs and an orchestra to bring to life The Light of Christmas by Phil Barfoot. This inspiring and gorgeous Christmas-themed collection features ten songs about the “reason for the season.” Between pieces, the group is also offering narration, personal testimony, and a heartfelt message from one of the pastors of these churches. There will also be refreshments. This presentation is offered as a fun, family-friendly way to join together as a larger community and celebrate together, so everyone is invited to attend and enjoy. LPL’s Holly Jolly Christmas Follies & Christmas Carol Sing A-Long Friday, December 19 @ 10AM Library Events Center Don’t let the cold weather get you down! Warm your hearts and spirits by coming to the LPL’s Holly Jolly Christmas Follies and Christmas Carol Sing-Along. Guests will enjoy hot chocolate and warm apple cider as they listen to classic Yuletide tunes performed by LPL’s own staff and friends. This variety show will also include a few comedy acts and a special book cart performance, not to mention favorite Christmas carols sung by all. If you have a song, poem, dance or story that you would like to share, contact Emily Arnold, Programming Coordinator, at 513-5544 to sign up and join in the fun! Let’s watch this classic cartoon together! December 23: Card Playing Day Do you like Solitaire, Go Fish, Old Maid, or Pokémon? Bring your own deck or use one of ours to play a game or two of your favorite card game! December 30: Art-Zee Do you like to play Yahtzee? Come create your own unique version of Art-Zee. Decorate your dice with 6 different pictures, then challenge your friends or family to a game! TAB) is a group of like-minded teens who get together once a month to discuss fun programs, the teen collections, and service projects. TAB is also a cool place to hang out and meet new teens. TAB meets the second Tuesday of every month. Hope to see you there! Teen Chess Club Monday, December 1 @ 6 PM Lincoln Parish Teens have formed a chess club. They get together monthly to play and have fun. All levels of play attend. Chess Club meets the first Monday of every month in the Vienna room at 6 PM. Come check it out! Lincoln Parish Library Between the Lines - December 2014 It was a night to remember! The Masters of Soul reminded us why we all love Motown. Louisiana State Library & the Louisiana Bar Association have started sharing, and we’re grateful! Our first Craft Fair in the Events Center was phenomenal. There were so many goodies everywhere! LPL Teen Advisory Board created 150 Thanksgiving cards for the local nursing homes. The patrons were very appreciative. Scary, scary skeletons! Gracie, Morgan, and Emma are full of stars.
