consequential or incidental damage or expenses of the Buyer including without limitation lost profits, whether or
not the Seller has been advised of the same.
9. BUYER’S INDEMNITY – The Buyer shall indemnify and hold Seller harmless from and against any and all losses, damages and expenses (including attorneys’ fees and other costs of defending any action) that the Seller

MANUAL DAY TANKS
Pryco MANUAL Day Tanks are identical to
Standard Day Tanks but do not have a
pump motor and a control system. This is to
facilitate possible future conversion to a
Standard pumping system by adding a few
parts. (All Manual day tanks have a removable cover.)
Like all of Pryco’s tanks Manual day tanks
are available as either a basic non-U/L
Listed configuration or a U/L Listed one
(Label 142 File #MH12807 - Above-ground
Tank for Flammable Liquids). Both include
the Standard Features listed below. The U/L
Listed tanks also include additional internal
reinforcement an emergency vent properly
sized to the tank and a U/L Listed label.
Pryco Tanks are fabricated of heavy gauge
steel by certified welders and are tested accordingly.

Day Tank .
USES OF MANUAL TANKS
Manual Tanks take on a variety of roles other
than that of a typical day tank. For example:
 Larger Manual tanks are often used as
the system’s main storage tank. In this
role they are normally used in conjunction
with a day tank with pump and controls.
(Consider a U/L Listed double walled
version.)
 Smaller versions may be used as a wallmounted “dry sump” for automatic engine
lubrication.
The only restriction is like all tanks they
should not be utilized as a pressurized vessel.
SECONDARY CONTAINMENT
DOUBLE WALL TANKS
and RUPTURE BASINS
All day tanks may be set within a Rupture
Basin or Open Top Dike. Rupture basins are
available with a minimum capacity of either
150% or 200% of the inner tank (the vessel
where fuel is normally stored). The inner
tank is used to determine rupture basin size.
Single wall day tanks may be set within either
a 150% or a 200% rupture basin whereas
those with double wall construction will only
fit within a 200% minimum capacity rupture
basin.
Weatherproof rupture basins are also available see Option 335 on page OP-20.

RUPTURE BASINS
All of Pryco’s day tanks (including double walled versions)
may be fitted within an open-top secondary container or
dike referred to at Pryco as a Rupture Basin. All Rupture
Basins are U/L Listed - #MH12807 “Open Top Diked
Aboveground Tank for Flammable Liquids”.
Rupture Basins are available in either 150% (option
#385) or 200% (option #386) models. Both are sized
according to the accompanying inner-most day tank.
Rupture Basins like all Pryco Tanks are fabricated of
heavy gauge steel by certified welders. Since a Rupture
Basin is open-dike, it cannot be pressure tested.
Each Rupture Basin has a 1” NPT drain and a ½" NPT
Threaded Pipe Connection for an optional #295 or #395
Leak Detector. Also as an option (#341) the inner tank
drain may be piped through the outer shell. The Rupture
Basins are painted Pryco (medium) Gray or an industrial color of choice.
A Weatherproof Cover (Option # 335RB) with a plexi-glass inspection port may be
included to preserve the integrity of a dry container especially when an optional leak
detector is installed.
LOCAL BUILDING and FIRE CODES
Most municipalities have codes
governing day tanks. Some are listed in
the Options section of this manual.
Check for local codes in your area.
SEISMIC REINFORCEMENT
All of Pryco’s Day Tanks can be fitted
with seismic reinforcement. Ask for
specifications of the earthquake versions
of our tanks.

Basin for this Double-Wall Day Tank.

1. The minimum capacity of secondary containment is based upon either 150% or 200% of the capacity of
the inner-most tank. For example Option #385/09 a 150% Rupture Basin for a 200 gallon day tank has

SUB-BASE TANKS
Pryco’s Sub-base Tanks are designed
specifically for generator set mounting. The
physical size of each depends upon the foot
print of the gen set and required capacity.
Sub-base Tanks are available in a Standard
or a U/L Listed design. The features and
characteristics of all sub-bases are listed on
page SB-4
Additionally, a
Standard or U/L Listed
Subbase may be fitted with Double-Wall
construction
(“Secondary Containment”).
Custom designed tanks are available to
accommodate large capacity Double Wall
and Rupture Basin requirements.
All sub-base tanks comply with NFPA 30,
Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code
and NFPA 110, Standard or Emergency
and Standby Power Systems.
When the secondary container “double
wall” is added, the tank also complies with
NFPA 37 - Standard for Installation and
Use of Stationary Combustible Engine and
Gas Turbine.
Consult factory for dimensions and pricing.

located, along with internal structural baffles, at each mounting hole.
U/L LISTED SUB-BASE TANKS
GEN-SET MOUNTING
The U/L Listing for our Sub-base Tanks is - Label-142.
Specifically, File #MH17469 lists the following:
•
Basic Sub-base Tanks - Generator Base Tanks,
•
Double Wall Sub-base Tanks - Secondary
Containment Generator Base Tank, and
•
Sub-base Tanks with Rupture Basin - Open Top
Diked Generator Base Tank.
The below restrictions apply to U/L Listed tanks:
•
Each U/L Listed tank has additional vents of proper
size for the tank and the double wall area, if present.
•
Width cannot exceed 82” and height cannot exceed
30”
•
Capacity - not to exceed 2000 gallons
Mounting of the gen-set to the
sub-base at the job site could
cost considerable time and
money. We’ll do it for you here at
the factory at a fraction of the
cost. Just have your gen-set
(and isolator, if any) shipped to us
and tell us what you want done.
In addition to the actual bolting of
the two together and connecting
the fuel line, we will make other
connection that you request.
When finished, we will send it on
to your job site or where
instructed.

CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERISTICS
•
Heavy Gauge Steel - 7-gauge steel for the top and side channels. Standard 12-gauge for
bottom, ends, and internal baffles; however, optionally, 7-gauge may be specified throughout.
Also, stainless steel is a great solution for a corrosive environment problem.
•
Internal Structural Baffles - located every mounting point and no more than 24 inches apart.
These baffles contribute to the overall strength of the tank but allow free flow of fuel.
•
Hot/Cold Baffles - this baffle is located between the engine-supply and the fuel return ports.
Its purpose is to separate the hotter returned fuel from the cooler supply fuel thus improving
engine performance.
•
Drain - 3/8” in tanks up to 200 gallons and 1” in 200+ gallon tanks. Double wall tanks have a
drain for both containment areas — the inner tank drain is “hard-plumbed” through the outer
area.
•
Connections - (1 ea.) 1½” for fuel level gauge; (2 ea.) 2” NPT for lockable fill cap and for vent;
(2 ea.) ½” for engine suction and for engine return; and (1 ea.) extra 1” opening for option, etc.
Note these connections are located on either or both side(s) depending upon gen-set and your
specifications.
•
Welded by Certified Welders and Supervisor tested to 5psi.
•
Finish - Primer and choice of industrial color enamel.

HOW TO ORDER
Typically, an optional conduit stub-up area is
located the full width of the generator end;
however, it may be located anywhere within the
the outer shell walls. It may be a two, three or four
sided window or island. A stub-up in a double
wall tank is also “double walled”.
It’s easy - just tell us your gen-set make and
model, size in gallon capacity, and any
options (shown on page SB-2) you need.
Our proprietary computer software, referring
to
our
extensive
gen-set
database,
determines physical footprint dimensions and
other requirements of your gen-set. (Custom
designs are also available.)
PUMPING CAPABILITIES
When equipped with a set of pump, motor and
controls, the sub-base tank takes on the duties of
a day tank with most control capabilities (see the
Options section).
Or, consider our powerful
electronic FCM (™) for precise level control, and
local and remote annunciation logging of all
conditions.
A priced quote and a drawing of three view of
the tank is then developed and sent to you for
review and/or approval.
NOTE - Mounting Rails, option #533, are
required for tanks wider than normal footprint
width (caused by expanding the width).

PUMP SETS
An open design duplex pump set (Model #PYPS1205)
set up to be bolted to the floor.
Pryco Pump Sets are high performance fuel system drivers. They are fully integrated,
pre-plumbed and pre-wired for trouble-free, “connect and go” installation. We offer a
wide range of configurations that will fulfill your requirements. They are intended to
transfer #2 fuel oil within an emergency generator system or oil burners.
The following configurations are available:
•
The PYPS1000 “Open Design” series — the components are mounted on a
bracket with a drip pan that may be placed directly on the floor or may be ordered with an integrated heavy duty bracket on the back side for wall mounting.
•
The PYPS2000 “Enclosed Design” series — the components of the this design
are mounted on a back-plate that is placed within an optional NEMA-1 or NEMA-3R enclosure (Option #338). The enclosure may be wall mounted or may
be ordered with legs for floor installation. See page PS-4 for a description of
the optional enclosures.
•
The PYPS3000 “Custom Design” series — for special requirements
Refer to page PS-3 for a list of options that are commonly ordered
with pump sets. Isolation valves provide for easy maintenance of the
pump and motor system. Also, fuel filters/separators and pressure
relief valves are ordered with most pump sets.
A pump set can accommodate both a supply and a return system.

PUMP SETS
For commercial and industrial reliability, we use positive
displacement, self-lubricating, bronze rotary gear pumps
with stainless steel shafts from Oberdorfer . We offer an
assortment of six models of pumps ranging from 2 GPM
up to 40 GPM. (Shown to the right is Oberdorfer’s #994
— 10GPM pump.) These pumps are close coupled to a
motor chosen to match your flow rate and other specific
requirements (refer to Pump/Motor Sizing on pages PS5
-PS6).
A single 2-GPM pump and 1/3 HP motor (and related
controls) are standard with all pump sets (“PYPS”) configurations. Optionally available
are duplex and triplex pumps/motors (even a quadplex in custom designs) with lead/lag
switching and sequencing. All models have common intake and output ports.
The control system receives fuel level signals from our standard remote float switch design. Or, you may optionally choose our Fuel Control and Monitoring (FCM) system.
Both control systems are housed in a NEMA-3R rated enclosure.
Depending upon your requirements, the pump set may be housed within an optional NEMA-1 or NEMA-3R rated enclosure (see the ENCLOSURES section below).

RECOMMENDED OPTIONS
RECOMMENDED OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
The following optional equipment is recommended for most fuel systems with pump(s) and motor(s):
360 - SOLENOID VALVE — A normally closed solenoid valve that is installed on the pump intake to
prevent tank flooding if the main storage tank is position above the day tank intake level; or, to prevent
siphoning (backflow) if the main storage tank is located below the day tank inlet. It is automatically
opened when the pump motor turns on.
315 - FUEL STRAINER — A 1" strainer intended for in-line installation to prevent debris from entering
system. Includes a 60-Mesh replaceable cartridge.
399 - REVERSE FLOW CONTROL— A package that includes the plumbing, float switches, and other
control devices and wiring necessary to return fuel to the main storage tank. Pump and motor are not
included; however, we recommend a pump/motor combination that is at least one size larger that the
supply pump/motor set.
210 - HIGH/LOW COMBINATION FUEL LEVEL ALARM — Dual separate float switches that activates
a red light on control panel when the fuel rises to a pre-determined level (normally 102% capacity), and
a different red light when the fuel falls to a pre-determined level (normally 75% capacity).
206 - CRITICAL LOW FUEL ALARM w/ENGINE SHUT DOWN — A separate float switch (normally
set at 5% fuel level) that activates a red light on the control panel. It also activates a double pole relay
that closes normally open contacts for 3 amp remote alarm annunication, and opens a normally closed
contacts that will shut down the generator engine thus preventing loss of engine fuel prime.
213 - CRITICAL HIGH FUEL PUMP/MOTOR SHUT DOWN — A separate float switch that shuts off
the pump motor when fuel rises to a 103% level. Also, a "Critical High" red light on the control panel is
activated; a remote annunciation relay is closed and dry contacts are activated. And a "normally open"
solenoid valve is closed to prevent further fuel from entering the tank.
385 - 150% RUPTURE BASIN — A U/L Listed (Label 142, File #MH12807), open-top dike, secondary
containment used as insurance against day tank leak or rupture. Also recommended is a 395 - RUPTURE LEAK DETECTOR installed within a rupture basin that shuts down the pump motor; activates a
"rupture detected" red light on the control panel; and, activates dry contacts for remote signal (15 amp).
DW – DOUBLE WALL CONSTRUCTION — a totally enclosed outer shell , or the outer tank, independent of the inner day tank fuel storage area. Both the inner and outer tanks are vented separately
and are pressure tested as described above. The outer tank has a provision for leak detection, venting,
and a drain. The inner tank overflow port and drain are piped through the outer tank. The 395 Leak
Detector (above) is used to monitor inner tank leakage.
321 - PRESSURE RELIEF VENT CAP — A pressure relief vent cap.

Description
REMOTE PUMPING UNIT (RPU) — A Weatherproof (NEMA 3R) base and enclosure used
to re-locate the pumping system (up tyo and including duplexed 23-gpm pumps) from a day
tank to a point between the day tank and the main storage tank to extend the distance from
a main storage tank. Another application for an RPU is in a Remote Fill Panel configuration.
397
The SINGLE Pumping System includes a 1/3 HP, 115 VAC, 1-Phase, 60 Hz motor and a 2
GPM bronze pump (standard pump and motor) that normally would be located on the day
tank top. The DUPLEX Pumping System includes two standard pumps and motors. Each
pump of a multi-pump system may be assigned either supply or return duty or mixed. Optionally, pumps and motors other than the standard configurations described above may be
specified as replacements of the standard ones.
Optional check and solenoid valves, if attached to fuel inlet, may also be located on the RPU
platform. Note — a Pump Set must be specified if (1) the size of the largest pump exceeds
the dimensios of a 23 gpm pump, (2) plumbing is greater than that which can be easily contained within the cover, oe (3) one or more other accessories, such as: fuel filter, strainers,
flow switches and meters, gauges, isolation and by-pass valves, etc. are to be included.

FCM & OPTIONS
FUEL CONTROL MONITORING (FCM) SYSTEM
The FUEL CONTROL and MONITORING (FCM) system, is totally
solid state electronic except for a fail-safe critical high fuel level switch.
The FCM system uses an ultra-sonic sensor to accurately determine
the level of the fuel. It is specially designed for Pryco for this type of
environment.
Through electronic “action levels” the FCM controls the activities of up
to four pumps and motors (Fill or Reverse Flow). It also controls and
provides a signal for a full array of external alarms and similar devices
based upon predetermined levels. The action levels shown in the table
below represent a “normal” setup — changes may be made providing
the integrity of a sequence of operation is not violated.

REMOTE PUMPING UNIT
Option #397-12A
Single Remote Pumping Unit
(with Standard Pump & Motor)
The purpose of a Remote Pumping Unit is to relocate the pump/motor away from the day tank or
sub-base tank for several reasons, including:

Distance between main storage tank and the day/sub-base tank. The suction of all pumps
is limited to 18’ of vertical lift or 200’ of horizontal run.

Discharge Pressure - Up to 100 psi for all pumps; and,

Convenience - fuel supply or return pump/motor(s), in any configuration or size, may be
relocated to a Remote Pumping Unit.
The remote unit frames are constructed of heavy gauge steel with a removable cover for a
NEMA 3R enclosure rating.
The standard “single” unit, Option #397-12A, is equipped with our standard pump and motor (a
2GPM bronze pump and a 1/3HP, 115VAC, 1PH, 60HZ, thermal protected motor). The
standard “duplex” unit, Option #397-12B, has a second pump/motor set. (Large, customdesigned remote units can be built to your specifications.)
Mechanical drawings of Remote Pumping Units are on the following pages.

DUPLEX PUMPING SYSTEM
Pryco’s Duplex Alternating Fuel System (option 427A) is one of our most
popular features that we incorporate into
a fuel supply system. It solves the problems of a keeping up with fuel consumption by providing a redundant back
-up system, and reducing wear and tear
on pumps and motors by cycling roles
between the two.
LEAD/LAG CONCEPT
The first time power is applied to the
overall system, an alternating switch
will place one of the pumps (we’ll refer
A 427A Duplex Pumping System That Is Remote
to it as physical pump #1) into the priPumping Unit Mounted
mary or “LEAD” position. (Physical
pump #2 is assigned secondary or “LAG” position). The next time fuel is required, physical pump #2 is switched up into lead position and physical pump #1 falls to secondary duty.
These two physical pumps will alternate in and out of lead/lag positions each time fuel controls call for fuel to be pumped into the tank.
KEEPING UP WITH FUEL CONSUMPTION
Normally, both pumping systems are singularly sized to the demands of the consuming unit
(generator, boiler, etc.). If for some reason the consuming unit requires more fuel than the
LEAD pump can supply, the LAG pumping system would switch on to assist the LEAD
pump until the fuel level reaches a 100% useable fuel capacity level, at which time, both
LEAD and LAG pumps are turned off. The normal “ON” fuel level for the LEAD pump is
86% and the level where the assisting LAG
pump kicks in is 82% useable fuel capacity.
PUMP/MOTOR VARIETY & APPLICATION
We can use almost any variety of pump flow
rates or motor voltages with the option 427A.
It can even be configured on
reverse flow systems, Remote Pumping Units or virtually whatever can be imagined.

CIRCUIT BREAKERS
Most circuit breakers are mounted within a side
mounted enclosure with a NEMA rating to match
your requirements.
They are used to break power to the overall fuel
system, pump motors, and other special circuits
such as oil coolers.

ENCLOSED INDUSTRIAL
CONTROL PANEL
Pryco’s OPTION # 465 — ENCLOSED INDUSTRIAL CONTROL PANEL is U/L Listed (Label # 508).
We start with a heavy gauge steel enclosure that
meets U/L requirements. Then we ensure only U/L
Listed components are used within. These components the make up various day tank accessories
include: contactors, relays, sockets, lights, and
switches — even the wire and connectors.
The unique U/L File Number specifically assigned
to Pryco is E1023272.

Pryco has four standard sizes of battery frames and two different designs. The first is our
“standard” design that will accomodate most applications. The second, our “seismic” design,
has a top hold-down frame with heavy duty rods bolted up from the bottom frame. The sizes
are shown in accompaning table.
Also, we can custom build sizes and configurations to meet your specifications.
The standard battery frames are 4” high and the seismic units are 12.25” high. Both are
constructed of formed 7-gauge steel. They are painted black or an industrial color of choice.
Mechanical drawings of both Battery Frame designs are on the following pages.

EVOLUTION PLC
EVOLUTION PLC FUEL SYSTEM CONTROLLER
OPTION 800
The EVOLUTION is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based system designed to control
and monitor the activities of up to four pumps and motors of a Pryco fuel supply system. A color touch screen displays system functional status, alarm conditions, and historical logs. The
Evolution PLC provides operational control of the overall fuel system.
An ultra-sonic sensor accurately determines the level of the fuel in the tank. Electronic “action
levels” settings control the activities of pumps and motors (supply and reverse flow), and initiate signals for a full compliment of alarm conditions activating a common external alarm, light,
or similar device.
Using licensed software, WindSRV ä, it possible to link your OPC (object linking of devices for
process control) or DDE (older version of OPC) compliant Windows ä - based software to any
IDEC programmable logic controller. This link may use an optional built-in RS232 or RS485
serial interface adapters, or longer range Ethernet networking.
That means any industrial HMI*, SCADA, general data acquisition, MES, or ERP will connect
through WindSRV to Evolution system. All you have to do is install the server software on your
PC running Windows, and you have a low-cost data acquisition and monitoring system using
your own computer and the Evolution PLC.
The basic PLC portion of the Evolution system is made up of a power supply module, an ultrasonic sensor mentioned above, and a logic controller that controls and processes incoming
data and initiates pump motor activities and alarms as necessary. A graphical, color LCD
Touch-Screen provides an Operator Interface Terminal.
Depending upon the requirements of the fuel system design, an optional communications module and/or an optional (additional) I/O module may be added.
The Evolution system is U/L Listed.

FCM STANDARD FEATURES
THE INTERFACE BOARD
The Interface Board is where external devices, such as pump motors, heaters, alarms, etc.,
are connected. Features of this board are:
•
•
•
•
•
•
connectors for incoming 120vac power,
a connector to supply 24vdc main, auxiliary or back up power for the FCM
system only. (This 24vdc power is also supplied to a modem, if installed, to keep
the FCM “on line”.)
a Normally Open (N.O.) relay for each pump motor. The “ON/OFF” setting of this
relay is controlled by the FCM Firmware (a computer program that “talks” directly
to the FCM hardware).
a N.O. relay to control operations of an optional heater,
a set of “dry contact” connectors for the following:
• remote annunciation of abnormal level detection. These six-position
connectors are a direct extension of a relay that FCM activates (both
N.O. and N.C.) when the following levels have been read by the UltraSonic Sensor or from external switches: High Fuel level, Low Fuel level,
Critical Low level, Critical High level, and secondary containment leak
detector.
• Pump Fail (no fuel detected in the fuel line) and control. These
connectors/relays are similar to the preceding N.O. and N.C. remote
annunciation except FCM activates the relay based upon input from a
flow switch. There are two additional terminals on each connector that
receives the input.
other supporting electronic parts and components.
NOTE – Being Dry Contacts, external power must be supplied for any remote alarms and
lights.
ULTRA-SONIC SENSOR 4-20ma
This device emits a signal downwards into a tube extending the depth of the tank. When
the signal encounters an object (the fuel), it bounces back to the emitting device that has a
built-in receiver. The elapsed time between emission of the signal and its return is
converted into an electrical voltage, which in turn, is changed to inches of air space from tip
of emitter to fuel level.
Important to note - nothing (inductance probe, or such) touches the fuel. Hence, there are
no erratic and low voltage level readings caused by gum-up or other undesirable
phenomenon which are inherent to similar out-dated systems. Periodic cleaning and readjustment of probes and the system is not necessary.

PRYCO, INC.
ELECTRONIC FUEL LEVEL GAUGE
This gauge is an electronic measurement of the fuel level. It features a set of eight LED’s to
report the usable fuel in the tank. The 100% or FULL level is normally set to the Fill Pump
shut off level (not the top of the tank); the EMPTY level of the gauge is normally set to the
bottom of the tank. Each lighted LED represents fuel present at a linear determination of
about 1/8 of the calculated usable span.
24vdc ALTERNATE/AUXILIARY POWER INPUT
120vac is the normal voltage for the FCM; however, there are some cases where it is not
available or it may be desirable to use “battery” power. At startup time, if 120vac power is
not available, FCM automatically switches to 24vdc as an alternate voltage for its internal
power.
If 120vac power is interrupted for whatever reason and a 24vdc auxiliary power, such as a
battery, is connected to the FCM, it will automatically switch to its alternate power input and
normal operations continue.
POWER AVAILABLE LED
This green LED is used to report that power is on and the FCM is energized. It does not
imply the FCM is functioning properly (FCM system performance is reported by the System
Ready LED).
SYSTEM READY LED
This slow flashing yellow LED reports the status of the overall FCM system. When the
system is powered on, the above POWER AVAILABLE LED is turned on and the system
undergoes a “Power On Self Test” (POST). All features and options are checked internally
for reasonableness to ensure they are operational and within tolerances. If all POST
checks are completed successfully, the SYSTEM READY LED is turn on and the FCM is
then operational.
HOA SWITCH
This is actually a series of three switches per pump motor that function as an HOA switch in
an OFF, ON and AUTO position. In an ON position, FCM surrenders control of the pump
motor except actions at the specified control points -- Critical High, High Fuel, Low Fuel,
and the Critical Low fuel levels. In the AUTO position, the FCM automatically controls the
activities of the motors based upon fuel level readings and control points.

FCM Detail Specifications
SYSTEM TEST SWITCH
This feature is used for a visual test of the LED’s only. When pressed, all LED’s on the
control panel are lighted and should be illuminated. It does not test any monitor/control
functions of the FCM.
ALARM TEST SWITCH
This feature actually tests the controls and relays associated with the four alarm levels
(Critical High, High Fuel, Low Fuel and Critical Low), and the four pump fail functions. It is
also a local visual test that will notify the operator of any error.
ALARM RESET SWITCH
This optional switch, located on the control panel, is used to turn off a visual alarm that had
reported an abnormal condition that was corrected.
When an abnormal condition exists, it is reported by changing the appropriate LED to a
flashing ON state and sounds a horn, if installed. The LED continues to flash until the
condition is corrected. Then:
•
if this option is not active, the LED is turned off automatically when the
condition is corrected.
•
if this option is active, “Alarm Latching” is also active. Alarm Latching changes
the flashing LED to a solidly lit LED when the condition is satisfied. This
provides an historical account that an abnormal condition did occur. The solid
LED remains lit until this optional switch is pressed.
ALARM SLIENCE SWITCH
This optional switch, also located on the control panel, is used to turn off an installed alarm
horn that is sounding as an abnormal condition exists. (The horn will shut off automatically
when the condition is corrected.) This is welcome relief to workers who are correcting the
problem.

SAFETY HIGH FEATURE
This standard feature is always installed. It acts as a mechanical fail-safe to prevent
flooding should an electronic fault occur preventing the Fill Pumps/Motors from shutting off
at the specified level.
The Safety High Level is always set to 3.0” down from the top of the tank. It will always
shut off all Fill Pump/Motors (internally controlled by FCM).
Two sets of Dry Contacts are provided, (1 - N.O. and 1 - N.C.). If the day tank is supplied
by a gravity-feed main tank, this is a good place to receive a signal to close a normally open
solenoid valve in the intake line. The customer must supply external power for any remote
alarms/lights.
HIGH FUEL FEATURE
This standard feature is always installed. In its basic setup, when the fuel reaches a
specified “high” level, it will turn on a High Fuel Light/Alarm. Optionally, as a safety feature,
FCM can be programmed with a “Shut Fill Pump(s) Down” feature.
The High Fuel Level is normally set to 3.5” down from the top of the tank.
Additionally, two sets of Dry Contacts are provided, (1 - N.O. and 1 - N.C.). The customer
must supply external power for any remote alarms/lights.
LOW FUEL FEATURE
This standard feature is always installed. When the fuel reaches a specified “low” level, it
will turn on a light on the control panel and will shut off any installed Reverse-Flow Pumps/
Motors.
Low Fuel Level is normally set at predetermined distance from the top of the tank. These
settings are:
Py5 & PY10 GGG.. 7.0”
Py15 GGG.GGG. 12.0”
Py25 - PY150 G..... 14.0”
Py200 - PY1000 G.. 18.0”
Two sets of Dry Contacts are provided, (1 - N.O. and 1 - N.C.). The customer must supply
external power for any remote alarms/lights.

“DRY TANK” PREVENTION
This feature is to prevent the emptying of the tank due to reverse flow pump-out. If the
customer did not purchase a Critical Low option, this feature is installed for fail-safe
protection. Unlike a Critical Low, it does not support generator engine shut down or remote
annunciation. It activation point is 3.5” from the bottom of the tank.
SECONDARY CONTAINMENT SWITCH
This is a standard feature that is activated when secondary containment is purchased. It
will light an LED on the control panel and activate an alarm.
Additionally, two sets of Dry Contacts are provided (1 - N.O. and 1 - N.C.) for remote
annunciation. The customer must supply external power for any remote alarms/lights.
FCM OPTIONAL FEATURES
DUPLEX SUPPLY PUMP
An additional fill pump and motor of any size and voltage may be installed on the day tank,
subbase or on a remote pumping unit and controlled by FCM. This second pump/motor is
referred to as Pump #2 on the FCM control panel and by software. FCM will control it
regardless where it may be mounted.
Pump #2 has its own set of “HOA” switches as well as a “turn ON” level, pump running
LED, and a pump fail LED/reset switch. It will however, turn OFF at the same level as
Pump #1 (the Standard Fill Pump/Motor).
Pump #2, in its basic setup, is always in a “lag” position, i.e., it will only turn ON when the
fuel level has dropped past a point where it has been determined that Pump #1 cannot
keep up with the draw-down of the generator. The Alternation of Duplex Pumps option
explained below will override this permanent “lag” assignment.
If Alternation of Duplex Pumps option is not installed, Pump #1 is always referred to as the
Primary Fill Pump and Pump #2 is the Secondary Fill Pump.
P. O. Box 108, Mechanicsburg, IL 62545
Page 7
FCM Detail Specifications
PRYCO, INC.
REVERSE FLOW PUMP(s) - SINGLE or DUPLEX
As a safety feature, the fuel supply system can be optionally configured with a sub-system
that will pump the fuel in the day tank or subbase to another container – normally back to
the main supply tank. This operation is referred to as “reverse flow”. It can be configured
as either a single pump/motor or as a duplex.
The single pump/motor of a reverse flow (or the first of a duplex setup) is always referred to
as Pump #3. If the configuration is a duplex reverse flow, the second is Pump #4.
Both reverse flow pumps have their own set of “HOA” switches, “turn ON” levels, pump
running LEDS, and a pump fail LEDS and reset switches. And both share a common “turn
OFF” level.
Pump #4, in its basic setup, is always in a “lag” position, i.e., it will only turn on when the
fuel level has risen past a point where it has been predetermined that Pump #3 cannot keep
up with the filling of the tank. The Alternation of Duplex Pumps option explained below will
override this permanent “lag” assignment.
If Alternation of Duplex Pumps option is not installed, Pump #3 is always referred to as the
Primary Reverse Pump and Pump #4 is the Secondary Reverse Pump.
When a reverse flow pump is turned ON, the fill pump(s) will automatically be turned OFF in
case either has caused the problem.
The voltage, size, type of current, etc. of reverse flow pump(s) and motor(s) are not required
to match those of the fill pump(s) and motor(s).
ALTERNATION of DUPLEX PUMPS
If the fuel supply system has been designed correctly and the “lead” pumps/motors (Pumps
#1 & #3) have been sized to match the demands of the generator, and no unusual condition
or problem arises, it is conceivable that the “lag” pumps/motors (Pumps #2 & #4) will never
or very seldom see action. This “alternation” option switches the lead/lag assignment of
each class (Fill or Reverse Flow) of pump/motor in an attempt to equalize the run time.
When a pump motor (Fill or Reverse) is cycled into lead position, it is assumes the title as
the Primary, whereas, the lag pump/motor is the Secondary. This does not change the
fact that the secondary pump will back up the primary at a predetermined level.

FCM Detail Specifications
PUMP FAILURE w/MANUAL and AUTOMATIC RESET
This option works in conjunction with an optional Flow Switch to report a “no fuel present”
condition in the fuel line from the main storage tank. Without this option, there is a
possibility of the pump losing its prime or running dry (which will eventually cause pump
damage).
When a pump/motor starts, there is a approximate 10 second delay to give the line time to
get charged with fuel, if not already filled. After this delay, the FCM will initiate failure
testing based upon a possible signal from the flow switch. If a “no fuel in line” condition is
received, the FCM enters another approximate 10-second delay to validate the condition.
After the second delay and “no fuel” condition still exists, the FCM determines that a failure
has occurred and takes the following actions:
•
•
•
•
shuts off pump/motor
lights the appropriate LED (solid)
sounds a horn, if installed.
makes note of the “failed” pump intended action, i.e., the position of the HOA switch,
“ON” or “AUTO”
If the FCM is programmed to restart manually, it will wait for the operator to press the Reset
switch to repeat the start-up process.
Optionally (no charge), it is possible to allow the FCM to attempt to restart the pump/motor
automatically (after the 10 + 10 delay when the motor was shut off). If the option is set to
Auto-Restart and a specified time (1 to 240 minutes) has elapsed, the FCM will attempt the
restart. This attempt to restart will continue indefinitely until the condition is corrected.
Manual override is permitted during Auto-Restart.
CRITICAL LOW OPTION
This option is to prevent the emptying of the tank due to abnormal engine draw-down or
reverse flow. It turns on an alarm condition and when wired to the ignition switch of the
generator engine, will shut it off to prevent loss of prime and possible damage.
The Critical Low level is normally set to 3.5” up from the bottom of the tank.
Two sets of Dry Contacts are provided, (1 - N.O. and 1 - N.C.) to connect external alarm
devices (N.O.) and to turn off the power to the engine ignition. The customer must supply
external power for any remote alarms/lights.

EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS
INTERFACE BOARD LAYOUT
The FCM Interface Board (graphically shown on page 15) is where connection(s) are made
for all external inputs and outputs. Located on the left side of the board is a group of seven
larger relays (referred to herein as the “30-amp relays”). These provide terminals connecting
the incoming 120vac power for the FCM, and for the output of pump motors and an optional
120vac heater.
There are smaller 5-amp relays (not shown) positioned around the remaining perimeter of
the board. Associated with these relays are six and eight pin connectors. Both types of
connectors have two sets of N.O. terminals for “dry contact” remote annunciation and two
sets of N.C. for external actions, such as engine shut down. The rightmost terminals of the
eight-position connectors are input from optional Fuel Flow Switches or from the Critical
High and Rupture float switches.
Finally, there are two other connectors: 1) two-position for 24vdc battery power for FCM
system operational backup; and, 2) three-position for a N.O. or N.C. external Common
Alarm connection.

POWER SUPPLY (FCM) PROTECTION
The FCM system, like other electronic equipment, requires protection from a power outage
caused by whatever. Pryco recommends the power for the operation of the FCM be
conditioned and protected from damaging noise, spikes and other harmful influences. Such
protection, normally referred to as a “UPS”, should have provision for battery backup.
Pryco option #780 or a UPS from a computer store (not a simple surge arrestor/suppressor)
will provide the protection from most problems.
If your overall power system has an in-line UPS, connection of the FCM here will suffice

ULTRA-SONIC SENSOR 4-20ma
This device emits a signal at a narrow beam angle
downwards into a tube extending the depth of the tank.
When the signal encounters an object (the fuel), it bounces
back to the emitting device that has a built-in receiver. The
elapsed time between emission of the signal and its return is
converted into an electrical voltage, which then is changed
to inches of air space from tip of emitter to fuel level.
Important to note - nothing (inductance probe, or such)
touches the fuel. Hence, there are no erratic and low
voltage level readings caused by gum-up or other
undesirable phenomenon which are inherent to similar outdated systems. Periodic cleaning and re-adjustment of
probes and the system is not necessary.
LOGIC CONTROLLER—CPU
This rugged, compact module is “brains” of the Evolution system.
Logic procedures direct various action to be initiated based upon
input from the Ultra-Sonic level sensor or external sensing switches. This module formats and directs the display of the variable content of the LCD screen pages and to the Communications Module
(below) as actions and conditions occur.
A standard RS232C port is built into every CPU controller module.
This port is rated for a maximum of 50 ft. and is dependant on cabling, electrical noise, etc. The distance can be expanded to 656
feet by specifying RS485 communications.
Modbus protocol is standard. This link may use either built-in
RS232 or optional RS485 serial interface adapters, or longer range
Ethernet networking.
If you need to expand the distance, additional ports, or a different protocol, you may add a
Communications expansion Modules (described in the Optional equipment of this brochure).
