fter pushing the boat out with two successful medical
missions since the start of 2015, Solstad Offshore
Crewing Services Philippines Inc., (SOCSPH) still has more
than enough fuel left in their tank to even more participate
and reach out to its chosen communities.
For the past few months, SOCSPH, with the help
of the Philippine Naval Forces Reserve Group, has
provided various types of vaccines and medicines
for the impoverished children and families
particularly in Valenzuela and Baseco
Compound.
This time, the small village of
Langgam in San Pedro, Laguna
Prostate Check up
was lucky enough to receive the
support from SOCSPH and
the Navy.
The medical mission
took
place
at
Langgam’s Brgy. Hall
last May 23,
2015.

the
117th
Anniversary of the
Philippine Navy.
Like the previous
activities,
SOCSPH’s
President Chief Engineer
Rolando Adorable and SOCSPH’s
Admin and Seafarer’s Family Affairs
Manager, Ms. Blesila Salva was there
to take part.
Also joined the activity were NRCenNCR
PN(M)(GSC) Commander, Col. Teodor Briones
and NFRNCR PN(GSC)(RES) Commander, Capt.
Ramolito Guinomma.
“Sa pamamagitan ng aming pagseserbisyo sana po
ay maramdaman ninyo ang aming pagmamahal sa inyo
ngayong ika-117th anibersaryo namin.”
“I hope that we will be able to let you feel our love and
concern for your community through this activity in time
with our 117th anniversary,” stressed Briones in front of
the crowd as they wait for their turns to be attended by
the volunteer doctors regarding their different medical
concerns and conditions.
The lovely wives of the seafarers, the so-called, Solstad
Ladies Club (SLC) were also there to reach out and render
service to the needy without asking anything in return.
“Malaki ang aming pasasalamat na dito napili ng
Solstad at ng Philippine Navy na gawin ang ganitong
klaseng activity sa ikalawang pagkakataon. Hinding hindi
namin makakalimutan ito.”
“We are very thankful that Solstad and members of
the Philippine Navy have chosen our community as to
where to conduct this kind of activity for the second time.
We will never forget this,” says Brgy. Langgam Chairman,
Romeo B. Payaoan.
Previously, Solstad has been able to push through a
feeding program held at the elementary school of Brgy.
Langgam.
Unlike the wellness and medical kits which were
distributed in Padre Blanco Garden in Intramuros,
Manila last May 16, 2015, what happened in Laguna was
different.
It was a full medical mission comprised of “Operation
Tuli” (circumcision), deworming, dental check-up, general
check-up, blood sugar testing, ECG, prostate screening for
the men aged 40 and above, and the distribution of free
medicines and vitamins.
In her opening remarks, Salva stressed the important
role of Solstad Offshore in Norway on why the event
materialized.
“Biniyayaan po tayo ng pondo para makagawa tayo ng
medical mission galing sa principal namin sa Norway.”
“We were given enough funds from our principal in
Norway to proceed with the medical mission.”
As soon as the opening ceremony ended, people along
the waiting lines started to pile-up.
Different expressions, anxiousness and excitement can
be traced among the children’s faces in the waiting line for
the “Operation Tuli”.
Parents brought their children and patiently waited for
their turn at the deworming section as they see this kind
of rare opportunity and certainly nobody wants to let it
pass.
The members of the Solstad Ladies Club were too busy
aiding the community barely having a lunch break just to
accommodate all the patients.
Clearly, not just the staff and the seafarers but also
their families are living up to the core values instilled by
the company.
Children cried at the dental check-up section but
smiles are painted on the faces of their parents whom
were relieved and can say that finally, their children were
able to undergo a dental check-up which many of them
if not all were deprived from before Solstad came to the
rescue.
On the other hand, the medical mission’s prostate
screening / prostate testing was mobbed by fathers and
grandfathers aged 40 and up.
They are happy because a lot of them according to
some patients never had the chance to go to a hospital
and undergo a prostate screening.
The general check-up was where the waiting line really
got long and it was definitely a success for both sides.
Still in cooperation with the Navy, SOCSPH is set to
conduct the final leg of its medical missions for the year
2015 in Valenzuela.
Although 2 years has passed since it started crewing in
the country, SOCSPH is already known for its reputation
of always extending aid with 101% effort to serve and
provide for the needy.
By the time SOCSPH turns 20 or 30 years, imagine
how many lives it could improve or even save through its
efforts which most of the time serve as a wake-up call for
some to bring back the Bayanihan spirit. n
