This Resource Guide has been created by the Sacramento Area Sustainable Business
Program and Sacramento County’s Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC)
as a companion to the Sustainable Business Program checklists and is designed to
help businesses find the resources necessary to make environmentally-friendly
changes in their operations. The Sustainable Business Program encourages changes
in business practices that not only reduce impacts to our environment and public
health, but can save businesses money in operating expenses.
This Guide is helpful for any business interested in lessening their impact on the
environment through changes to their business practices. The resources listed on the
following pages are grouped into five categories: energy conservation, pollution
prevention, solid waste reduction, water conservation, and green building. Contacts for
vendors and sources of information, equipment, supplies, and services are provided for
your convenience only. The Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Program and/or
BERC does not endorse any of the listed products or services, or attempt to verify the
accuracy of information provided by these contacts. An effort was made while
compiling this information to provide both local and national sources of assistance.
For more information on the program, please see the Sustainable Business Program’s
website SacramentoAreaSustainableBusiness.org or call (916) 874-2100.

Toilets with 1.6 gallon per flush are available at any hardware or
bath & kitchen store. You can check to see if your current toilet is
1.6 gallons per flush by inspecting it. The toilet should have 1.6
printed on the inside of the tank top or on the bridge between the
seat and the tank. If your existing toilet was installed pre-1994, you
may qualify for a rebate if you replace it with an ultra-low-flush
model.
Contact your water company for more rebate information.
Specify that you are looking for a 1 gallon per minute diaphragm for urinals.

The Carl Moyer Grant Program
helps fund the incremental cost of
cleaner-than-required heavy-duty
engines. Agricultural equipment,
agricultural pump engines, and
construction equipment may be
eligible.
SECAT is a partnership between
the SMAQMD and the
Sacramento Area Council of
Governments (SACOG). The
Program provides grant funds to
replace on-road heavy-duty
diesel vehicles that have 2002 or
older engines with cleaner
emission vehicles. The goal of
the SECAT Program is to reduce
the harmful surplus emissions
from on-road heavy-duty
vehicles.
Mow Down promotes the use of
electric lawnmowers, which
benefits regional air quality.
Participants can trade in old
gasoline mowers for new,
reduced-price, cordless mowers.
SMAQMD has funding to help
Sacramento County residents
replace older, more polluting units
with cleaner-burning, EPA
certified or equivalent units.
Sacramento Metropolitan, El
Dorado, Feather River, Placer,
and Yolo-Solano Air disgricts
bring you air quality information
for the Sacramento Region
The Sacramento Regional Transit
District (RT) operates 64 bus
routes and 37.5 miles of light rail
covering a 418 square-mile
service area.
Share a ride everyday or once in
a while. Ridesharing (e.g. car
pool or van pool) is a commute
alternative to driving alone. These
commute options can save you
money and time, as well as be
healthier for you and our
community.

Transportation Management Agencies (TMAs) and Rideshare Agencies:
Additional resources for ridesharing information are Transportation Management Associations
(TMAs). TMAs enable employers in a defined geographic area to work together to solve local
transportation needs. A TMA is a dues-paying membership group that consists of employers,
developers, property managers, and local government officials.
