Have you signed up for the Chili Cook Off? If so,
tonight’s the night! The chili contest is on! Chilies are to arrive at 6:oopm;
the fun starts at 6:30pm and includes a Chili contest, games, hayrides, etc.
Bring a side dish, lawn chairs & blankets.
“Some Say…”
Our K-2 grades had such a great time in chapel! Miss
Danko taught our students a new song entitled, “Jesus
Loves Me”. They loved it!
Pastor Mike shared an awesome message from God’s
Word…Matthew 16:13 “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he
asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?” “Well”, they replied, some say
Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then he asked them,
“But who do You say I am?” What a powerful question! Pastor Mike shared how
important it is for us to know Jesus personally. We can’t rely on what “some say”
but we need to know Jesus for ourselves.
Join the group for dinner on Tuesday, October 7th, as GCA families
come to eat, visit, and support the
school! Families must DESIGNATE
GCA AT THE COUNTER. Students
still need to check in and the class
with the greatest percentage present
earns ice cream for Friday lunch.
He also shared that we are the “light” of the world. He told us about a time when he
visited one of the darkest caves in the world. Even though it was so dark just turning
on a very small light made the darkness flee! He shared that sin is like that scary,
dark cave; but when we have Jesus in our hearts we are the light of the
world. Shine On!
On School Spirit Days, students
may wear their GCA T-Shirts to
school, and can also wear non-dress
code bottoms (jeans, modest shorts,
and modest skirts).
Grandparents’ Day: Wednesday, October 29
8:30am - 12:00 noon
This Year’s Theme: “It’s Great to be Me”
What a fun day it will be! We are planning the morning for Grandparents’ Day, and everyone will
enjoy it even if grandparents cannot attend. Please send in your RSVP as soon as possible so
we can plan accordingly.
Please note too that this year Grandparents’ Day is an early release day. With parent authorization, students may be dismissed with their grandparents on this day.
Help is needed to make this day a pleasure for all. Please contact Renee Richardson if you are
able to help on the day of the event or if you can send in food items: rcdelta@aol.com.

It’s wonderful to see volunteers helping throughout the school. Just this week planning meetings for Grandparents’ Day began, final details were worked out for the Chili Cook Off, school pictures were organized, Great
American “Critters” were distributed and Spirit Night volunteers confirmed. Please take a minute to thank these
folks for their dedication, loyalty, enthusiasm and commitment to GCA:
Grandparents Day Volunteers: Renee Richardson, Event Chair; Kira Routh, Food Chair
Chili Cook Off Volunteers: Ari and Paul Sprenkle, Event Chairs
School Picture Days Volunteer: Gina Garzón
Great American Fundraising Volunteers: Becky Angelilli, Event Chair; Heidi Sears
Spirit Night Volunteers: Joy Wagner, Karley Pond, Aimee Wheeling
To get involved in one of these activities, ask them how you can help.

An immediate opportunity to help Monday afternoon as
The Royal Knights host the cross country meet
Contact Coach Dillon immediately. The meet begins at 4:00pm; volunteers need to be in the front at 3:40pm.
Remember, it’s up to ALL of us.
Reminders About the Fall Parties
The fall parties for K-5 will be held on Friday, October 31, at 2:00pm. This is the
same day that the students and teachers dress up in friendly costumes. Once
again, please stay away from costumes which people may associate with dark, evil,
unfriendly, or scary topics (i.e. witches, ghosts, blood). Too short skits on young ladies is con
considered in good taste. With so many choices around us, it is easy to select from the positive.
Our next Clothes Swap will be
Tuesday, October 21st, from 2:45
- 4:15 pm.
Clothes may be brought in now
until the morning of October 20th.
Room mothers and teachers are coordinating food and fun for the party. Mothers, please make
outside arrangements for younger siblings so you can give your full attention to the members of
the class and their activities.
If the Swap is new to you, please
see Ms. Dee for additional information and Clothes Swap tickets.
“Trunk or Treat”, the Fall Festival here at Southside, will also be held Friday evening, October 31,
from 6:30-8:30 pm. This is fun for the whole family!
Questions? Contact Amanda
Spencer at (804) 248-2700.
Time to show and share some spirit . . .
GCA students showed their school spirit and generosity during
our first pep rally of the new school year. Last Friday, students
were encouraged to wear school colors and to bring in an item
for our Christmas Box program. Points were earned for dressRoyal Knights Cross Country Team
ing up and bringing in the assigned item. These points were
calculated for each class and were used to help determine who won the coveted Spirit Sticks. All of this
lead up to our pep rally that afternoon. Our very own Royal Knight was there to lead a school-wide wave
and spirit competition. Thanks to Pastor Mike and Mrs. Darrington for serving as our battle cry judges.
The Fall sports teams were introduced. Coach Ford introduced the Cheer team, Coach O’Neil introduced
the Volleyball team, and Coach Dillon introduced the Cross Country team. A highlight of the pep rally-the girls and Coach O’Neil beat the boys and Coach Dillon in a friendly scooter race!! Last, our safety
patrol officers were recognized by Mrs. Diocedo. And the winners of the Spirit Sticks: K-2nd grade: Mrs.
Wall’s class; Grades 3-5: Mrs. Price’s class; Secondary Grades: High School classes
Congratulations !!

On Wednesday, September 24, both Kindergarten classes celebrated Johnny Appleseed.
Did you know Johnny wore a pan on his head for a hat?
Through art we created all of the different seasons of an
apple tree.
We also investigated what is inside an apple and how to
compare an apples’ weight to blocks by using a balance.
We ended our day by baking delicious mini apple pies with
cinnamon and brown sugar. They were amazing.
Mrs. Hunt & Mrs. Walls
In case you haven’t noticed… the “critters” are here! Thanks
to our volunteers who came to the classrooms to deliver bears
to all students who completed at least 2 orders on their Great
American order form. All students will have another chance
to collect more bears (1 bear for
every 2 items sold) on October
13th—the day orders are due.
We’re off to a good start. But we
can’t do this without your help.
This is the best time to shop for
those special people on your
Christmas list. The best part of
this fundraiser is that your family
and friends can also shop and
support our school wherever they live. They can buy items
from the catalogs by going to www.gaschoolstore.com and
using our school ID #3804606. Orders made by October 13th
will count towards prizes. Who will win the drawing for the
“Principal Taxi”?
Help us continue to raise funds to
keep tuition low and cover the costs
of laptops and software. Thank you.
Fellowship, food, and fun describe our second
grade Back To School Breakfast, held last Friday
morning.
Both second grade classes participated by opening the
divider so that all students could sit together and enjoy
visiting over some delicious food. Many parents came
and helped serve and
assist Mrs. Cromwell and
Miss Hale. It was a very
encouraging time to meet
and greet one another.
Many, many thanks to
parents who contributed
to making this breakfast a success!
Our next “Critter Day”
will be October 13th.
Book IT! began on Wednesday, October 1st.
Students brought home a letter about Book IT!
and a form their teacher is using. Each student records the books, minutes or pages he/she reads for the
month of October. On November 5 the October forms are due. Please turn in the form to the classroom
teacher.
Students who reach the goal attend an event each month. The events are a lot of fun. You don’t want to miss them! In
April, GCA students who read ALL six months will attend a special event. Start reading and record your info on the form!
A friendly reminder that the forms need to be signed by the parents. Thank you. Mrs. Knecht

throughout the school year. Once again the cheer team will
cheer for girls’ and boys’ basketball games, oversee Spirit
Week in January, run all pep rallies, perform in the Variety
Show and offer a GCA Cheer Camp in June. This year they
will add a competition season in November and December.
Competitions are scheduled for November 9th and December
6th, plan to come out and cheer them on!

. . . May this day be very special
Along with much prayer the administration was continuing to pursue leads and interview for the position of Music Instructor. Those prayers have been answered! Joining
us next week is Mrs. Ashley Taws! Mrs. Taws was born into a musical family, both vocal and instrumental. She has taught in Florida, been a member of a fulltime singing
group, directed a touring youth choir, and helped to establish a children’s community
choir for children ages 4 and up.
Mrs. Taws: Joining the Staff at
Guardian
Christian
Academy
In her own words - “My passion is not only for music, but also for the body of Christ.
Music is my talent, but I feel I must use it to point back to Christ and glorify God. I
also believe in equipping God’s children to discover their talents and use them to glorify God as well. I love to sing, teach, and work with children.”
We look forward to working with Mrs. Taws and to her working with our children!
