T.A.T.H.S TECHNICAL DAY: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9; at the Kelham Island Museum/Ken Hawley Collection Trust, Sheffield,
for members/associates of The Tools and Trades History, The Ken Hawley Collection Trust and Regional Furniture Society. The
meeting (10am – 4pm) will be focused upon the relationship between hand tools and furniture making. There will be the
opportunity to see and use traditional hand tools that have been and are used for the making of furniture and similar wooden
products. There will be a variety of activities during the day, to include displays, talks, and demonstrations by; Richard Arnold
– traditional woodworking hand tools; Dick Reid – Carving chisels; Joe Craven - 18th century moldings planes; Joseph Moore

Stanley Tool Collectors Exhibit - “Celebrating over 170 years of Excellence”
Dear Fellow Tool Collector,
My name is Preston Sweeney. I am coordinating a Stanley Tool Collectors Exhibit that will be hosted, in partnership, with the
Northeastern Woodworking Association Showcase. The event will be held on April 1st & 2nd, 2017 from 10am-5pm, at the
Saratoga Springs City Center located in Saratoga Springs, New York. The Northeastern Woodworking Showcase has been an
area attraction for the past 25 years. The show highlights beautiful displays of furniture, turnings, woodcrafts and vendors.
This year, one of the attractions will be a tribute to the Stanley Tool Company, highlighting over 170 years of excellence.
I am extending an invitation and asking you to consider displaying items from your collection that will showcase the Stanley
Tool Company over the past 170 years. If you are interested in participating in this event, please complete the registration
form and return it to me by December 10th. Email registrations will be accepted. Once I have a list of participants, I will b e
sending out an agenda and local hotel information for those who will need accommodations. If you have any questions please

IN AUCKLAND ONLY The New Zealand Vintage Tool Collectors Club meets 7.30 pm at Lynfield College, 191 White Swan Rd,
Mt Roskill, Auckland, on the last Thursday of each month. On a Bi Monthly basis Club meetings follow the general format of
“Tool of the Evening”, “The Competition Tool”, “What is it” “Latest acquisitions” (limited to 4 items as this can carry on a bit
especially with the members who cannot count.) The alternate month is a Hands On evening with practical demonstrations,
or auction (refer to the web site for current and past tool auction lots). At times there is a guest speaker or a member gives
15 minute background of themselves and their interests. Tool collecting visitors very welcome. Phone to advise and for

ANNOUNCEMENT: Your knowledge of old tools is needed! The UK Tools and Trades History Society is now publishing
"whatsits" on its revised website at www.taths.org.uk/tools-and-trades/queries where there are several mysterious old tools
resisting all attempts to identify them. Please have a look and add any information you can as a comment. Other parts of the

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Western New York Antique Tool Collectors Association meets four times a year at the Clarion Inn,
Batavia, New York, just off the New York State Thruway Batavia Exit. Meet dates are listed below in the Events Calendar. A
typical meeting would include tool trading at 9:00am, a short business meeting with a presentation starts at 10:30am. Come
and enjoy the trading, talking, coffee, and pastry. No charge for a trade table, but $5 meeting donation helps with room

HAMMER MUSEUM: In Haines, Alaska, on the Inside Passage, Director David Pahl opened the “Hammer Museum” in 2002.
With a 20 foot tall hammer in the front yard, this museum has 8,700 hammers (only 1,800 on display) and is not to be missed.
In addition, Dave has one of the largest catalogs of hammer patents. Dave welcomes all collectors to view his website, and

D’ELIA ANTIQUE TOOL MUSEUM: The D’Elia Antique Tool Museum is located in Scotland, Connecticut, and has on display
Andrew D’Elia’s Collection of Antique Woodworking Hand Planes. Andy’s extensive collection has many examples of patented
transitional planes from 1820 to 1940 featuring inventors such as Knowles, Holly, Loughborough, L. Bailey, Rodier, Worrall,
and many other rare inventors. All of the antique planes were acquired by Andrew D’Elia over the last 35 years. The collection
consists of rare Stanley, Sargent, Connecticut plane makers, and a number of Dutch and English planes. More information can
