The Center for Fur Design begun its University degree in 1996 and has grown stronger and stronger with the support of the fur farmers of the region, fur trade in Finland, professional and international visitors who have worked with us to construct this unique education. Beside own stuff The Center for Fur Design has a wide network of the guest lecturers from business life and from abroad. Mentor in the many workshops has been professor Basil Kardasis (Royal College of Art, London). Professor Kardasis has years of international experience in the world of fur, design and teaching. He, among his various activities, was Design Director of Saga Design centre in Denmark and is presently Creative Director of Studio NAFA in Canada. He is renowned for his passionate aims for excellence and creativity, while having fun with Fur –The Natural Fabric. 4 EU –PROJECTS FutureFURstudio The Center for Fur Design has carried out several project financed by the EU, provincial federations and municipalities. During the projects The Center for Fur Design has been developed into a know-how centre for fur education and development in the fur trade. The FutureFURstudio –project serves the whole fur trade and design field: companies, designers and students. The aim is also to encourage the use of fur in design products for example in furniture and also in totally new areas. In the project models of activities corresponding to the needs of the design companies will be developed, an open and innovative environment will be created and the design knowledge will be developed on international basis. The FutureFURstudio will create new networks between designers and manufactures. FutureFURstudio –project develops also different kind of education modules in English. www.centria.fi/futurefurstudio. 5 DESIGN The Center for Fur Design has done product development work for years with international designers and craftmen from different sectors. Product development work has been carried out through the creative workshops, where international groups work closely together as team. As a result there has been created several collections with different themes. Within the workshops The Center has done co-operation with different companies and organizations in Finland and abroad. The Center has done constant work for finding new people and new ways of using fur. Our belief is that the wonders of fur are endless and our aim is to maintain and broaden its use and its beauty and use it with respect. Fabulous Ostrobothnian fur and leather materials were used for creating innovative products for the interior of luxurious sailing boats. An international group of creative designers from various fields gathered in the SAIL AWAY workshop in Pietarsaari. Inspired by the sea, yachts and the introductory presentation by the workshop mentor, the talented team of designers planned products suitable for yachts. You will be guided throughout the programme by top expert, competent and passionate tutors, teachers and visiting professionals. Beside our own resident staff, the Center for Fur Design has a wide network of the guest lecturers from other universities, as well as the industry. Study visits to trade related companies such as an auction house, fur farms, dressing and tanning companies, as well as, fur manufactures are included in the programme. COMING SOON The tutor of the module is Manabu Kaminaga, designer/patternmaker (speciality draping), Japan/Denmark. Manabu Kaminaga is a talented designer, who is specialized in patternmaking and draping. He graduated 1988 from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. Kaminaga has worked as a patternmaker and done draping for several companies mostly in Denmark. Year 2009 he has started own business Kaminaga workshop company. He has also several year of experience from teaching pattern making and draping in different universities and academies worldwide. He has also worked as a course guidance/fur design for several design students at Saga Design center in Denmark. Moreover he has done project work for GLERUPS FILT.DK and researched new technique for felt fabric, making a shape of garment without using darts and finally made a felt collection. 34 Thank you for your attention!
