Senior Representatives from
both the Military and Industry
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to participate in
Future Armoured Vehicles Survivability 2015, taking place
from the 23rd to the 24th of November in London.
As an imperative asset within any land force, the armoured
vehicle is relied upon to provide mobility, fire support and
protection to personnel. However, as the operational
environment has proven time and time again, these assets
have proven vulnerable to an array of threats, such threats
are constantly adapting. It is therefore the aim of our forth
coming conference to meet these challenges head on,
providing a platform for leading armoured vehicle
operators, respected research institutions as well as cutting
edge industry to convene and develop proactive solutions.
I would ask you to pay particular attention to our
conference agenda, which has been put together with
great care to ensure the very best opportunities to bench
mark and learn from subject matter experts, dealing with
the technologies and operational doctrines at the heart of
the armoured vehicle.
Only through learning and networking with our peers can
we enhance and improve our ideas and execution of
military projects. I urge you to join us in November 2015,
alongside an array of likeminded individuals to ensure that
you too can benefit from this unique forum.

FUTURE ARMOURED VEHICLES SURVIVABILITY 2015: POST CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Countering IED Threats: Understanding the Operational Environment
and Developing Proactive Solutions
Hosted by: Mr Robert Shaw, C-IED Advisor, UNMAS, Department of Peacekeeping Operations, United Nations
9.00 - 12.30
Wednesday 25th November 2015, Holiday Inn Kensington Forum, London
Regardless of a noticeable drawdown in the direct use of land forces, the
IED still offers a potentially devastating threat to mechanised forces within
many strategically important regions. Led by an international leader in the
field, Countering IED Threats shall seek to draw on a wealth of operational
experience, identifying and understanding the threat as a starting point,
then proactively providing solutions through requirements for material
assets, advanced operational strategies and tactful training solutions.
Allowing ground forces to effectively plan for future operations where
forces may once again be exposed to the debilitating and lethal threat
of IEDs.
Topics covered will include:
• Lessons learned from Iraq and Afghanistan,
understanding the threat as a starting point
• How research and industry can develop
technical solutions through comprehensive
understanding of the threat
• Key areas for investment in the research
and development field
• Future requirements for solution providers

ABBS is currently focussed on developing and marketing
Active Mine Protection Systems (AMPS) for armoured
vehicles, working with three major partners who supply
the specialist technology required. A number of novel,
patented concepts and systems have been identified,
UK MOD and Technology Strategy Board/Innovate UK
Funding has been provided to carry out development
and Proof-of-Concept trials. The systems use fastreaction, very high impulse rocket motors which directly
counteract the mine blast forces to minimise the effects
of the mine blast on the vehicle. The system are at about
TRL6 and are ready for test on user’s vehicles.
