the host´s speech
Contents of Workshops:
Workshop 1: Restructuring the Food Chain, Mrs Kati Partanen, Lecturer and Mr. Paavo Maskulainen,
RDI Planner

The food markets are getting more and more global. This is presenting threats to
traditional food production and processors in the national food chain. It also presents
possibilities for new, agile ways in logistics, data acquisition and building new
business ecosystems.
Workshop 2: Wireless Sensing and Mobile Communication, Mr. Arto Toppinen, Principal Lecturer

We will introduce our 3G network where students can learn to configure all 3G
network components over the internet with real devices. In addition, we have a
NOKIA 3G base station in our lab with which we can do hands on lab works.

To study the 4G mobile network radio signal we have a National Instrument vector
signal generator and a vector signal receiver. With this device it is possible to study
and configure 4G LTE signals and for example multipath fading conditions.

Our project about wireless sensor network is planned to be used to monitor the lakes
in eastern Finland. We measure temperature, PH, radioactivity, heavy metals etc of
the lake water. We also have a background system with analysis and user interfaces.
One speciality is a robot fish which is moving under water and it measures the quality
of water at a region of 500 m radius.
Workshop 3: Global Health and Welfare, Mrs. Irma Mikkonen, Senior Lecturer

How to prepare students to be global citizens? Can we develop working life oriented
learning environments through co-operation, networking and internationalizatio
Workshop 4: Public-Private Cooperation in Higher Education, Mr Pauli Verhelä, Senior Lecturer

What? To whom? How? Multidisciplinary?
