Dear Members
Welcome to this special edition of HoofPrint!
As I write this last contribution as your District Commissioner, I am still smiling at the sight of 54 very
tired but happy Vine campers at last Friday’s Camp prize-giving. All the Rides had given lovely
demonstrations of their riding to the many parents and well-wishers who came along to watch and then
joined together for a packed finale in the dining hall. So many achievements were celebrated from the
week with lots of applause – over 100 Pony Club badges, ‘D’ and ‘D+’ certificates and Road Riders, as
well as Ride and Yard team rosettes.
It was a lovely end to another highly successful Camp and a fitting last one for Brenda Sampson who
has decided to hand over to a new organiser for next year. We were all amazed to discover that
Brenda has actually run 27 Vine Camps at various locations – all with great efficiency and good
humour (and quite a lot of last minute panicking as numbers of children went up and down, ponies
changed, riders swapped and other challenges came and went ☺…!). Such service to the branch over
so many years is quite outstanding although Brenda generously acknowledged the fantastic support
she has had this year from the Committee and from the vast army of parents who cheerfully pitched in
to help make it all happen.
Prize-giving ended with much laughter as Brenda was given gifts and surprised with a very special
tribute in the form of a hilarious ‘dubbed musical video’ of You are the One and Only starring children,
parents, instructors and of course ponies! For me, that last afternoon epitomised all that is best in the
Vine! Particularly with the massive water fight that went on during the final clear-up! Massive thanks to
everyone who helped and supported Camp this year!
Earlier in the wet summer we were lucky enough to hold our own Open Show which was very
successful and we thank Sally and Julian Small for letting us use Park Farm as our venue again.
Sadly, Park Farm had to postpone their own Show a few weeks later due to the wet weather but we
hope you will all turn out and support them on their new date of 2 September.
Also on our ‘home’ calendar, we have held Test and Road Rider sessions, had rallies and lots of team
training. And we have sent Vine members to all the Area competitions and Hickstead – reports follow.
Many congratulations to all our teams and individuals, including our Polo players, and good luck to
those who have qualified for the National Championships. Still to come, the Southern Novice and
Southern Mini Team Championships and our Mini ODE on 9 September.
Caroline Blatchford is taking over as your District Commissioner at the beginning of September and I
wish her every success and enjoyment. I am very happy that the branch will be in such good hands
and I know that the Committee will fully support Caroline in the running of the Vine.
A huge thank you from me to the Committee, to the Members and their families, to our instructors and
to our trainers for the last three and a half years and making it all such fun. The Olympics have left me
feeling very buoyant and positive and I do hope everyone else is inspired too! I am looking forward to
competing a little more often (at a somewhat more modest level!) with all this extra time I might find I
have! I hope to see many of you about too and I will continue to follow your progress and
achievements and to support the branch whenever I can!
Best wishes, Linda

STOP PRESS
Olivia Bartlett takes 3rd place individually at the Pony Club National Novice Eventing
Championships 2012 at Kelsall Hill in Cheshire and Lottie Ledger comes 7th in the Novice Dressage.
An outstanding achievement for both riders and their ponies.
The Pony Club NFU Mutual Novice Championships are the climax of a series of qualifying competitions
throughout the summer and Pony Club Members battled it out, both individually and in teams, for the top
spots across the three disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing. For the Vine to have not one
but two riders placed at this prestigious event is simply amazing. Congratulations!
Camp
A big thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s camp such a success. Special thanks to
Brenda as she steps down from her role as camp organiser.
PS Brenda is continuing her close involvement with the Vine PC as an instructor and Assistant District
Commissioner.

Show Jumping Report
Craven Inter-Teams Show Jumping Competition – 27 May 2012
This was to be our first 'official' team selected show jumping competition of the season, even though I know
a few of you were, over the winter, out competing in your own teams. Throughout the year all our show
jumping training rallies have always been full to capacity so we had many children to select from for the
various classes. The going was good and, believe it or not, even a little hard...but we had a good day and
the results are as follows:
Class 1 2'3-2'4
5th
Hattie Lees
Chloe Gallagher
Alice McGonnell (2nd individual)
Gemma Raymond
Class 2 2'6-2'8
4th
Georgie Bartlett (1st individual)
Laura McAlister
Alice McGonnell
Millie Coyne
6th
Georgie Bartlett (6th individual)
Tori McAlister
Connie Pike
Jessica Blatchford
5th
Tom Burton
Anna Jones
Chloe Gallagher
Alice McGonnell
Class 3 2'9
Ring 2
5th
There was also another ring 2 running for individual
competitors which The Vine had many members
riding in from the above names plus Anjelika and
Isobell Ryder, Izzy and Natasha Ackroyd, Emma
and Eloise Howell all of whom were placed
individually (there are too many too list
individually) and did The Vine proud!

The Area Show Jumping Competition - Sunday 8th July
Saturday the 7th July was a complete washout and the Area 14 show jumping competition had been
cancelled for that Saturday. Therefore all of us were expecting to receive the email the event was
cancelled but 'no' the show went on .... even though as we arrived lorries were being towed (see photo) in
and the heavens had opened once again! Despite the terrible weather and an extremely muddy car park
the actual going in the arena's was very good and everybody had learnt from last year the importance of
wearing studs! The Vine had a pretty good day despite not actually qualifying for the championships. All of
our team members completed the course without an elimination or fall and were pretty consistent,
representing the Vine well. The results are as follows:
Novice Class 2'9
Tom Burton
Emma Howell
Tara Pusinelli
Olivia Bartlett
HoofPrint
The team finished on an overall score of 8 faults (two fences down...no stops!) with Tom Burton doing two
lovely clears and going through to the jump off where he produced another lovely clear trained by Sharon,
that unfortunately wasn't quite fast enough. The Novice team did come 5th however in their tack and turn
out.
Mini Class 2'3-2'6
Izzy Ryder
Gemma Raymond
Hattie Lees
Laura McAlister
finished on an overall score of 12 faults (three fences down...no stops!).
Georgie Bartlett
Anjelika Ryder
Anna Jones
Alice McGonnell
came 6th overall with both Georgie and Anjelika doing two lovely clear rounds so Sharon had to select one
to go through to the jump off. That day it was the turn of Anjelika who rode superbly to Sharon's
instructions resulting in a very fast time with just one knock down.
Hickstead Show Jumping Competition – Saturday 4th August
Once again the show jumping team were up against the elements. The week before Hickstead we
had various emails with ring changes, parking changes and even time changes all due to the extremely wet
weather. But fortunately when we all arrived at Hickstead on the Friday afternoon the sun was shining and
the going looked good. Ponies were settled into stables and cars and lorries unloaded, while BBQ's were lit
and the wine being poured (all sounds very idyllic now!).
5am and the heavens opened with thunder and lightning and huge downpours but by the time we all met
with Sharon, our trainer, for course walking at 6:30am the rain had gone and stayed away for the rest of the
day.
HoofPrint
All the Hickstead courses are good solid fences with lots of space in the arena so all the children were
happy with their courses all be it a little nervous to be in a team situation - some of them for the first time.
The Vine didn't come away winning all the prizes but this year the branch is showing great depth and
consistency. The teams are not relying on just one or two team members to do well, at Hickstead, all
members rode extremely well and listened carefully to Sharon's instructions. A huge thank you must go out
to Sharon once again for doing such a marvellous and job and also to all Mums and Dads for being so easy
to organise!
The results are:
Mini 2'3 first round
Siobhan Heneghan
Chiara Heneghan
Anouk Mauree
Connie Pike
Finished on a score of 0 after the first round with Anouk, Siobhan and Chiara all going through to the jump
off. Siobhan and Chiara both did two lovely clear rounds but unfortunately weren't quite fast enough to
make it into the placing's.
Novice 2'6 first round
Georgie Bartlett
Gemma Raymond
Hattie Lees
Anna Jones
Finished on a total score of 4 after the first round but as only 6 teams out of 40 finished on 0 we went
through to the jump off with Gemma and Georgie both riding two more lovely clear rounds, with Georgie's
time being fast enough for us to finish in 9th place.
Intermediate 2'9 first round
Emma Lawrence
Tom Burton
Tara Pusinelli
Olivia Bartlett
Finished on a total score of 8 which meant they weren't able to go through to the team jump off. But Emma
who did go clear in the first round was able to jump off individually where she produced another clear but
just wasn't quite fast enough.
Once again well done everyone and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as you looked like you were on
Friday evening.
Mini Championships – Team Show Jumping - Saturday 25th August
The Vine was represented in the Show Jumping section by Izzy Ackroyd, Evie Mahony, Connie Pike and
Jessie Blatchford. The first round saw some really positive riding and the team finished with a score of 4
HoofPrint
faults. The afternoon course was challenging with relatively few clears for any of the teams. Despite a
couple of clipped poles falling, the Vine team finished in the rosettes with a 7th place.
Thank you to all those who represented The Vine at the Area and as of writing this we are all preparing for
The Southern Novice Championships further on in the summer holidays - Good luck everyone and to all of
you out there competing at whatever level!
Dressage Report
The Area Dressage - Sunday 15th July
The Vine again put up a great performance at the Area Dressage. Our Open team - Emma and Annabel
Chamings and Poppy de Groot - were 6th, with Emma coming 6th individually and qualifying for the PC
Championships - a fantastic result! Our Novice team - Lottie Ledger, Olivia and Georgia Bartlett and Emma
Lawrence - came 4th with Lottie Ledger riding a brilliant test to win her arena and qualify for the
Championships. Georgia Bartlett and Emma Lawrence also did extremely well to come 4th and 8th
respectively. Rebecca Tilley sadly had to withdraw from the Novice team when her pony became unwell
with suspected colic.

The Southern Mini Championships – Saturday 25th August
Confident and accurate riding, saw the Vine Dressage team (Connie Pike, Evie Mahony, Izzy Akroyd and
Jessie Blatchford) take 8th place with Connie coming 6th in her arena and Jessie 5th in hers.
VERY BEST OF LUCK to Emma and Lottie at the Championships! We will look forward to hearing how
they get on. GOOD LUCK too to our teams representing the Vine at the Southern Novice Championships
in the autumn.
Eventing Report
Area Eventing - Sunday 10th June
The Vine team of Emma Lawrence, Tara Pusinelli and Olivia Bartlett rode brilliantly at this competition.
With only three of them in the team and none of them having taken part at an Area Eventing competition
before, they did extremely well to come 5th out of 18 teams. Tara was 5th in her arena. Olivia was 2nd
individually and qualified for the National Novice Championships in Cheshire at the end of August. Emma
Lawrence was 11th in her arena.
Olivia Bartlett in action!

Chiddingfold PC ODE at Rogate – Sunday 17th June
In the Level 1 competition, Vine's team of Anouk Mauree, Chiara and Siobhan Heneghan and Georgie Vile
came 5th, with Siobhan 4th individually and Georgie 6th. In the Level 2 section, our team of Tori and Laura
McAlister, Hattie Lees and Georgia Bartlett performed well, with Georgia 4th individually, Hattie 8th and
Tori gaining Best Dressage in her arena.
Southern Mini Championships at Rogate – Saturday 25th August
The eventing team for the Mini champs was represented by Hattie Lees, Gemma Raymond, Siobhan
Heneghan and Chiara Heneghan. In between some extremely heavy downpours the dressage took place
first with all four members managing good results, then on to the show jumping coached under the watchful
eye of Sharon Quant where all four members produced four lovely clears. Finally it was time for the fun
part, the cross country, where the team picked up just 20 points between them for a hesitation at the
HoofPrint
steps with all members getting round and arriving home safely. The Vine team deservedly took 6th place
with Hattie coming 5th individually and Gemma coming 3rd individually.
Well done everyone and what a great successful day we all had!
Tetrathlon Report
Hambledon Hunt North Branch of the Pony Club Tetrathlon 2012
On Sunday 1 July a large group of Vine PC members headed off to Lower Peake Farm at Warnford for the
Tetrathlon organised by the Hambledon Hunt North branch. Most members were taking part in all four of
the tetrathlon disciplines – running, shooting, riding and swimming with two of the boys, Archie McAlister
and Patrick Adams opting for the triathlon (no riding).
The Vine competitors were well prepared thanks to Mr & Mrs Pusinelli kindly making their barn and pool
available for practices, John for his endless patience in helping everyone to work on their shooting
technique, Rachel and Lisa’s organisation of practices and to Lisa’s awesome list telling everyone exactly
where they had to be and at what time.
The day was a huge success for the Vine both in terms of enjoyment and team and individual
successes. The Munchkins team – Oliver Chamings, Wilfred Adams and Jessie Blatchford came first as a
team despite only having three members with Wilfred also winning individually and Jessie coming second.
The Minimus team of Tori McAlister, Siobhan Heneghan, Chiara Heneghan and Georgie Vile came 3rd and
also got lots of individual placings which were slightly confused by several of the girls somehow winning
prizes in the boys section! Anouk Mauree also competed as an individual in the Minimus class and Tom
Burton and Byron Schrivener represented the Vine in the Junior class. Congratulations to all. The Tet is,
without a doubt, one of the friendliest and inspiring events and the Vine will continue with their training at
the Pusinelli’s from September. Any new members or those wishing to give the Tet a go always welcome.
The next planned event is the Chiddingfold Tetrathlon on 21 October.

Park Farm Show
A big thank you to Linda Robinson and Brenda Sampson who saved the day by taking on the organisation
of the Vine PC Open Show at Park Farm, Oakley at short notice. Despite torrential rain and strong winds
overnight the event ran smoothly with a good turnout from both members and non-members. Help from all
the volunteers both on the day and in advance was invaluable. Thank you and we look forward to next
year.
