Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara West University of Timisoara Short History Founded by the decree law no. 660 issued on 30 December 1944, Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara – UVT – is the 4th most comprehensive university in Romania. Its eleven faculties basically cover all the main directions of study in science, economics, administration, humanities and arts. Being a university of tradition and prestige, UVT presently hosts almost 20.000 students, by offering 85 different BA programmes, 120 MA programmes, and 10 PhD. programmes, along with diverse post-doctoral research. It hosts over 1 million units, organised into book collections, periodicals, audio-video material etc. Almost 300 000 of these units are registered in the library’s electronic catalogue : www.bcut.ro. Also, the library offers access to over 50 000 journals and specialised electronic material all over the world. With the help of a reader's card, books can be borrowed at home or consulted on the spot, since the library offers over 1000 places for study (headquarters and 8 subsidiaries). QS Rankings In 2013 UVT entered TOP 800 QS World University Rankings; singular achievement in the West part of the country; on national level only two more universities managed to enter TOP 800 QS Ranking. In 2015 UVT was in TOP 700 QS World University Rankings. TOP 500 QS World University Rankings: 55 partner universities for Erasmus and 22 partner universities for bilateral agreements. In 2014 UVT was the only Romanian university in TOP 200 QS World University Rankings by subject: Modern Languages.
