The active equalization network takes into account the absorptive and reflective characteristics of
seats, windshield, seat coverings, instrument panel and door shapes,
speaker placement, and occupant placement.
To achieve the best performance of the sound system all tone controls should be set at the detent
position
Service:
Service will be limited to the replacement of the component parts listed in the “System
Configuration and Service Recommendation”, found later in this technical information package. No
internal amplifier repair or speaker repair is permitted in the field. Because of the uniqueness in
the custom acoustics of the equalization network, no external customer modifications are
recommended or sanctioned (I.E. graphic equalizers, additional sub-woofers, or additional power
amplification).
Any modifications to the system will void the warranty of the system components.
The enclosed technical and diagnostic information should serve as adequate source
material for the creation of dealer technical service information materials. If any additional
information is required, please direct inquiries to the attention of:

PROCEDURAL SUGGESTIONS & HINTS
•Look for problem centered around radio Head
•Ensure Amp connector is plugged into Amp
•Amp will not turn on without switched B+ supplied
•Check Amp B+ and Ground circuits
•Radio Head must have uniterupted B+ to
maintain Memory Settings

•Check if Amp is ON when Radio is OFF
•Check Radio for Noisy Power Up/Down

Providing a confirmed defect
Defective Speaker
Measure speaker wires for correct resistance (see
system layout diagram page.)
If speaker is presumed defective try swapping with a
known good speaker.
Also check for creases in cone or surround, replace if
creased.
Defective Amplifier
The system consists of one main 8 channel amplifier.
For one distorted channel try swapping speakers to confirm defective
part.
Note that the amplifier requires both a battery voltage and a SW
B+ voltage for the amplifier to turn on - Make sure both voltages
are present.
Connector Damaged or Loose
For switching noises:
Determine which speaker noises are coming from.
Substitute known "quiet" device for the noisy device. If
condition is corrected replace device.
See also, "No Audio" chart
Thermal intermittent problems may take several minutes to
occur. To reproduce try playing audio system at loud volumes
for several minutes.
If noise is heard in all modes (AM,FM,CD) check wire
harness to ensure proper connections. If only with AM or
FM ensure antenna circuit is ok per antenna test page.
In connectors (amp & radio) check connector terminals may
be loose or bent over. Shake connector while powered for
intermittent problems.
Antenna Circuit Issues
Check antenna measurements according to antenna
diagram.
If possible connect a known good antenna to test.
Note whether the problem occurs in all radio modes (AMFM-CD)
If possible measure signal strength or look for "stereo"
indicator in display.
Damaged Wire Harness
If single speaker defective check wires going to
suspect speaker for damage to insulation. If
possible disconnect both ends of harness and
measure resistance. (try flexing harness while
measuring)
If radio does not turn on check power (B+ &
ground) connections at amp and radio, also
checking switched B+. B+ should be 14V with
ignition on.
