The Nordgruvene Mines
– Falkbergets rike
– in the Realm of Johan Falkberget
Nordgruvene; Arvedal, Kongens, Christians
Sextus og Muggruva, som alle ble drevet
av Røros Kobberverk (1644–1977), ligger i
fjella rundt Orvsjøen. Det første malmfunnet
i dette området ble gjort i 1653. Kongens
gruve var i perioder verkets hovedgruve,
og på 1800-tallet ble det etablert et eget lite
samfunn ved gruva. I 1950-åra opphørte
virksomheten ved Kongens, og i 1973 ryddet
verket hele området ved å brenne gjenstående hus og anlegg. Den ene bygningen som
står på Kongens i dag, tilhørte drifta ved gruva på Lergruvbakken. Den ble nedlagt i 1977
da verket gikk konkurs. Nordgruvene er i dag
en del av verdensarven Røros bergstad og
Circumferensen. Over 300 år med gruvedrift
skapte mange spor i terrenget. Ruinene og
stallen på Sextus, smia på Mugg, Arvedalslinja, bergvelter, vassrenner, hjulgraver og

Nordgruvene
The Nordgruvene Mines form a part of the
UNESCO World Heritage Site Røros
Mining Town and Circumference. The Arvedal, Kongens and Christianus Sextus mines
are located near Orvsjøen Lake, along with
Muggruva to the north. All the mines were
operated by the Røros Copper Works (1644–
1977). Ore was found in this area as early as

the remaining houses and mining sheds. The
only building that remains at Kongens to this
day belonged to the mining operation at the
Lergruvbakken mines. The mines were closed when the company submitted its notice
of bankruptcy to the court in 1977. More than
300 years of mining have left its mark on the
landscape. The ruins and stables at Sextus,

Veien gjennom Mølmannsdalen er en del av
den gamle veiforbindelsen mellom bergstaden og Femunden. 6,5 km sørøst for Røros
bergstad ligger gården Mølmannsdalen. Den
er nevnt i en kilde fra 1647, men er antagelig
eldre. Fra 1654 var det direktører og embetsmenn ved Røros Kobberverk (1644–1977)
som eide og brukte Mølmannsdalen. Eiendommen ble etter hvert et praktfullt landsted
for de kondisjonerte. I 1936 kjøpte Staten
eiendommen av verket, og Mølmannsdalen
ble underlagt skogforvaltningen. Gården
ble en tid fortsatt brukt som seter. I dag eier
Røros kommune det historiske anlegget.
Småsetran, Skåkåsen og Gråbergan er setergrender langs de andre turløypene i fjellområdet nord for Mølmannsdalen. Setrene
hørte til bergverksbefolkningens gårder på
bergstaden. Det var seterdrift i disse grendene til rundt 1970. Mølmannsdalen og

Aasen fant malm da han var på reinsjakt i

Fra bygdene rundt gruvefjellet går det
et nettverk av stier og ferdselsårer som
gruvearbeiderne brukte. I deres fotspor er
de kulturhistoriske områdene. Landskapet er
åpent og værhardt og byr på rike natur- og
kulturopplevelser. Rørosmuseet Olavsgruva
er visningsgruve, og i museumsbygningen
formidles arbeiderhistorie, bergverkshistorie
og geologi.

The Storwartz and
Olavsgruva Mines
Copper was found at Storwartz in 1645. As
the story goes, a hunter named Hans Olsen
Aasen found ore when he was hunting reindeer in the area. The following year King
Cristian IV signed a Letter of Privilege
granting the Røros Copper Works exclusive
rights to exploit all the resources it found;
minerals, forest, watercourses and labour
in the Circumference, which was an area
with a radius of four old Norwegian miles
(4 x 11295 meters or 4 x 37000 feet) centred
at the Storwartz mines. Storwartz continued

Go biking around a
UNESCO World Heritage Site
The landscape around Røros offers a
number of great opportunities for bicycling
in beautiful surroundings. Three trail areas,
each with their own theme (see more
detailed descriptions on the second page),
and with a total of 297 kilometres of trails
are perfect for day trips out of Røros town
centre. The trails pass through a variety
of nature and cultural landscapes, forests
and high mountain terrain. You will also

have left on the landscape. Most of the
routes are a combination of country roads
(gravel), trails and old cart roads. Their
