A SIMPLEFIED OVERVIEW OF THE HINDAL GENUS
Hans Halvorsen Myklebust, who was born 1600 and lived on a relatively big farm on the island
Eigeroy in Egersund, Norway, is as far back as we have managed to trace an ancestor with a certain
amount of information. He had four sons. (His father was Halvor I Myklebust, therefore
“Halvorsen/son”).
As to the family name Hindal, it derives from the farm with the same name and is now a part of
Stavanger municipality. Andreas Johannessen Hindal b. 1806 in Stavanger managed the farm and the
owner gave him permission to take the name Hindal. Andreas married Anna Marie Svensdatter
Håland in 1843 and one of their eight children born at Hindal was Svend Andreassen Hindal:
The numbers refer to family branch and generation. Two digits is 2nd generation and three digits is 3rd
generation.
GENERATION 1
Svend Andreassen Hindal b. 29. jan. 1846 and wife Bojine, f. Olsen, b. 5. aug. 1849. Stavanger.
Svend was a sea captain and ship owner, and sailed on sailing ships until 1898. He died two years
later.
