BUNKER IMPROVEMENT WORK
BUNKER IMPROVEMENT WORK With the recent change in weather patterns, bringing in torrential rain, you will find the bunkers, particularly those at Palm course, collecting water. Some bunkers with old drainage lines, which have over the years lost their efficiency due to the collapsed pipes or roots invasion, have water ponding after every downpour and are unplayable. The golf course maintenance team is progressively carrying out bunker improvement works by checking the drainage lines and replacing failed pipes. We have discovered that the old pipes have slit lines on the undersides resulting in underground roots invading them and causing the pipes to block the flow of water. We have removed the blocked lines, replacing them with new solid pipes while ensuring good gradient flow. We have also backfilled them with USGA spec bunker sand and compacted the surface to playable conditions. Under the bunker sand where water needs to be drained out fast and where there is no threat from tree roots, the team used flat pipe (mega flow) wrap with geotextile for fast drainage. The improvement work has been put to test after downpours and we are happy to report that those with the new drainage lines installed are no longer collecting water. Work has been carried out at Palm course hole 8 (2 greenside bunkers) and hole 10 (3 greenside bunkers). Lake course Hole 1 (1 greenside bunker), hole 3 (2 fairway bunkers), hole 6 (2 greenside bunkers) and hole 9 (2 greenside bunkers). Lake course hole 3 fairway bunker drainage improvement work. Lake course hole 6 greenside bunker under drainage improvement work. Lake #6 greenside bunker. Twin Megaflow flat pipes run from greenside bunker to cart path drain. Lake course hole 9 greenside bunker drainage improvement work. Taking of gradient level before laying new megaflow flat pipe. Laying of Megaflow flat pipe with geotextile wrap. Lake course hole 9 bunker. Water is drained off to the sump via Megaflow flat pipe after a downpour. Lake course hole #6 greenside bunker no longer has water ponding after a downpour. Palm #8 greenside bunker after downpour before improvement work. Palm course #8 greenside bunker undergoing improvement work. Washing of granite channels before installing new drainage lines. Palm course #8 greenside bunker. Removal of old drain lines chocked up with tree roots. Replacing new drain line with solid pipe to prevent tree roots invasion.
