More than 60 Hotspurs players and a few visitors participated and had a whole lot of fun while working hard and learning Page 3 Team Spotlight: BU10 Let’s take a look at Coach Efrain Alba’s very promising group Labor Day Tournament Recreational Program The Hotshots Academy started training ion August 12. There is still time to signup your little ones and get them started the right way! Managers Corner The SDDA and Presidio League start date is rapidly approaching. Go through this check list to make sure you are prepared. Page 3 Page 3 and the GU14 White were finalists in Flight 3. Similar scenarios in the GU12 (Flight 1 and Flight 2 Champions) and the GU15 (Flight 2 and Flight 3 finalists). The Hotspurs Labor Day tournament is a tradition that keeps going strong, a quick review of last weekend. Many Finals were super exciting and a few of them went all the way to Penalty kicks. This year Labor Day Tournament has, once again, been a success with 200 teams participating. Walter Torres GU8 Premier and Matt Denick GU9 Premier got the short end of the stick in losing their shootout respectively to Albion and Blues. Many Thanks! On the other end Mark Kamahi GU10 White and Steve Lincoln GU19 Premier prevailed at the shootout, which may be a tough way to decide a game, but certainly provides true excitement as we can see from Steve’s reaction in this picture! Most sincere thanks to all the volunteers that made Hotspurs proud by ensuring a smooth Registration Night process, by keeping the venues clean, by helping with logistic challenges and by providing first class field marshal work. As in any large tournament there were some kink. A couple of brackets were lopsided as competition level, two teams dropped out late leaving a hole in the bracket and the heat was unbearable! Most fields were in pristine conditions and we were able to secure several turf fields in 4S Ranch, Poway, Santee, Pershing. Hotspurs USA Record showing for Hotspurs teams A record 21 Hotspurs teams reached the tournament Final and in some flights it really showed the program depth and health. For example, in all 3 GU14 flights an Hotspurs team made the final: the Premier team won Flight 1, the GU13 Premier (playing up) were finalists in Flight 2 Our goal is to make the tournament better and bigger in future years as the revenue from the tournament is very important to fund our programs and the scholarships budget. Thank you all very much for your support, your work and your enthusiasm. Congratulations to our GU12 Premier and BU12 Premier that qualified to play in the California Regional League. The Girls played their games in Camarillo and qualified winning their bracket with a tie over Real So Cal and a 4-1 win over Fram. The Boys played at Ayala Park and they finished tied for first place in bracket with Pateadores... to break the tie the two teams had to meet again after two weeks for a penalty kick shootout that our boys won 4-2. The new League will award the teams finishing 1st and 2nd a spot at the Far West Regional in Hawaii. Games will be played between September and March and a few games will be also played here in East County. An announcement will be made once the schedules are posted so that other teams can have the opportunity to come watch and support the teams. The Boys will face: Albion White, FC Los Angeles, Fram, Los Angeles Football Academy, Real So Cal, Surf Academy, Total Football Academy, United FC Black, FC Golden State, West Coast FC and Surf Premier. The Girls will face: Anaheim Surf, Arsenal FC, Carlsbad Lightning Red, So Cal Blues, Fullerton Rangers, Legends FC, Legends Gold, Real So Cal, Canyon FC and West Coast FC. This year they will play in the SDDA in Flight 1 and their skills and determination will be severely tested. It feels weird to use a word like “experienced” when talking about a U10 team, but really this is a very experienced and battle tested group that plays with confidence and intensity. O T S P U R S U S Hotspurs Additional Training & Camp Team Managers Corner There are opportunities to get extra-training even now that the Camp season is over. SDDA and Presidio game procedures The Hotspurs Camp was a success with more than 60 athletes participating and working hard all week. • Make sure your new players cards are ringed in alphabetical order (by last name), apply pictures when needed and are properly laminated Now, for the ones that want more, the Friday Clinics have resumed and are running with a modified format that emphasizes finishing • Make sure you have a CalSouth registration form (also called medical release) with wet signature and copy of birth certificates for all your players. Every Friday from 5-7pm at Los Coches Middle School, all players will participate in one or two finishing sessions (40 to 80 minutes of just finishing), that should help our teams in capitalizing on their scoring opportunities. • All teams- make sure your team has fully PAID the registration fees. If you encounter any special situation work with treasurer@hotspursusa.com Since the spring of 2012 they made the Final or won the Championship in 10 tournaments, finished 2nd in their Presidio bracket and reached the Quarter finals at State Cup where they only lost in Overtime. Also, Goalkeepers, remember to follow Coach Matt Robertson schedule and attend your sessions. That is quite an accomplishment at such a young age, and wouldn’t be possible with the dedication of the coaching staff and a great group of parents. Hope to see many of you every Friday! In 2013 they won the championship at the Poway Shootout, CSC Cup, Chula Vista Showcase and were finalists at the Nomads and our own Labor Day Tournament, along this stretch they notched wins over Arsenal, Surf, Rebels and many others Clubs. Recreational Program Games begins They are certainly headed in the right direction and I am sure they will have a great SDDA season Congratulations and good luck to Coach Efrain and his players Gabriel Alba, Dillan Bryan, Davin Burroughs, Chase Cortes, Juan Jimenez, Elijah Martinez, Christopher Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez Mariscal, Gabriel Ronquillo, Alexander Shields, Robert Somerville. A In addition to the weekly or bi-weekly sessions with Matt, every Friday Coach Eli will be at Los Coches for additional GK training. There is still time to sign up for the Hotshots Academy and get your little ones started the right way. The Hotshots Academy practices are running at full steam, under the experienced guide provided by Hanna Butcher and the assistance of Jessica Seevers. This Saturday games will begin in the lower baseball outfield grass at Los Coches. For $99 we offer 16 weeks of professional training, uniforms, games, picture day, trophies and everything that is important to your little ones (like otter pops during their own Recreational Camp for example). This is a Cal-South registration, so you can do this in addition to AYSO if you like. • The Friday before each game - Log in to your Presidio account, click on schedule, print the roster card for your weekend game(s). One copy if you are traveling, 3 copies using the colored paper if you are home. • Make sure you picked up the Referee Fees Check from treasurer@hotspursusa.com • Before each home game - Prepare the money for the Referee with the exact denominations of bills as per our Referee payment form. Available here http://www.hotspursusa.com/forms.htm • After each home game - Email the payment form to treasurer@hotspursusa.com and after each game, report the score from the roster card signed by the Referee and the Coaches. • Be on the lookout for the Annual Casino Night, rumor is that this year it will be held in connection with an Hotspurs Golf Tournament! This event will require the support of all teams.
