When, in 2004, as Managing Director of Litestructures, Adrian Brooks decided
to purpose build a world-class rehearsal studio on the company’s home base
manufacturing site in Yorkshire, U.K., he was indeed taking a risk, albeit one in
keeping with his, and the company’s entrepreneurial history. Three decades earlier,
Brooks had created the world’s first lightweight, aluminium modular trussing
system, Astralite, which was used to create the extraordinary set for the live
television show ‘The Tube’ in 1982. Developing and extending this revolutionary,
innovative concept had kept him in touch with the concert and touring marketplace,
most recently with the introduction of LiteDeck, the world’s premier stage decking
system.
The LS-Live Studio launched in 2005, welcoming Coldplay as its first client, and
was later officially opened by H.R.H. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. It is now
universally acknowledged as one of Europe’s largest, purpose built and best
equipped studio spaces. It is also the homebase for the re-branded company,
LS-Live, whose extensive facilities and unequalled array of resources allow it to
meet the needs of this sophisticated and dynamic entertainment industry today,
and for years to come.
From its central location in the U.K., LS-Live is ideally placed to serve the varying
demands for equipment hire, stage and set design and build, touring show
rehearsal, customising, and hands-on technical training. This ever-improving
resource has hosted acts like The Stone Roses, Kasabian, Rihanna, Robbie

STAGE & SET CONSTRUCTION
This is an area in which LS-Live truly excels, and one for
which we have already won awards. The key here is that,

range of modular components, we offer unrivalled design
and build facilities on site. Ideas can take shape quickly,

in the design and fabrication of stage sets, temporary

STUDIO
The LS-Live Studio is Europe’s largest, purpose - built
studio facility that offers a real-life arena-sized
environment for everything from rehearsals of concert
tours, to TV and film productions, to product launches
and corporate events. It is supported by world-class
facilities, smaller studios and accommodation, as well
as dedicated staff.

Johnnie Walker Viewing Tower at Goodwood Festival of Speed
STAGE & SET CONSTRUCTION: 1.0
Kasabian, Velociraptor! World Tour
LS-Live worked with top London experiential marketing agency RPM
and Johnnie Walker to develop a bespoke viewing tower for the Scottish
whisky brand at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Based on an initial concept for a viewing tower, LS-Live developed the
idea into a multi-platform unit with viewing decks, a covered terrace,
discreet entrance, lounge area and facilities for live music.
The company’s in house design team worked the ideas into detailed
CAD drawings for the client, indicating a structural footprint of 12.8m by
18.6m, with the first platform at 8m high and the second at 12m high.
Kasabian’s production team used our studio facility to build and rehearse
their stage show in 2011, using our in-house team to produce an
innovative dome shaped truss structure that could support lighting and
video as part of the set.
The Johnnie Walker Viewing Tower was built out of Layher products,
combined with an aluminum truss roof and reached 16.4m high at its
peak.
Tsingtao Dragon, Mojo Fuel Ltd
LS-Live designed and fabricated a bespoke fire-breathing, ping pong
shooting dragon robot for client Mojo Fuel Ltd, to travel throughout UK
bars as part of Chinese beer brand Tsingtao’s Dragon Masters Ping Pong
experience tour in July 2012.
Show Producer/Designer Antony Randall said the only facility capable
of designing and producing a stage set of this size under huge time
constraints was us. We helped pull together a massive, movable, multilevel structure in under a week for his headline show in June 2012,
which featured Rihanna.

LS-Live designed and built a stage set for Tinie Tempah’s first UK
arena tour in 2011, to include a raised three-tier LiteDeck stage system
and three bespoke Versatube clad cages on scissor lifts to elevate the
performers during the show, and a manlift for Tinie Tempah’s reveal.
Event production agency Ear to the Ground commissioned LS-Live to
create a custom scissor lift platform for their client Samsung to feature
in the Olympic Torch Relay events around the country.

Karak Castle
LS-Live’s Mark Jackson travelled to Jordan to install a colour-changing
LED lighting system that he had designed to illuminate the whole
exterior of Karak Castle and other city landmark features. The lighting
show is viewed from an amphitheatre 600m away, which was designed
and installed by LS-Live using Prolyte manufactured trussing. The show
is controlled via our LiteSwitch control system and programmed in time
to a presentation, for a unique visitor experience. For more information

LS-Live created a custom triple size DJ booth to boost the visual
performance of A-list DJs for live music/dance hotel brand Ibiza Rocks
for the summer of 2012. The product is a pioneering adaptation of the
aluminium LiteConsole which has been specially fabricated to support
LED panels.
AutoCAD
Using industry-leading drawing software package AutoCAD, LS-Live
can quickly and efficiently create an accurate architectural drawing
or 3D model for your design, allowing you to visualise the dimensions

Once an accurate digital drawing has been created, we can transform it
into a highly realistic visual using Autodesk Showcase 3D visualisation
software, allowing you to evaluate and manipulate detail to try out
different ideas, without the need to create a physical prototype.

Neon Flex
Widely regarded as an inventor extraordinaire, our in house electronics
engineer has created everything from the Scissor Sisters’ iconic stage
set “legs” to a custom hoist control system for the new Jesus Christ
LS-Live also specialises in creating custom neon signs. For example our
trained engineers and technicians produced a custom colour-changing
LED RGB tubed backdrop sign for pop sensation Jessie J’s first major
Superstar show, and a bespoke automated mock x-ray machine. We
are capable of manufacturing just about anything; our skills extend to,
but are not limited to, electrical engineering, wiring, hydraulics and
mechanics.

In 2012, LS-Live became sole manufacturer of DMX lighting controller
LiteSwitch, after Mark Jackson noted a gap in the market for an easy-touse control system for LEDs that even the least technical people can use

products and regularly sell our ex-hire kit in order to replenish our stock
with new equipment.

The Mini Stage in use at Raw Fest 2012
The Mini Stage provides small outdoor events with an affordable, hasslefree and complete stage system for a professional looking set up. Quick
to assemble in around four hours, the stage can be built on the day of
your event by our fully trained crew who will also handle the transport
for you and work to your schedule.
EQUIPMENT RENTAL: 1.0
Mini Stage
Measuring 5.5m x 5.5m, the stage can be adapted to suit your needs
with additional ramps, step units and optional grey PVC for the back and
sides. The structure can support a small amount of lighting, but is not
designed for large loads. Due to the arch construction, PA wings are not
available for this structure, with freestanding towers being the preferred
alternative.

Rolling House Stages
LS-Live specialises in industry standard rolling house stages for longterm installation or concert touring. Our rolling house stages are based
on a LiteDeck stage system, complete with legs, handrails and step
systems and are fully compatible with all LiteDeck shapes. They are
available in a variety of different sizes and heights, up to 60’ by 40’.
Extremely lightweight: 8’ x 4’ unit weighs only 50kgs
The leg frame system has been designed incorporating feedback from
crews and rental companies, to facilitate the fastest and easiest build
possible. Using four way leg tops minimises the number of legs, whilst

Stereophonics 2008
LS-Live’s LiteDeck product has become the de facto product for rolling
risers across the world. Ideal for facilitating quick changeovers of
equipment, rolling risers are made from modular LiteDeck platforms
mounted on braked or non-braked wheels. Depending on your
requirements, our rolling risers come in a variety of different heights
and sizes, and can be finished in black plywood or carpet. Rolling risers
are a highly popular product for festivals and we are happy to discuss a
suitable package for your entire event.

LiteConsole
The LiteConsole is a rock solid concert touring and event DJ console
that will boost the stage presence of any performer. First inspired by
Paul Oakenfold’s desire to maximise his visual impact on Madonna’s
‘Sticky & Sweet’ tour, the console has already been a hit on tour with
Tinchy Stryder, Example and Tinie Tempah. Our LiteConsole comes
complete with a custom vinyl nameplate for the front of the booth and
an LED batten.
It’s designed to be durable and flexible for life on the road; it rolls
straight on and off stage for quick changeovers and can also be rolled
directly onto the truck before heading off to your next gig.
It is an extremely versatile and easy-to-assemble podium structure
perfect for exhibition stands, corporate presentations, retail
environments and musicians. Its innovative modular design means
you can double the size of the console with a simple extension pack.

XPRS
The XPRS is the newest product added to our rental stock that will no
doubt transform the visual performance and lives of mobile DJs up and
down the country. It is the latest incarnation of the LiteConsole, only
lighter, quicker to assemble with a folding system and therefore more
portable. It has already been used at V Festival in 2012.
The XPRS can be assembled by just one person in a matter of minutes
and the frame flat packs neatly to fit into the boot of an average car. The
product can feature a logo panel to the front, or this space could support
a 50” plasma screen, back-lit corporate logo, LED panels, drape or
similar form of branding.

Westlife
Whitney Houston’s production team turned to LS-Live to design and
supply a full equipment hire package to form her stage show for a
worldwide tour in 2011. The show used mainly standard off-the-shelf kit,
along with a few custom pieces.

Westlife have relied on LS-Live time and time again to produce entire
stage sets for their world tours over the years, which have mainly been
designed using off-the-shelf rental equipment.
Sharp Fan Labs
AT Tour
LS-Live worked with client MSL Global to produce a frame structure
from our standard truss products with custom pieces, to support their
hospitality unit provided to UEFA Euro 2012 sponsor Sharp. We took the
structure to the event in Poland where our crew built and de-rigged it.
We created a custom multi-platform set using standard ex-hire
equipment for the free-running AT Tour in summer 2012 for client
Peel Entertainment.

Covering 30,000 sq ft on a site in West Yorkshire, the LS-Live Studio is
Europe’s largest purpose-built rehearsal space. The arena-sized studio is
supported by a unique combination of facilities, which means you have
everything at your fingertips to create a concert production, film set,
product launch or structure pre-build.
Our studio is a blank canvas for you to create your own event, be it a
car product launch, rock ‘n’ roll Christmas party, battle of the bands,
business conference or corporate event. We will do our best to work
out a package that suits your needs and accommodate any special
requirements you may have, be it an odd rider request or advice on
nearby locations for filming.

Castrol Viral Advert
Faithless Secret Gig
Matte Black Films produced and filmed a free climbing scene involving a
suspended structure designed and built by LS-Live in February 2012.
In March 2007, Faithless performed a secret one-off gig for a select
group of 260 fans in the LS-Live Studio, which was filmed for Channel 4.
Fans were taken by coach from central Leeds to the ‘secret location’ and
upon entering the Studio, had a sneak preview of the band’s production.

Tour Group turned to LS-Live to help design and build a three tier moving
stage set for Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend in May 2012 which was
constructed in the LS-Live Studio.
The production team for the iconic Manchester rock band chose us as
the perfect facility to pull together their comeback shows in May 2012.

The third floor is home to our new professional band rehearsal room,
commonly known as the Saxon Suite, which was opened by the British rock
legends in 2012. It’s available to hire separately or as part of a hire package
with the main studio. The LS-Live Studio is a multi-functional space that

studio, extra dressing room, make-up room or product launch.

Tucked away at the top of the building is the calm retreat of the LS-Live
Hotel. Guests can save time and money by booking in to one of our 13
single rooms or special double room, which are all en-suite, fully air

Covering the entire area of the LS-Live Studio roof, with full view of
the arena below, the gantry comprises a platform of walkways offering
riggers easy access to the roof beams, which slide in and out over
LS-Live unifies all its areas of operation under one gigantic roof. Situated
opposite affiliated manufacturing plant Prolyte (UK) Ltd, LS-Live runs
the Studio alongside its adjoining equipment rental store, stage and set
the mothergrid. The gantry is also a good birds eye vantage point for
filming action in the studio.

LS-Live is located 170 miles north of London in the Yorkshire countryside
between Leeds and Sheffield. It has excellent links to the A1, M1, M62
and two railway stations.
We are close to a number of international airports including Robin Hood
Doncaster airport, Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester International
airport. A local airfield within minutes of our facilities accommodates
helicopter flights. There are a range of hotels close by and we are happy
to point you in the right direction.

backlit LCD display.
Through our years of experience in special electrical projects and
installations, we have noted an increasing demand by our clients for a
lighting control system to operate LED lighting displays that is easier to
use for the non-technical person.
More and more architectural applications are making use of DMX lighting
fixtures such as LEDs, whether for restaurants, hotels, museums, bars or
historical buildings, but often the control systems can be too complex for
the average employee to understand.
LS-Live’s Mark Jackson has pioneered the development of the LiteSwitch
control system, an easy-to-use lighting control system with a simple
interface designed to fill this gap in the market.
Colours, intensities, dynamic effects and immensely complex lighting
programs can be called up by the push of a single button. It is able to
control up to 350 DMX channels and its power is further enhanced by the
provision of real time clock functions, PIR sensing, daylight detection
and general purpose remote switching functions.
All this can be programmed from the keypad using the simple menu
system without the need to plug in an external computer. For those with
more experience in the entertainment lighting world, the LiteSwitch
snapshot mode allows them to use their favourite control desk or PC
based control system to set up their lights.

The training centre offers everything from short courses for those wanting to try their hand at
something new, to month-long courses for people that want to get into a particular discipline such
as Lighting, Live Sound or Staging, right up to the 16-month Foundation Degree in Live Events
Production (validated by The University of Bolton).
We are always looking to expand our network of industry ‘supporters’, both individuals and
companies. Individuals might want to pass on their experience via tutoring courses or being a guest

LS-Live is committed to saving energy across
all aspects of the business and its state-of-theart facilities have been designed in line with the
Carbon Trust Scheme, with the aim of reducing
the business’ carbon emissions. The en-suite
bedrooms, gym, multi-purpose studios, dressing
rooms, catering, production offices and green
room are all equipped with energy-saving LED
lighting and carbon efficient air conditioning.
In 2009, LS-Live joined forces with a new European rental partner, leading German set and lighting
design company Gunther Hecker GmbH, based in Werne. Its portfolio boasts a host of cuttingedge live events, TV shows and bands, including lighting design for The Fabulous Four (Die
Fantastischen Vier) and Tokio Hotel.
Investment in the building’s infrastructure has also
made LS-Live more eco-friendly; all the heating,
cooling and hot water is now generated via solar
panels that have been installed on the roof.
The business is steered by founder Gunther Hecker’s 20 years experience in the industry, which
started with an early career in theatre. He now oversees the application of the company’s extensive
lighting and visual skills across a variety of disciplines, from music productions to impressive
architectural and building installations. Gunther Hecker GmbH does not only provide standard
decks, but also offers a variety of circular stages and macrolon-decks.

The core material of all LS-Live’s projects is
aluminium and we are proud to be aligned with
what is widely regarded as a ‘green’ metal; the
main reason being it is 100% recyclable. Around
three quarters of all aluminium ever made remains
in use today. Mining of aluminium causes minimal
disruption to the environment and it’s also easy
to extract.
