Twelve personal memory slots: these slots can be filled manually as the rider wishes. Finding and saving stations automatically Selecting the band ( 20). Finding and saving radio stations Saving stations The BMW Motorrad audio system has 24 station memory slots for each waveband. After the audio system has been switched on, the tuner needs about one minute to find all the receivable stations. Allow this time to expire before starting an automatic search, as otherwise stations not found before your search starts cannot be taken into account. The twelve stations with the strongest signal will be found and saved. Then the station saved in memory slot 1 will be played. If fewer then twelve stations are found the lowest frequency in that band will be saved in the remaining memory slots. If no station can be found then NO SIGNL will be displayed. Station search, manual Hold down the MEM button until AS--SEEK is displayed. Selecting the band ( 20). Press the MODE button repeatedly until the MAN-mode is active. In field 1, MAN is displayed. Move multi-controller 1 in direction a or b to find the next receivable station. Move multi-controller 1 in direction a or b and hold it in this position to select a specific frequency. The frequency search stops as soon as the multi-controller is released, even if no playable station has been found on the current frequency. The menu closes and the new settings are applied if a certain period of time elapses without a button being pressed or if you press a different button on the operating panel. Radio Data System (RDS) Move multi-controller 1 in direction a or b to change the The name of the station can only be displayed if the RDS function is on. If no station name is transmitted, waveband and frequency are shown in the display. Some stations broadcasting in the FM waveband transmit additional information, including programme names. Select RDS setting (RDS). The following settings are available: RDS OFF: RDS function off. RDS ON: RDS function on. Traffic channel If a station broadcasting on the FM waveband transmits traffic announcements, this is in many countries included in the RDS information ( 24). If at least one station with traffic announcements is being received by the audio system, the field 1 will contain the symbol T. The traffic channel station does not necessarily have to be the same as the station that is currently playing. If a traffic channel station is being played and the traffic channel function is on, any other operating mode is interrupted for the duration of the announcement. You can switch on the traffic channel function only if RDS is active. Select the traffic-program function (TP) (not available in all countries). The following settings are available: TP OFF: Traffic-program function OFF TP ON traffic-program function ON. If the traffic-program function is ON and at least one station with a traffic channel is receivable, TP is displayed in field 1. Regional broadcasts In the FM band, stations can use several frequencies for their programming. These may vary from region to region. These alternative frequencies are contained in the RDS data, which enables the audio system to change the frequency of the station automatically according to where it is. Some stations use these different frequencies to broadcast different, region-specific programmes at different times of day. This could mean that the programme will change automatically if the region is changed, even if the rider has not changed the station. If the rider does not want the programme to be changed, the regionalisation function can be switched off (REG). 4 25 Radio Switching on trafficprogram function z 4 Radio 26 z Switching REG function on or off Select regionalisation function (REG) (not available in all countries). These plugs include a 3.5mm jack a USB connection (supports USB 1.1 and USB 2). The audio device must have a compatible connector be stowable inside the stowage compartment be able to withstand vibrations arising from normal motorcycle use be able to withstand the high temperatures occurring inside the stowage compartment in summer. Because of the increased mechanical stress, certain unsuitable audio devices may be damaged, for which BMW Motorrad accepts no liability. Refer to the operating instructions of your audio device for any possible usage restrictions. BMW Motorrad advises against using devices with hard disks as media storage devices, as vibrations may cause playback to skip and may damage the device. The audio system provides a supply voltage via the USB plug, though which it is possible to charge mobile telephones and other such devices. Connecting several USB devices via a hub is not possible as the supply voltage is limited. Connecting audio device Switching off audio system ( 14). Use USB plug connection 1 to connect the audio device to the audio system. Connect an Apple iPod to the audio system using the USB plug 1 and the jack plug 2. You can obtain the correct adapter cable from your BMW dealer. Connect other audio devices to the audio system and switch on via the jack plug 2. To stop it slipping, secure the audio device in its slot 3 where possible. Close the lid of the compartment, making sure that neither the audio device nor the cable is trapped. Switching on audio system ( 14). Select playback source ( 29). Select playback source The following sources are available: Radio (TUNER) MP3 storage device (USB) Apple iPod (IPOD) Other audio devices (AUX) Media storage devices as playback devices Press the SRC button to select the playback source. The selected playback source is shown in field 1. The audio system scans the media storage device for tracks encoded as MP3s. While the scan is taking place, LOADING is shown on the display. Subdirectories are also scanned. The tracks found are then numbered in alphabetical order and played in this order. The number assigned to a track determines the track's place in the playback order and does not correspond to its location on the storage device. The track titles in the MP3 data (in the ID3-Tag) determine the alphabetical order of the playback list and the title displayed on the 5 29 External media players Attempting to route the connecting cable out between the radio compartment and the cover can damage the seal. Do not attempt to route the connecting cable out of the radio compartment. z 5 External media players 30 z system. This may not necessarily be the same as the filename. To obtain greater control over how tracks are sorted, you can save the tracks in directories with names beginning "BMW" and then a number from 1 to 9 (e.g "BMW1...").These directories are only recognised if they are in the root directory of the device and will be displayed by the audio system as playlists. Directories cannot contain subdirectories. Playback of the tracks in these directories will occur as described above in alphabetical order. The USB stick can have only one partition and must be either FAT 16 or FAT 32 formatted. iPod playback The audio system will first try and detect any tracks saved on an iPod. While the scan is taking place, LOADING is shown on the display. The tracks found are then numbered in alphabetical order and played in this order. The number assigned to a track determines the order in which they are played. The track titles from the iPod are used as titles for alphabetic sorting and display. This may not necessarily be the same as the filename. The playlists from the iPod will also be found in addition to the individual tracks. The audio system will recognise all lists whose name begins with "BMW" and then a number from 1 to 9 (e. g. "BMW1..."). The tracks in these playlists will be played alphabetically as described above. The iPod receives power from the USB cable. iPhone An iPhone can be used as a playback source in the same way as an iPod. The telephone func- tions are deactivated while the iPhone is being used as a playback source; a message to this effect might appear in the display of the iPhone. Other playback devices The audio system outputs the track that is currently being played by the playback device via the speakers. The playback device cannot be controlled by the system if it is only connected via the jack. Using a media storage device and an Apple iPod Select USB or iPod as a playback source. In the case of audio devices that can only be connected to the system via the jack, the volume that can be set depends on: the output power of the audio device the input-signal level you select the volume to which the audio device is set You should set the input-signal level and adjust the volume of the audio device in such a way that the volume range available for adjustment corresponds to that of the other operating modes. Adjusting input-signal level Press the SET button repeatedly until AUXVOL is displayed. Move multi-controller 1 in direction a or b to adjust the signal level. This output (LINE output) must be activated in the sound settings before use. A compatible navigation device (e.g. BMW Motorrad Navigator IV) can be connected to the audio system by means of two-pole plug connection 2.
