Pymatuning State Park – the “Spillway” “Where the duck walk on the fish” Pymatuning Reservoir is the largest lake in the Commonwealth. In addition to the state park facilities, A must see the “SPILLWAY” “where the ducks walk on the fish”, 500,000 tourists visit this attraction per year. Toss in bread and watch the feeding frenzies have thousands of carb and ducks and geese fight for the bread. The “Spillway was featured in Good Housekeeping Magazine for “America the Unusual” and featured in the New York Times. Adjacent to the Spillway is the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, who operates a fish hatchery and visitor center. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has wildlife viewing areas and a learning center. The Park, a lake front park, opened as Exposition Park in 1892 to take advantage of the adjacent Conneaut Lake. .The park was renamed "Conneaut Lake Park" in 1920 to reflect a move toward more amusements and rides. The Park’s rides date back to 1938. Here you can ride rides that your great-‐parents rode. The Blue Streak a wooden coaster was recently classified as "historic" by the group American Coaster. Amusement Today magazine ranked the Blue Steak #44 out of 195 wooden roller coasters in the world. Stay at the Lake Front Hotel Conneaut, enjoy dinner at Elizabeth’s. The Park features festivals such as the Fall Pumpkin Fest which attracts 30,000 visitors to the Park. Ride the Kaylee Belle Paddle Boat and take a tour of Conneaut Lake the Commonwealth’s largest glacial Lake. The winery fashions itself after a turn-‐of-‐the-‐century winery and performs all of the winemaking operations at the 6,400 square foot winery. Tender loving care is applied to each process, from the grapes to the bottle. The grapes are gently squeezed by small bladder presses and then aged in stainless steel tanks, French oak barrels, and American oak barrels. The winery offers a broad spectrum of tastes from the farm wines of our grandparents (Native American) through the more sophisticated French-‐American hybrids to the noble vinifera of world fame. They were purchased used, and were manufactured somewhere between 1947 and 1950. The reason so few places still use this type machine is that they are very difficult to run. They cannot be started and left alone, or they can literally self-‐destruct. An operator must be within earshot of them whenever they are running, and that is why the person behind the machines does not serve customers. Originally the hot dog stand started out as a produce stand, but business was unstable back in 1947, so Eddie started thinking about what an old timer once told him: "You can always make a penny selling a hotdog." Located in downtown Meadville, the market house serves as a venue for sale of area produce and products, as well as a meeting place and a link between the town community and surrounding farms. The market house remains open year round, offering fresh baked goods, maple syrup, crafts, fresh meats, and cheeses; fresh fruits and vegetables are abundant during the harvest season. Breakfast is ready and the coffee is hot when the home style restaurant opens every day at 6 a.m. The doors close at 5 p.m. daily (Saturday at 3 p.m.) to prepare for the next day's business. In 1917, a second floor was added to the Market House, and this area is currently home to the Meadville Council for the Arts, which has converted the extra space into an art gallery with a small theater. The property was purchased by William Reynolds. In 1846 the Reynolds family moved in. Reynolds was a lawyer, businessman, first Mayor of Meadville and President of the Atlantic & Great Western Railway. Reynolds made many changes to the house during the time he and his family lived there. It was built by Ernest Hempstead. It hosted live stage shows up into the 1920’s when it began to share the stage with silent films. In the late 1920’s it was converted to a movie theater.
