Local Live Music Calendar June 2016
Celebrating our 24th year
Traditional & Original Acoustic Roots
Local Live Music Calendar June 2016
Support live roots music in N. E. Ohio & let friends know you found it here.
The Chorus of the 17-year (Brood V) Cicadas
Many millions of inch-long, red eyed, harmless winged insects, the cicadas, have swarmed from a 17year underground hiatus here in northeast Ohio and begun singing their unique loud, screechy, buzz
of courtship. Domestic pets (your dog or cat) are attracted to this sound and will gladly gorge on
them, but the overwhelming number of the bugs is the key to their survival. We only enjoy the
company of this noisy horde for about six weeks. The next generation crawls out to visit in May 2033.
Ohio is home to two broods of periodic cicadas and the particular batch emerging this year, Brood V,
appears from roughly mid-May to mid-June, and only in the eastern half of the state.
