Dear Grade 7 Parents and Students:
On behalf of the Middle School, I wish you a warm welcome to LCC. We’re all looking
forward to an exciting and eventful year.
We will meet for the first time on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Students should arrive at
school by 8:00 am and will be directed to their appropriate meeting areas. Grade 7
students should look for a sign indicating a drop-off area for their baggage for Camp
Nominingue and should not be in school uniform as they will be leaving for camp. All
Middle School students will follow a general orientation and will receive their lockers
and timetables. Grade 7 students will leave for Camp Nominingue at 10:30 am.
There are a number of important documents to be read and forms which require
completion. Please review everything carefully and return the forms to the front office by
August 24.

Note that students who do not submit their Health, Code of Commitment, and
Trip/Activity Waiver Forms (including the Level I Waiver) by the opening day of school
will not be permitted to participate in co-curricular activities (e.g., experience trips and
activities, athletics, etc.).
In addition to this letter, please review all of the “All School items” listed in Chris
Shannon’s letter. These items will provide a great deal of valuable information.
This year, Lion Tracks has been divided into two shorter documents, which are available
as electronic documents only (see Mr. Shannon’s letter for links). The Lion Tracks
Student Honour Code clearly outlines the school’s expectations with regards to
acceptable conduct and school policies. The Lion Tracks Student and Parent Handbook
provides a comprehensive overview of school routines, procedures and general
expectations. Please read through the Student Honour Code with your child and review
the sections in the Parent and Student Handbook that are relevant to you. Being familiar
with school routines, policies and procedures is a component of a successful year.
Vincent Jansen, Director of Information Services, will send an important separate
notification shortly that will include details about our student information system, IT
forms, MacBook pickup details and other related IT news.

GRADE 7 OUTDOOR EXCURSION TO CAMP NOMININGUE
From August 29 – August 31, all grade 7 students and a group of LCC staff members will be participating in an
orientation program at Camp Nominingue, located 200 kilometres north west of Montreal. This three-day period is
an excellent introduction to the school year. The students will have an opportunity to enjoy a variety of outdoor
activities, sleep in tents (on wooden platforms), and most importantly, get to know one another and the staff with
whom they will be dealing all year. The camp has adequate indoor facilities should the weather be inclement.
Required activities include canoeing, kayaking, wall climbing, orienteering, initiative tasks, archery, and a nature
hike. Some of the optional activities include swimming, tennis, basketball, and soccer.
The buses will leave at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 29, from LCC. The estimated return time to LCC is
4:00 pm on Friday, August 31.
Mr. Robert Tipney, Mr. David Howard, and Mr. Jeff Sykes will lead staff supervisors. Two qualified waterfront
supervisors will be on hand. One of our school nurses will be on site throughout the program.
Food preparation will be under the direction of a professional chef and his team. Three nutritional meals and a snack
will be provided each day. While the menu is designed to meet the needs of all students, those with dietary
restrictions may require other alternatives. If we know ahead of time, arrangements can be made to accommodate
vegetarians. If your child is a vegetarian or has a specialized diet, you may wish to send along special food for
him/her which can be easily prepared. This food will be kept in the camp's kitchen.
Although we would prefer that you not telephone or fax your son/daughter during this trip, should you need to
contact Camp Nominingue, the telephone number is 819-278-3383. The fax number is 819-278-3107.
While the students will be gone for only three days, it is important that they be properly equipped for a variety of
weather conditions. Please refer to the recommended clothing and equipment list below. All items should be
identified by name with cloth name tapes or a laundry marker ball point pen. As storage space on the bus will
be limited, all clothing should be placed in a labeled kit bag and not in a solid metal trunk.

Students should arrive at school on August 31 ready for their camping experience (no school
uniform!). There will be a sign in front of the school indicating the drop-off area for Nominingue
baggage. The students will be given their books, assigned their lockers and will then be taken on
a tour of the school. They will leave for Camp Nominingue at 10:30 am.
The first day of regular classes will be Tuesday, September 4.

The school trips sponsored by Lower Canada College offer an exceptional opportunity for
students to explore and learn in a stimulating environment. This trip, however, is not without
certain risks, dangers, hazards and liabilities to all participants. These include, but are not limited
to, personal injury, death, property damage or loss, expense and other loss, delay or
inconvenience, and cancellation or curtailment. All participants in the LCC School trips are
required to accept these and other risks as a condition of their participation.

Purpose of the Trip
Orientation trip for all grade 7 students
Description of
Activities
Students will be involved in camp activities, including
canoeing, wall climbing, archery, camp crafts, nature walks
and initiative tasks. They will also be participating in large
group activities, some of which are done at night.

Fourteen teachers will accompany the students on this trip.
There will also be a qualified nurse on site at all times.
There will be two qualified lifeguards on duty at the beach
area for water activities.
Students will be exposed to insects and flora of the area. They
will be involved in activities that could result in minor abrasions
and/or cuts.

will be supervised through all activities. They will wear life
jackets when canoeing/kayaking and will use the buddy
system when swimming. They will be given a comprehensive
explanation of the camp and its environment. Staff will be on

INFORMED CONSENT – Trip to Camp Nominingue - 2012
I confirm my consent to my child’s participation in this trip and assume all risks inherent thereto.
Hence, I release and discharge Lower Canada College, its respective directors, officers, teachers,
employees and volunteers from any and all claims whatsoever arising or which may arise by
reason of my child’s participation in the School trip including, without limitation, any claims due
to any monetary loss or to any material or bodily injuries.
I release and discharge Lower Canada College, its respective directors, officers, teachers,
employees and volunteers from any and all claims for any liability that may arise due to material
or bodily injury suffered by my child during the trip, and agree to indemnify, hold harmless and
guarantee Lower Canada College and its respective directors, officers, teachers, employees and
volunteers from any claim that may arise due to property damage, material or bodily injury
suffered by any person, including my child, through his/her action or fault.
Should my child suffer injury or illness while on the School trip, a representative of Lower
Canada College accompanying my child will attempt to obtain, if possible, prior consent for
medical care from the person having parental authority. However, in case of emergency, the
undersigned hereby authorizes any representative of Lower Canada College accompanying the
child to authorize medical attention for the child as may be deemed appropriate by said
representative of Lower Canada College in the circumstances.
I agree to bear the costs of all medical care and procedures required by my child. The
undersigned also agrees to maintain appropriate medical insurance coverage for the child while
on the School trip. I hereby release Lower Canada College, its respective directors, officers,
teachers, employees and volunteers from any claim arising out of any medical treatment that my
child may require.
I acknowledge that should my child fail to keep and obey all rules and regulations prescribed by
Lower Canada College, its respective directors, officers and employees, while participating in the
School trip, Lower Canada College may, in its sole and absolute discretion, terminate my child’s
participation in the School trip and, if warranted, send my child home without refund for the cost
of the School trip. Any additional costs incurred by reason of the termination of my child’s
participation in the School trip and/or as a result of my child being sent home will be the
responsibility of the undersigned.
As Parent/Guardian, I have carefully read this Waiver and Informed Consent, understand
the terms and conditions outlined, and agree to be bound thereby. My child has the

LCC’S HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
FALL 2012 REGISTRATION
After completing its first year, the Study Zone program has proven to be a great success at LCC. The
feedback from parents and students has been positive and we are planning to offer an even better
service this fall. If you are interested in learning more about the program and/or to register for the fall
2012 term, please contact Mr. Mada Hoteit at your earliest convenience. Meetings will be scheduled
between August 15 and August 31 for both new and returning students to the program. During the
meetings, study plans for the year will be set and registration is completed.

Study Zone is a Homework Assistance Program that provides a structured, supportive environment for
Middle and Senior School students to complete their work. Students work with mentors to plan their
studies and their progress is assessed on a regular basis. There is also access to subject-specific help
should the need arise.
LCC’s Study Zone differs from other homework assistance programs in the following ways:
1. Students taking part in the program set personalized goals to promote success in the classroom.
The main objective of this program is to develop independent study habits and
organizational skills that will serve them throughout their educational experience.
2. The program takes place at LCC (modern languages wing) and therefore reduces transportation
and offers a safe and enclosed environment. The location and the controlled flexibility that are
inherently built into the program help to facilitate participation in co-curricular activities.
3. The coordinator and mentors are in tune with the specific expectations of LCC and work to
develop and foster communication with your child’s advisor and teachers.

Please note that there are only a limited number of spaces for the Study Zone program. Given that we
had a full registration last fall, we recommend that you reserve your spot early. Please contact Mr.
