UNIVERSITY of ŽILINA BACKGROUND

1953 - the origin of the today’s University of Žilina goes back to 1st
September 1953 to Prague - established under the name of College of
Railway Transport in Prague
•
1959 - changed its name to the College of Transport
•
1960 - relocation to Žilina
•
1980 - as a result of the increasing role of communications within the
curriculum and research orientation - College of Transport and
Communications

AIR TRAINING AND EDUCATION CENTRE

The Flight school of our University was established in 1974 as the only civil
school in former Czechoslovakia with the aim of providing civil pilot
training.
In 2002, according to JAR-FCL requirements, the Air Training and Education
Centre was established as an independent body of the university. Our
centre was approved by Slovak CAA as ATO SK/01.
Slovak republic is an EASA member and all the trainings are carried out
according to EU requirements.
At the present time we provide training within the university bachelor
study as well as for those interested in pilot training.
The Air Training and Education Centre provides flight training up to ATP
licence. The University of Zilina is a holder of the Certificate for Approved
Training Organisation (SK.ATO.01) approval in accordance EASA standards
EC No.1178/2011 Part-FCL and aircraft maintenance centre approval
(SK.MF.006, SK.MG.025).

The instructors of our University have long time experience with pilot training.
They are holders of ATPL(A) or CPL(A) licences with IR(A) and MEP(L). Some of
them are part time employed by Slovak Transport Authority, and four of them
are Flight Examiners of Slovak Transport Authority.

SYNTHETIC DEVICE FNPT II MCC
SK.ATO.01
FNPT II MCC has been developed specifically for the task of IR(A)/MEP and
MCC training. It is a cost-effective versatile flight training device featuring
dual dynamic control loading. The FNPT II MCC is configured as Beech King Air
B200 twin-turboprop engine aircraft and PA34 Seneca twin-piston engine
aircraft.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Flight school is based at the international Airport Zilina – Dolný Hričov, in the
north – western part of Slovakia. University owns the buildings where are
located all facilities for theoretical and practical flight training, the
maintenance and repair facilities, hangars.

Airport ŽILINA / LZZI
Airport Žilina is equipped with instrument approach capability used both for regular and
irregular air transport. Air navigation services are provided by Slovak Air Traffic Services
during published operating hours or on request. The airport meteorological office is
responsible for providing meteorological information.
