We specialise in Italian wine and pay extra attention to the south of Italy, due to its compatibility with our food - our extensive Sardinian selection being the highlight. We have a diverse range of local wine too, largely from our own state of New South Wales, as we love to showcase local produce. We continue to offer a range of Sardinian wine imported exclusively for us. This programme is made possible through our ongoing partnership with importers Enoteca Sileno, Trembath and Taylor, Godot Group and Negociants, and we thank them for their continued support. In 2015, we continue to offer a selection of rare wine from the cellar of a private collector - these wines have been aged in a natural underground cellar and are in the very best condition possible. For a quicker selection, you can turn to the Sardinian wine section, complete with maps and information on the history and varietals of each region. In the main list, Italian and Australian wines are listed together, by varietal, to assist in navigating through the list more easily. We have a large range of wine by the glass, as well as small and large bottles. If you require guidance, a member of our wine team will be happy to assist. Cin Cin! Although it may all seem a little new-age to some, it is worth noting that many of the best wines in the world from some of the most prestigious estates are made using these methods. Organic wines are produced from grapes grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. Biodynamic methods were developed by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner and wines are made using a wholistic and sustainable approach. Grapes are grown using the same core principle as organics, with the addition of special preparations added to the soil, which improves soil structure, nutrient and mineral levels, as well as plant growth and development. Recycling of farm and wine residues back into the vineyards improves overall sustainability of the land. Natural wines are more difficult to define, as there is no governing body set up to control production methods, resulting in various interpretations. They are generally made with ‘minimal intervention’, using natural yeasts, and minimal or no sulphur is added. Wine is often left on skins (both white and red) and there is no filtration, fining or adjusting. Natural wines look and taste a little different to ‘conventional’ wines, they will be darker in colour and cloudy, and will evolve dramatically in your glass. They are food friendly, vibrant and interesting though, so whilst not for everyone, they are worth trying. 3 Aperitif - 60ML 2004 Contini - Vernaccia di Oristano DOC Vernaccia di Oristano 1988 Contini - Vernaccia di Oristano Riserva DOC Vernaccia di Oristano NV Rallo ‘Soleras Riserva’ - Marsala Vergine DOC Local Blend MUSEUM RELEASE Sardinia MUSEUM RELEASE Sardinia AGED 20 YEARS Sicily 14 20 21 Our bitters and spirits are served on ice, or with your choice of Capi Soda, Tonic Water, Lemonade or Dry Ginger Bitters - 60ML Aperol Lombardy Campari - 45ML Lombardy Rosso Antico Emilia Romagna Pimms - 45ML England 11 10 11 ermouth - 60ML Punt e Mes Cinzano Rosso Cocchi Americano ‘Aperitivo’ Cocchi Americano ‘Vermouth di Torino’ 10 10 11 11 Lombardy Lombardy Piedmont Piedmont Vodka - 30ML Absolut Grey Goose 666 Sweden France Tasmania Gin - 30ML Plymouth Tanqueray No. 10 Hendricks Kangaroo Is. It is a unique region that has spent much of its history under Spanish rule - the Spanish influence remains in Sardinia’s food, culture and wine. The Phoenicians were Sardinia’s first foreign invaders and introduced winemaking to the island, but it was the Spanish, controlling the island from the 14th to 18th centuries, who contributed the most to Sardinia’s wine production. The climate is Mediterranean, with short, mild, wet winters and long, hot, dry summers. With rugged mountains and dry plains, soil types vary from sandy clays in the south, the granite of Gallura in the north, to alluvial, gravelly soils around Oristano in the west. Today Sardinia is home to a unique range of grape varieties, predominantly of Spanish origin. Previously known for producing bulk, fortified and ‘Meditazione’ wines (including the famous Vernaccia di Oristano from the west coast), Sardinia is now known for its high quality table wine from Vermentino, Cannonau and Carignano. Beyond these, lay an exciting range of lesser known varieties such as Nuragus, Torbato, Monica and Bovale, adding diversity and interest to the Sardinian range. Spumante e Frizzanti Sparkling wines are produced from a variety of local and international grapes in Sardinia (if only in fairly small quantities) and can be dry or sweet. Mesa, Vigne Surrau and Tenute Olbios both make a sparkling wine in the ‘Metodo Classico’ (Champagne method) with Sella e Mosca using the Charmat (Tank) method. 2006 Tenute Olbios ‘Bisso’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Vermentino NV Mesa ‘Gioiamia’ - Vino Spumante di Qualita Brut Vermentino-Chardonnay 2011 Vigne Surrau ‘Millesimato’ - Vino Spumante di Qualita Brut Vermentino 2012 Panevino ‘Incompiuto per furto d’uva’ - VDT Vermentino-Vernaccia-Trebbiano NV Sella e Mosca ‘Terre Bianche’ Brut - Alghero DOC Torbato 11 ORGANIC NATURAL Olbia, Olbia Sant Anna, Carbonia Arzachena, Olbia Nurri, Cagliari Sardinia 130 115 115 95 75 Vermentino Sardinia’s most important white varietal arrived on the island in the late 19 th century via Corsica. Thought to be a sub-variety of Malvasia, it is grown widely throughout Sardinia. Flavour characteristics include citrus, melon, fennel, peach, herb and honey, with floral notes and lemony acidity. The best examples are found in the granite soils of Gallura in the islands north-east, with Vermentino di Gallura being Sardinia’s only DOCG. 2012 2012 2013 2014 2013 2013 2013 2013 2013 2013 2013 2012 2013 2012 2007 2006 2013 2011 2006 2006 NV 2011 Olbios ‘Lupus in Fabula’ - Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG Jankara - Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG Tani ‘Taerra’ - Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Vigne Surrau ‘Branu’ - Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Vigne Surrau ‘Sciala’ - Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Contini ‘Tyrsos’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Mesa ‘Primo Bianco’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Capichera ‘Lintori’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Argiolas ‘Costamolino’ – Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Mesa ‘Giunco Piccolo’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 500ML Santadi ‘Cala Silente’ – Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 6Mura – Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Pala ‘I Fiori’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Pala ‘Stellato’ - Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Olbios ‘In Vino Veritas’ – Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Olbios ‘In Vino Veritas’ – Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Pala ‘Silenzi’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Vermentino-Nuragus Pala ‘Entemari’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Vermentino-Chardonnay-Malvasia Capichera ‘Santigaini’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Capichera ‘Vendemmia Tardiva’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Dettori ‘Renosu’ - Romangia IGT Vermentino-Moscato Dettori ‘Bianco’ - Romangia IGT ORGANIC Olbia, Olbia Calangianus, Olbia Monti, Olbia Arzachena, Olbia Arzachena, Olbia Cabras, Oristano NATURAL ORGANIC ORGANIC UNFILTERED NATURAL NATURAL 98 99 88 71 80 75 65 99 Sant Anna, Carbonia Arzachena, Olbia Serdiana, Cagliari 75 Sant Anna, Carbonia 65 Santadi, Carbonia 70 Giba, Cagliari 105 Serdiana, Cagliari 50 Serdiana, Cagliari 74 Sardinia 105 Sardinia 115 Serdiana, Cagliari 55 Serdiana, Cagliari 105 Arzachena, Olbia 350 Arzachena, Olbia 200 Sennori, Sassari 74 Sennori, Sassari 95 Nuragus Nuragus is Sardinia’s most planted varietal and is found mostly in Campidano and Cagliari. Nasco is grown only in the southern half of the island, and is usually made into sweet wine styles. It makes a robust and fruity dry wine, with musk, banana and pineapple flavours. Dry versions can be consumed with rich fish and white meat dishes. 2010 Argiolas ‘Iselis’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Serdiana, Cagliari 12 99 Semidano Semidano is an ancient white grape of Sardinia which dates back to the 14 th Century BC. It is a unique varietal which grows particularly well around the town of Mogoro, Oristano. Semidano is a lighter style wine whose aromatics evoke herbs such as thyme, rosemary, chamomile and liquorice root. It has a characteristic savoury taste, with fresh acidity. 2013 Cantina di Mogoro ‘Anastasia’ - Semidano di Mogoro DOC Mogoro, Oristano 68 Torbato Torbato is most likely a member of the Malvasia family and of Spanish origin; it is known as Tourbat in Southern France. Traditionally grown only around Alghero, in chalk rich white soil, today it is only produced by the Sella e Mosca estate, who make both sparkling and still versions. It makes a viscous and exotic wine, with creamy texture, pistachio and spicy fruit characters. Consume with bottarga, sea urchin, seafood and spicy dishes. 2014 Sella e Mosca ‘Terre Bianche’ - Alghero DOC 2011 Sella e Mosca ‘Thilion’ - Alghero DOC Torbato-Sauvignon Alghero, Sassari Alghero, Sassari 80 105 Vernaccia di Oristano / Granazza The name Vernaccia is derived from the Latin ‘Vernaculus’, which defines all that comes from a given place. Vernaccia di Oristano is unique to Sardinia and unrelated to Italy’s other Vernaccia’s - it may be indigenous, or was introduced by the Phoenecians. Vernaccia di Oristano is a historical wine, usually dry, made from over-ripe grapes in a similar style to Spanish Sherry. Wines are aged in a system similar to Sherry’s ‘solera’ where the wines will develop ‘flor’, but Vernaccia di Oristano is rarely fortified. These are complex wines, with deep colour and flavours of orange rind, dried apricot, roast hazelnut, tobacco, tea and winter honey. Granazza is the local name for the same grape around the area of Nuoro in the centre of the island. Contini ‘Karmis’ is made in a dry table wine style and is great with rich fish and white meat dishes. 1988 Contini - Vernaccia di Oristano Riserva DOC 500ML MUSEUM RELEASE 2004 Contini - Vernaccia di Oristano DOC MUSEUM RELEASE NV Contini ‘Antico Gregori’ - Vernaccia di Oristano DOC 375ML 2014 Cantina della Vernaccia ‘Terresinis’ – Valle del Tirso IGT Vernaccia-Vermentino 2012 Contini ‘Karmis’ - Bianco Tharros IGT 2010 Sedilesu ‘Perda Pinta’ - Barbagia IGT Off-Dry ORGANIC-UNFILTERED Cabras, Oristano Cabras, Oristano Cabras, Oristano Oristano, Oristano Cabras, Oristano Mamoiada, Nuoro 125 110 220 75 90 98 Malvasia Malvasia is of Greek origin (from the Peloponnese) and is thought to have been brought to Sardinia in the Byzantine era. Cannonau is grown all over the island, with the best examples coming from the area around Nuoro in central Sardinia. Medium to full-bodied in weight, wines have juicy, sweet raspberry and blackberry fruit, with hints of chocolate, warm spice and earth characters. With soft, fine tannins and low acidity, they can reach quite high levels of alcohol. Cannonau is great with suckling pig and game dishes - styles range from medium-bodied and soft to rich, supple and powerful. 2011 2010 2009 2013 2013 2012 2012 2012 2011 2011 2009 2011 2011 2008 NV 2006 2005 2005 Contini ‘Inu’ - Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC Sedilesu ‘Ballu Tundu’ - Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC ORGANIC-UNFILTERED Alberto Loi - Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC Contini ‘Tonaghe’ Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Su’Entu - Cannonau di Sardegna DOP Pala ‘I Fiori’ - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Argiolas ‘Costera’ – Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Cannonau-Carignano-Bovale Mesa ‘Primo Scurro’ - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Sedilesu ‘Mamuthone’ - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC ORGANIC-UNFILTERED Santadi ‘Noras’ - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Giovanni Montisci ‘Barrosu’ - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC ORGANIC Tani ‘Serranu’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Cannonau-Muristeddu-Merlot Vigne Surrau ‘Barriu’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Cannonau-Carignano-Cabernet Pala ‘S’Arai’ - Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Cannonau-Carignano-Bovale Dettori ‘Renosu’ - Romangia IGT NATURAL Dettori ‘Tuderi’ - Romangia IGT NATURAL Dettori ‘Tenores’ - Romangia IGT NATURAL Dettori ‘Dettori’ - Romangia IGT NATURAL Cabras, Oristano 125 Mamoiada, Nuoro 164 Cardedu, Ogliastra 120 Cabras, Oristano 88 Sanluri, Campidano 80 Serdiana, Cagliari 58 Serdiana, Cagliari 88 Sant Anna, Carbonia 65 Mamoiada, Nuoro 90 Santadi, Carbonia 98 Mamoiada, Nuoro 165 Monti, Olbia 98 Arzachena, Olbia 105 Serdiana, Cagliari 120 Sennori, Sassari 90 Sennori, Sassari 145 Sennori, Sassari 180 Sennori, Sassari 200 Argiolas ‘Turriga’ With the winemaking prowess of Sassicaia’s famed oenologist Giacomo Tachis, Argiolas Turriga has cemented itself as Sardinia’s premier wine. It has become the base of some of the countries most famous reds, including Sella e Mosca’s ‘Marchese di Villamarina’. 2007 Sella e Mosca ‘Marchese di Villamarina’ - Alghero DOC 2004 Sella e Mosca ‘Marchese di Villamarina’ - Alghero DOC 1500ML Alghero, Sassari Alghero, Sassari 195 350 Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ Santadi began it’s Sardinian wine legacy in the 1960’s, first growing grapes for local wineries and then moving into producing their own label in the 1980’s. Like Argiolas, they procured the wine making knowledge of Italy’s premier wine maker Giacomo Tachis and landed themselves international fame along with exceptional quality wines. The ‘Terre Brune’ is their flagship red with 95% Carignano and 5% Bovaleddu. The wine is bold and concentrated whilst showing finesse and restraint from the time spent in oak and in bottle. Dark fruits, spicy notes and an alluring nose will ensure you never forget this wine. 2010 2008 2008 2007 2006 2005 2003 2000 1998 Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC 1500ML Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC 375ML Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu Santadi ‘Terre Brune’ - Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC Carignano-Bovaleddu 15 Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia Santadi, Carbonia 210 325 130 250 250 300 320 360 360 Carignano Carignano is known as Carignan in France and Carinena in Spain, and probably arrived in Sardinia from Spain during the 14th century. Tignanello is the original ‘Super Tuscan’ wine, first produced in 1970 as a Chianti Classico Riserva (including white grapes and Canaiolo in the blend) and aged in French barrique. In 1971 it became a VDT when Cabernet was added and the white grapes were removed. Made from 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 2004 Antinori ‘Tignanello’ - Toscana IGT 2000 Antinori ‘Tignanello’ - Toscana IGT 1997 Antinori ‘Tignanello’ - Toscana IGT PRIVATE CELLAR PRIVATE CELLAR PRIVATE CELLAR Tuscany Tuscany Tuscany 390 360 425 Abruzzo Abruzzo Abruzzo Abruzzo 50 74 58 72 Montepulciano 2013 2013 2010 2014 Cielo ‘Kasaura’ - Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Zaccagnini - Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Zaccagnini ‘Chronicon’ - Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 375ml Zaccagnini ‘Ikebana’ – Novello Montepulciano d’Abruzzo IGT Corvina-Rondinella-Molinara + Blends 2009 2008 2008 2008 2004 2007 2012 2012 2012 2012 2010 2010 2009 Speri ‘Monte Sant’Urbano’ - Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC Masi ‘Costasera’ - Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC Tedeschi - Amarone della Valpolicella DOC Tedeschi - Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 375ML Quintarelli - Amarone della Valpolicella Ramano Dal Forno - Valpolicella Superiore DOC Speri - Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso DOC Speri ‘La Roverina’ - Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC Monte Dall’Ora ‘Saseti’ - Valpolicella Classico DOC Il Pignetto - Bardolino DOC Giovanna Tantini - Bardolino DOC Corvina-Rondinella-Merlot Masi ‘Campofiorin’ Ripasso - Rosso del Veronese IGT Masi ‘Campofiorin’ Ripasso - Rosso del Veronese IGT ORGANIC MUSEUM RELEASE MUSEUM RELEASE ORGANIC ORGANIC ORGANIC ORGANIC 2009 Freeman ‘Secco’ Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto Veneto 210 175 180 125 600 200 100 65 59 64 88 90 95 Hilltops 75 Puglia Puglia 72 55 Puglia 125 Puglia Puglia Puglia Puglia 125 200 52 175 185 Puglia Puglia 160 56 Negroamaro 2008 Mocavero ‘Puteus’ - Salice Salentino Riserva DOP Negroamaro-Malvasia 2012 Matane - Puglia IGT Susumaniello 2006 U’Cucci - Valle D’Itria IGT ORGANIC Nero di Troia 2008 1999 2011 2005 2004 Rivera ‘Il Falcone’ - Castel del Monte Riserva DOC Nero di Troia-Montepulciano Rivera ‘Il Falcone’ - Castel del Monte Riserva DOC Nero di Troia-Montepulciano Spagnoletti Zeuli ‘San Domenico’ - Castel del Monte DOC Rivera ‘Puer Apuliae’ - Castel del Monte DOC Rivera ‘Puer Apuliae’ - Castel del Monte DOC Puglia Primitivo / Zinfandel 2008 Cantele ‘Amativo’ - Salento IGT Primitivo-Negroamaro 2012 A Mano - Puglia IGT 28 Gaglioppo 2010 Ippolito 1845 ‘I Mori’ - Calabria IGT Gaglioppo-Cabernet Calabria 79 Friuli 80 Refosco 2013 Le Vigne di Zamò ‘Zamò Rosso’ - Venezia Giulia IGT Refosco-Cabernet-Merlot Merlot 2003 Tua Rita ‘Redigaffi’ - Toscana IGT 1995 Castello di Ama ‘L’Apparita’ - Toscana IGT Tuscany Tuscany 395 375 MUSEUM RELEASE Adelaide Hills Coonawarra Coonawarra 68 180 200 100 77 NATURAL Campania Campania Campania Basilicata Basilicata MUSEUM RELEASE MUSEUM RELEASE 2013 Alan and Veitch 1999 Petaluma 1991 Petaluma MUSEUM RELEASE Aglianico 2012 2012 2011 2011 2010 Feudi Di San Gregorio ‘Rubrato’– Irpinia Aglianico DOCG Antonio Caggiano ‘Tauri’ – Aglianico dell‘Irpinia DOC Aglianico Villa Matilde ‘Rocca dei Leoni’ - Campania IGP D’Angelo - Aglianico del Vulture DOC Elena Fucci ‘Titolo’ - Aglianico del Vulture DOC 72 99 180 Nebbiolo / Chiavennasca 1990 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2008 2005 2000 1997 1997 1990 1982 2000 1990 2012 2011 2011 2011 2011 2010 Terre del Barolo ‘Baudana’ - Barolo Riserva DOCG Paolo Scavino – Barolo DOCG Paolo Scavino ‘Canubi’ – Barolo DOCG Poderi Colla ‘Bussia’ – Barolo DOCG Conterno Fantino ‘Vigne Del Gris’ – Barolo DOCG Francesco Rinaldi & Figli ‘Le Brunate’ – Barolo DOCG Oddero ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ – Barolo DOCG Bruno Giacosa ‘A.A. For years he produced wine only for the family, but in 1968 the wine was released commercially under the VDT and then IGT regulation. In the late 1990’s it became the only wine in Italy to be awarded it’s own DOC.
