Requirements on
manufacturers
This standard sets out the minimum
safety requirements which safety
footwear manufacturers must
achieve for footwear intended for
use in workplace applications. This
also includes the quality of footwear
components such as thread, leather,
laces, hooks, eyelets and linings.

Impact and
compression
In all our safety footwear, both steel toe
caps and composite toe caps meet the
impact and compression requirements
of AS/NZS 2210.3:2009, providing
appropriate toe protection for the
majority of workplace environments.
Common injuries
Safety footwear must be fitted with
toecaps designed to protect against
impact levels of at least 200 joules,
and compression levels of at least 15kN.

Most toe injuries actually occur as a
result of no protective footwear being
worn at all.
Many foot injuries also occur in the
metatarsal area (between the mid-foot
and the toes), and to the sole or side
of the foot.

FOOTWEAR TIP
New safety boots should feel comfortable
right from the first fitting, without any
suggestion that they may need more
than just minimal wearing-in.
Fitting
While fitting, a useful test is to “tap” the
toe end onto the floor, which moves
the foot forward in the boot. Ideally you
should be able to fit a finger between
the heel and the boot. This test also
checks toe comfort against the toe cap.
When walking, the downward weight
on our feet is approximately 1.5 times
our body weight. During day to day
work, the body reacts naturally to try
and minimise the undesirable effects
of impacts and shocks. Our footwear
can play a very significant role in
further reducing these effects.
Selection factors
When selecting new boots, check all
the features offered. Do they make a
difference for you? Is the boot sufficiently
flexible? Does it have an adequately
wide base for surface grip? Walk within
the store before you buy – ideally on a
hard surface like a concrete floor. You
will quickly know if the boot is likely to
meet your expectations.

Weather-proofing
Premium full-grain leather uppers

the effects of shocks and impacts.
Removable shock-absorbent insoles can
provide additional underfoot cushioning.
They offer the convenience of being
removable for cleaning, and can be
replaced as needed, or substituted with
customised prescription insoles.

SHOE CONVERSION CHART
To further assist comfort, some styles
incorporate a stabilising shank which
adds rigidity under the arch to assist
the boot to bend at the toes rather
than under the arch.
Inside-boot comfort is often enhanced
by the use of a breathable and
bacteria-inhibiting moisture wicking
lining, which draws perspiration away
from the foot.

waterproof and breathable booty is
inserted inside the boot upper. The
extremely durable booty membrane

The right fit plus good shock
