Seattle Home Show 2 Offers An Inside Look at Your Favorite
Seattle Home Show 2 Offers An Inside Look at Your Favorite Restaurant Chefs at Work
Free cooking demonstrations by some of the leading Seattle-area culinary experts
Ever wonder how that meal at your favorite restaurant was created? Now you can find out first hand at
Seattle Home Show 2 with its Chef Series, which features cooking demonstrations on the Viking Cooking
Stage (at the SE corner of the arena floor) by some of the leading chefs in the Seattle region. Chefs from
The Hunt Club at the Sorrento Hotel, icon Grill, Salty’s (both Alki and Redondo Beach), FAR EATS and
Ray’s Boathouse are among those who will be sharing their secrets to creating their favorite recipes.
Chefs scheduled to appear include:
Friday, October 5 at Noon – Dan Gilmore, executive chef,
The Hunt Club at Sorrento Hotel. Gilmore brings more than
24 years of experience to his position at the Sorrento Hotel.
Since the ’90s, Gilmore has built much of his reputation by
working with the best chefs in the country at restaurants all over
the West Coast, most recently serving as Executive Chef at
Palisade. “My culinary concept for the Hunt Club expresses a
whimsical and playful experience. It speaks of looking back at the past, a nod towards tradition, but
refreshing our cuisine by keeping an eye on the future,” says Gilmore.
Friday, October 5 at 2PM – Salty’s – Paolo Carey-DiGregorio, Executive
Chef for Salty's on Alki Beach. From an early age Paolo has gravitated to
cooking and as an adult made his way through many kitchens in seattle. In 2004,
Paolo moved quickly from Salty's on Alki wood-oven cook position to leadership
roles as sous chef, chef de cuisine and naturally and deservedly to executive chef
today. Paolo revels in our local bounty. In his words, "Our access to premier
seasonal ingredients is awe inspiring!" while chef Paolo is influenced by
mediterranean and asian flavors, his heart is entirely northwest.
Saturday, October 6 at Noon – Nick Musser, icon Grill. A Boise boy, Nick
moved to the Seattle area in 1986 to continue his music education (he still plays
viola). To pay for school, Nick started working in the restaurant industry and has not
looked back, serving in a variety of progressively responsible positions including sous chef at McCormick
& Schmick's and McCormick's Fish House, head chef at the Yarrow Bay Beach Cafe and as chef
d'cuisine at the Flying Fish before becoming executive chef at the icon Grill, where he oversees kitchens
and menus at the icon Grill and at two Zephyr Grill locations: Kent, WA and Livermore, CA.. He is a true
giver and gets involved with many fundraising events, including Cooking with Class, FareStart and the
Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Saturday, October 6 at 2PM –Gabe Cabrera, executive chef, Salty’s at
Redondo Beach. Gabriel came to Salty's with 26 years' experience as an
executive chef in the food industry. Before arriving at Salty's he held an
Executive Sous Chef position at Palisade restaurant in Seattle under
Executive Chef John Howie. It was there that Cabrera perfected his Plank
Cooking and designed many original recipes. Known as “Chef Gabe" to
family, friends and Salty’s, Cabrera has a following for his Market Sheet
Specials at Redondo Beach. He is often asked to talk about them on radio
and demonstrate them at special events such as Cooking with Class, where
each year he receives a standing ovation for his tasty dishes.
Saturday, October 6 at 4PM – Geogy Chacko, executive chef, FAR
EATS. Geogy Chacko is the owner and chef of FAR-EATS, a finedining Indian restaurant with a difference. Gone are the familiar names of
Indian dishes; gone also are predictable wines. Instead you will find
Geogy inspired marinades, ingredients, and sauces paired with an
exciting list of carefully selected wines and beers with over 50% from
Washington State. His wide field of experience enables him to
masterfully blend the flavors and techniques of his native India with the
fresh and sustainable ingredients found here in the Northwest.
Sunday, October 7 at Noon – Chef Seth Prigg – Ray’s
Boathouse. Chef Seth began his career in food at Ray’s
Boathouse in the year 2000, honing his skills in the kitchen and
gaining extensive knowledge of Northwest seafood and fine
dining preparations. An opportunity to work as Sous Chef led Chef Seth to Union Square Grill for one
year. He later returned to Ray’s in 2007 where he has held the position of Sous Chef ever since. Chef
Seth has greatly contributed to the development of the Boathouse Dinner menu where his passion for
fresh and seasonal ingredients is clearly evident.
Sunday, October 7 at 2PM – Chef Michael Hillyer – Daniel’s Broiler at Lake
Union. Chef Michael Hillyer started with Schwartz Brothers Restaurants in July
of 1996 as Chef at Benjamin's on Lake Union and then went on to become the
opening Chef at Daniel's Broiler on Lake Union in September of 1999. Mike then
moved over to become Executive Chef at Daniel's Broiler Bellevue Place,
supervising kitchen operations at one of the top 100 grossing independent
restaurants in the United States. He is now Executive Chef at Daniel’s Broiler on Lake Union. Daniel's
Broiler continues to garner accolades from both local and national media as a great steakhouse.
