How to Prepare the Building Site and Anchor the Building • Construct foundation (concrete slab or wooden platform) and anchor base channels before assembling your building. Foundation and anchoring materials are not included. • Make sure that your building complies with your local building codes. • Select a location that provides suitable drainage, ample room to erect the building, and an area that can be levelled properly. • Decide on the type of foundation. • Foundation must be complete before unpacking and assembly can begin. • In selecting the site, allow approximately 5' (1.52m) of clearance on all sides and 8’ (2.44m) more than the height of the building for assembly. Concrete slab Exterior dimensions of 10' x 8' (3.05m x 2.44m) building: Roof Width: 122 1/2" (311.2cm) Roof Depth: 99 15/16" (253.9cm) Height: 86 3/8" (219.4cm) Wall Width: 118 3/16" (300.2cm) Wall Depth: 97 11/16" (248.2cm) 123'' (312.42cm) 81 1/2'' (207.01cm) 41 1/2'' (105.41cm) 99'' (251.46cm) Slab should be 4" (10.16 cm) thick. To provide the best support for your building and to ensure that the corners are square, the slab must be completely level and free of bumps and ridges. The two smaller panels and the groove for the Door Sweep DS are on the bottom. When the Hinge Plates DH are installed the prongs on the Hinge Plate DH must face outward. THE WINCHESTER 35 Install the Door Sweep DS onto each door by gently tapping the sweep into the grooves on the door bottom. Important: Do not install Door Sweep DS until you have painted the doors. a Before you attach the Hinge Plate DH please identify the correct position of the hinge using diagram a . The correct position of the hinge for the left door is (a) with the etched crown right-side up and facing you and (b) with the larger opening of the beveled screw holes facing you. The correct position of the hinge for the right door is (a) with the etched crown upside-down and facing you and (b) with the larger opening of the beveled screw holes facing you. Line up Hinge Plates DH so that they are parallel with the back of the door frame as in diagram b . Make sure that the two prongs are facing outward. Insert the two outside screws first to ensure the hinge is properly aligned. 36 b 37 Position left door as shown. Tap Door Pins HP in both top and bottom hinges with hammer. Repeat to install right door. 38 Install Door Handles HL in predrilled holes with curved end of handle facing outside of building. 39 Next, install Astrigal AST on left door of the building. Position Astrigal AST on inside of left door so that the screw locator holes on the Astrigal AST are positioned on the left door and the positioning fin on the Astrigal AST fits tightly against edge of left door. Mark hole locations on left door while holding Astrigal AST in place. Drill 1/16” diameter holes, making sure that the drill does not penetrate the exterior side of the door. Install Astrigal AST with #10 x 3/4” screws provided. 14 Astrigal Door THE WINCHESTER 40 Before attempting to align doors, while inside the building, insert a screw in the first hole of the Base Channels (AL5 & AL6) at the Door Jambs (DJ1 & DJ2). If doors are uneven, refer to step 41. Note: The door hinges have a special mechanism that keeps the door locked into the hinge even if pins are removed. Do not remove the hinges. Door Jamb Door Install Screw Base Channel 41 Door Alignment Tips 1. Before you install screws in the Slope Wall Caps (roof/wall line), you must align the doors. DO NOT install screws unless the doors are lined up properly. 2. Ensure the doors are not upside down. The Door Sweep groove must be at the bottom. 3. If you have installed your doors and you are experiencing problems, as in Figure A, use the following instructions to correct: To obtain an even vertical gap between the doors, i.e. the doors are touching at the top or the bottom, gently push the building back and forth, not side to side. To obtain an even horizontal gap between the doors and the Door Lintel, i.e. the top of one door is higher than the other, gently push the shed side to side. You will notice that the doors shift as you push the building. Figure A Door Juts Outward 4. If you have installed your doors and you are experiencing problems as in Figure B, use the following instructions to correct: In Figure B, the right door does not line up properly with the left door because the bottom of the right door appears bent inward. To correct this, gently push on the building at the top of the front right corner (at the point shown in Figure B) until the right door is aligned properly. If the left door appears bent inward, correct the alignment by pushing on the top left corner of the building. 5. Complete your assembly by installing a few screws at a time. For example, install two or three screws and check your doors. Repeat this procedure until all the screws are installed. 6. If you are still experiencing problems, call the 1-800 consumer service line for assistance. 15 Door Juts Inward Figure B THE WINCHESTER 43 Install the remaining screws in the Door Lintel LN1 (#10 x 1/2" (1.27cm)) and front Fascia Gables (FG1 & FG2) (#10 x 3/4" (1.9cm)). Have one person push the Lintel upward at the centre so as the Lintel bends upward slightly while the remaining screws are installed in the Lintel. 42 Screw Installation Inside the building, beginning in each corner, secure rear Fascia Gable FG with screws to back wall panels. Pre-drilled holes should line up where the panels are joined. It is helpful to have one person on the outside of the building pushing down on the Fascia Gable FG while the second person inserts the screw from the inside. Install 3 screws into both front Fascia Gables FG beside door opening while one person holds the Fascia Gables FG down from the outside. IMPORTANT: Be sure to check door alignment several times during screw installation to ensure building has not moved out of alignment. If it has, realign and resume installation of screws. First, install lower screws on Slope Wall Caps (SC1 & SC2) into side wall panels. Next, inspect side wall to ensure it is visually straight from the front corner to the back corner along the length of the building. If your wall is not straight, correct it by pushing the wall inwards or outwards accordingly. Upon confirmation, install screws into the top of Slope Wall Caps (SC1 & SC2) into the roof panels. 44 Finish by installing a screw at the bottom of all panels - front, back and sides into Base Channels on inside only (Note: holes in exterior of Base Channels are for drainage only). DO NOT INSTALL SCREWS IN THESE DRAINAGE HOLES. 45 Mark hole locations on inside of door while Slide Lock LK is held into the hole provided in the Door Lintel LN1. Drill 3 holes, 1/16" diameter into the door (make sure that the drill does not penetrate the exterior side of the door). Install Slide Lock LK with #10 x 3/4” (1.90cm) screws provided. NOTE: With Astrigal AST in place you may need to position Slide Lock LK over top of Astrigal AST in order to line up Slide Lock LK with pre-drilled hole in Lintel LN1. 46 16 THE WINCHESTER 47 48 Cover roof ends with Roof Fascia Caps FC1. Make sure Roof Fascia Caps FC1 are flush with roof panels at each end. Snap Roof Fascia Cap Covers FCC in place where the Roof Fascia Caps FC1 meet. 49 Install screws, alternating top and bottom predrilled holes in Roof Fascia Caps FC1. 50 Insert Ridge Beam End Caps REC in front and back, and install screws. 51 Shelving Instructions (Optional) Please make sure that all shelving and support screws (not provided with building) are installed into the seam between panels. 17 THE WINCHESTER Royal Outdoor Products Vinyl Storage Buildings 10- Year Non-Transferable Limited Warranty Royal Outdoor Products Co. 100B Royal Group Crescent Woodbridge, Ontario Canada, L4H 1X9 Royal Outdoor Products Co. With proper maintenance your vinyl storage building will exceed your expectations for years to come. Cleaning: It is recommended that you clean your storage building at least twice a year to prevent a build up of dirt. Most often a heavy rain is sufficient in cleaning it or you may want to wash your building with a standard garden hose. If neither rain nor hosing does a satisfactory job, follow these instructions. Cleaning your new building is quite easy and the following cleaners can be utilized Simply Green™, Fantastic™, Soft Scrub™, Lestoil™, Murphy’s Oil Soap™, Windex™, and Tilex™, you may also consider a mixture of 30% vinegar and water solution to use as a cleaner. Use a soft cloth or an ordinary long handled soft bristle brush to wash. Avoid using any chlorine-based cleaner, nail polish remover laundry, detergent, furniture polish cleaner, and other cleaners containing organic solvents which could effect the surface appearance of the building. For stains such as pencil, paint, oil stains and tar, use a mildly abrasive cleaner with the understanding that any abrasive material could have a deleterious effect on the surface appearance. Caution: Any material, which covers up the vinyl, may cause serious damage and is not covered by the warranty. Remove leaves, dirt, sap or excessive snow which may accumulate on the roof, do not place any lattice, vines, tar, shingles, tarps or other materials such as paint onto the surface of the vinyl. Important: Any structural modifications to the building will void the product warranty. Always refer to your product manual for guidance. If you require additional assistance contact 1-877-GO-ROYAL. Attach serial number sticker from plastic crate cover here for future reference.
