No DISCUSSION 1.0 WELCOME 1.1 Welcome and Apologies The Chair opened the meeting and welcomed all members present. 2.0 MINUTES The Minutes of the previous AGM, held at the Brisbane Convention Centre on 22 2.1 September 2012, were confirmed on the motion of John Watsford, 3.0 CHAIR’S REPORT In her report, the Chair referred to: 3.1 • Aware of Work Now 1 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Steep learning Curve Slow Progress on some incentives Website Up and running Expanding Profile NZ & Aust Successful CORE 2012 o 600 Delegates came to o Speakers from all over the world Strength in Local committees Corporate Program Membership Development Sub Committees o Wheel Rail Interface will be discontinued. Focus on o Quarterly newsletter o Track and Signal part of membership Membership base has grown, more than 1500 members now. AWARDS o Graduate o Past Graduate o Award Scholarship $10k 27 Attended the Light Rail Study Tour NEXT 12 Months o Relationship with EA o Communications with RTSA membership with EA o Need to identify key interfaces with Membership New Logo Rolled out The Chair’s report was accepted by the meeting. 4.0 CORRESPONDENCE The Acting Secretary referred to the correspondence, which has been placed on 4.1 the website. Majority of the correspondence was Awards related. 5.0 Member Ship report 5.1 Martin Baggott reported on the membership. • Stability in Initiatives including the RTSA Update newsletter, website, and Corporate Supporters. • Corporate Supporters role is to engage and get ideas and support the industry o Currently 11 signed up with single RTSA member contact as portal o Contacts read out for the 11 o >1500 members 6.0 FINANCIAL REPORT The Treasurer reported that the Society is in a good financial situation. 6.1 • Income $425K (330 from Core 100 from membership) • Total expenditure $208K • $707 in coffers available • Chapters well below budget • Forward Plan has been created for next 5 years 7.0 ELECTIONS 2 Special interest groups there are 9 Nominations. No further nominations were recived from the floor. The committee wil be reviwing nominations received and announce successful candidates in the new year. . 8.0 General Business 8.1 • Issues with Calendar App were raised • Video Link to RTSA website from EA. 9.0 CLOSE In closing the meeting, Katharina thanked members for attending and invited 9.1 them to attend the next AGM, to be held in conjunction with AusRAIL 2014, to be held in Perth in November 2014. Rail Scholarship The $10K Rail Scholarship was presented to Amanda Lu 7.1 3 ATTACHMENT 4.0 www.rtsa.com.au www.rtsa.org.nz RTSA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY’S REPORT Prepared By: Darrien Welsby, Executive Secretary RTSA November 2015 1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this Report is to summarise the principal items of correspondence that have been received and dispatched from November 2014 to November 2015, being the period between Annual general Meetings of the RTSA. 2.0 SUMMARY Accompanying this Report, as Appendices 1 & 2, are summaries of the principal correspondence, involving other bodies and individuals that has been received and dispatched during the period in question. These summaries include items of correspondence that have been dealt with by the Executive Secretary and, additionally, other items that have been originated by or attended to, other members of Executive Committee and/or Chapter Chairs. The total number of inwards and outgoing correspondence is noted below. AWARDS SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT The RTSA Awards Sub-Committee administers the RTSA s programme on behalf of the Executive Committee. Details of the awards programme can be found on the RTSA Website. The following awards have been made in 2015: 1. 2015 Individual Award Four Nominations were received. The winner of the 2015 Individual Award is Professor Buddhima Indraratna of the University of Wollongong. The award was presented to Professor Indraratna at the combined Australasian Rail Association and NSW RTSA Chapter Annual dinner in Sydney on 8th October. 2. 2015 Graduate Engineer Award. Two nominations were received, with the winner of the 2015 Graduate Engineer Award being: Jennifer Aiton, a Civil Engineer, who formerly worked for the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia and who is now with WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff in the UK. Jennifer was also the winner of the RTSA Engineering Student Thesis Award in 2013. 3. 2015 Young Railway Engineer Award Five nominations were received. The joint winners of the Young Railway Engineer Award are: David Law, a Senior Rail Engineer and Project Manager with GHD in Brisbane Esther Warren, a Civil Project Engineer with John Holland in Melbourne Again, full registration of CORE2016 is part of the reward. The appropriate presentation will be made at the Conference Gala Dinner. 3. Railway Project Award Railway Project Awards are only presented biennially in CORE years, and thus no award is being made this year. 4. 2015 Railway Engineering Student Thesis Nine nominations were received, of which five were shortlisted for detailed review. The Joint winners of the 2015 Railway Engineering Student Thesis Award are: Ian Mackay for his University of Queensland Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering thesis: “Damage modelling of Rail Squats in ANSYS Finite Element Package” David McKenzie for University of Sydney Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) thesis: “High Voltage Rectifier Differential Protection”. . RTSA 2015 AGM Awards Sub-Committee Report 26 November 2015 2 5. 2015 Post Graduate Thesis Award Three nominations were received. The winner of the 2015 Post Graduate Thesis Award is: Hossein Askarinejad for his Doctor of Philosophy in Railway Engineering thesis Central Queensland University:” Studies on the Track Input to the Response of In-service Insulated Rail Joints” A runner up award was made to Mojibul Sajjad for his Central Queensland University Master of Engineering (Rail Road and Railway Transportation) thesis: Friction Management and Top of Rail Lubrication” 6. 2015 Annual Rail Scholarship Three nominations were received. The winner of the 2015 Annual Rail Scholarship is Ryan Trevaskis, SCADA Control and Indications Officer at Metro Trains Melbourne 7. 2015 Australasian Rail Industry Awards Young Rail Engineer Award Eleven nominations were received and five were shortlisted for the second year that this award, which is sponsored by the RTSA, has been run. The winner of the 2015 Australasian Rail Industry Awards Young Rail Engineer Award is Calvin Li, a Project Manager at Metro Trains Melbourne, who received his award at the Australasian Railway Awards Dinner in Sydney on 9 July. 8. Life Membership of the RTSA A recommendation by the ASC for Mr John Dring to receive Life Membership of the RTSA was unanimously approved by the RTSA Executive Committee in March 2015. Mr Dring has elected to receive his award at the CORE 2016 Gala Dinner.
