We hope that you enjoy the presentation of images, prints and digital, that have been selected from the entries entered. Thank you to the authors who have supported this Exhibition and for providing our judges with excellent images to select from. It is pleasing to see some new names amongst the awards. Overall the entries received were down on previous year’s with the exception of the Panels, where we had an increase, with a wide range of subject matter. Yardley Photographic Society is pleased to announce that we have obtained BPE status for our future Exhibitions and hope that you will support us on our new venture. The quality of the entry was of a very high standard was most enjoyable to look at. I would like to congratulate the winners and commiserate with those who weren't successful, but please keep trying. Dave Deeming LRPS BPE2 It was pleasing to see the diverse subject matter of the panels, from nature to contemporary and creative and all subjects in between, a majority of colour but also some very good monochrome prints and the fact that most showed thought about content and layout. It was difficult to choose between the top panels, in fact I considered the standard so high that I awarded an extra commended or two..The winner a panel of sport images I considered showed originality and the ribbon was awarded to a natural history panel of which there were also several first class examples in this genre. I would like to thank the exhibition committee members for making the judging day go so smoothly and the first class hospitality. A special mention also to Christine McGill in her first year as Exhibition Secretary, a job well done. Malcolm Ranieri FRPS, MPAGB, BPE5 The general standard of the submitted images (both print and digital) was quite good, although some of the digital creative were a little overpowering and difficult to interpret. Marginally, the prints were of a higher standard than the digital. The photographs chosen for the exhibition show a good variation in subject matter and are of a sufficiently high standard to produce excellent viewing. The award winning images were, as expected, examples of high quality exhibition photography. Tony Pioli ARPS, ABPE 6 It was a pleasure to be one of the Selectors for the Yardley Exhibition this year. I found the subjects of the prints was variable and the quality was very good. It was disappointing that the entry this year was down in numbers. It was quite a decision to select the winners in both the mono and colour sections but I think that the end results were justified. I did find however the digital images to be a little disappointing as the quality was not as good as the prints, but again I think we managed to select the best in this section. I would like to thank Yardley for a really interesting day and for making me so welcome. David Venables DPAGB BPE3* Firstly I would like to thank the members of Yardley Photographic Society for the hospitality shown to my wife and myself on the Nature Judging day. Although the number of entries for the nature print section was slightly down from last year (this reflects a current trend in most exhibitions) the overall standard was high. The range of subjects (due to photographers travelling to more remote areas of the world, and with the new digital technology) produced some stunning images. The print quality was excellent but a few images had been over saturated producing some unnatural colours. The DPI entries of course were up from last year again reflecting the current trend. There was a diverse subject range, and the quality was a high on most images projected. A few images unfortunately, although pictorially exceptional, had been taken in a captive situations or heavily manipulated and should not have been entered into the nature section. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and wish Yardley Photographic Society every success with their forthcoming Exhibition Day, which I hope all the successful exhibitors will attend.
