To acquire a firearm you will need a firearms license and a permit to acquire (PTA) for each firearm you intend to acquire. The cost of obtaining a permit to acquire (PTA) a firearm is $20 ($10 for the permit and $10 for the cost of registering the firearm in the name of the holder). 6. Lodging Your Application 1. The Firearms Permit Application form and the Legitimate Reason form are interactive forms. Click on the links above and the forms can be completed electronically. Once completed, print the forms (ensure all sections are completed) and forward the completed forms and any applicable supporting documentation to: Firearms Registry, Locked Bag 1, Murwillumbah NSW 2484. 4. If you do not currently possess a NSW Firearms license you need to complete a Firearms Safety Awareness Course. The NSW PTA is valid for 3 months. Expired PTAs cannot be used to purchase a paintball gun. The PTA application requires that you state the make and model of the paintball gun you intend to acquire. 10. You can change the make and model part of the PTA at a later date, so what you write on the PTA does not lock you into buying that particular paintball gun type. 3 QLD Category A Firearms licence required A license costs $79.50 for the application plus an extra $26.25 for each year you want to have the license (maximum of 5 years). A 5 year license is $210.75.
