Processing Map Database Pavement Profile Scanner (ViaPPS) Drivers workplace The Pavement Profile Scanner is used for detailed measuring and inspecting a whole range of surfaces. It is used for inspecting and measuring the pavement profile, such as rut depth, unevenness, cross fall, height of the road shoulder etc. The system will also include crack detection and quality of road markings. In order to achieve this, ViaTech employs safe, unique, high-resolution class 3B laser technology in its scanner product. The Pavement Profile Scanner can measure the entire width of the road with a great degree of accuracy and resolution. The Pavement Profile Scanner is often combined in ViaStudio with The Digital Photo System (ViaPhoto) presenting high resolution images. The scanner is made as a mobile unit that can be conveniently mounted and dismounted on any vehicle. ViaTech’s integrated Inertial Motion Unit will automatically compensate for the motion of the vehicle. This means that the Pavement Profile Scanners does not require a custom made vehicle in order to operate. The high resolution of the scanner provides increased operational safety since the vehicle of your choice can operate at normal traffic speed. Drivers operator interface Office program for analyzing measured data All measuring and inspection data will be stored and marked with the road data as well as the exact position from the GPS, trip position or both. The Pavement Profile Scanner (ViaPPS) has the following accuracy: • 600 measuring points over the width of the road • 16 cm between each scan at a vehicle speed of 80 km/h • vertical accuracy +/-1,2 mm • horizontal accuracy +/-2,0 mm • measurement width 4 meters Pavement Profile Scanner detecting road marking Laser scanner Pavement Pavement Profile Scanner princip Pavement Profile Scanner detecting rutting Texture Scanner (ViaTSC) The Texture Scanner is measuring the pavement texture with a high degree of accuracy. By combining the height information from the texture Scanner with the Inertial Motion Unit the International Roughness Index (IRI) is calculated. The Texture Scanner has the following accuracy: • one line measurement • vertical accuracy 0,045 mm • 0.35 mm between each point at a vehicle speed of 40 km/h Digital Photo System (ViaPhoto) ViaTech’s Digital Photo System is mainly used for inspection and maintenance planning of road, rails and airport runways. Maintenance planning is based on the information gathered about pavement surface and vegetation growth as well as the status of such factors as all signs, markings and safety barriers. The Digital Photo System is also highly suitable to document sub suppliers’ maintenance work and the drivers’ view distance. The Digital Photo System automatically produces high quality digital images from a vehicle of your choice. All pictures are marked with information such as road data and time. The user interface includes a measuring device “ruler” for horizontal and vertical distances. Both GPS and trip positions can be noted by the system. In addition, spoken messages, comments and other necessary information can be recorded while driving. Information from other measuring systems, like Pavement Profile measurements, Texture measurement, Friction measurements etc, is integrated into the ViaStudio user interface of this product. Additional information, such as temperature, humidity etc. can be included. The system allows data to be analysed at a later stage and our viewing program permits the information to be shared between several users simultaneously. The two cameras installed in the vehicle ViaPhoto has the following characteristics: • the recommended minimum time between pictures is 0,5 seconds. • the normal shutter time outdoor is 1/5000 sec. At 80 km/h the vehicle travels only 5 mm while the picture is taken, ensuring that even the smallest details are visible. • in tunnels the normal shutter time is 1/25 sec allowing sufficient information to be recorded. This precision is available with normal dipped headlights, which means no disruption to the flow of traffic. • the horizontal and vertical ruler resolution: 1cm at a distance of 10 m. ViaPhoto viewing program Drivers operator interface ViaFriction ViaFriction is a one-wheel trailer, measuring the degree of friction of the pavement surface. ViaFriction is developed for both winter and summer conditions. A unique measuring technology has been developed for ViaFriction, continuously measuring the real friction in between the tire and the road surface. The technology gives stable results in various conditions, reducing the need for calibrations. ViaFriction has few moving parts. This ensures that the unit is almost maintenance free. ViaFriction is using an electric break in order to break the measuring wheel. The generated power is used to keep the unit free from snow and ice during winter conditions. Measurements during summer conditions requires a water film in between the road surface and the test tire. ViaFriction units delivered for both summer and winter conditions will include a system to apply the water film. The watering system includes a water tank in the back of the vehicle. ViaFriction and the water tank can also be installed on a trailer allowing more water to be stored. ViaFriction will run freely behind the vehicle during transport distances, but the unit may also be fitted with a device lifting the unit off the road. ViaFriction is suitable for all type of cars Electrical connection between the car and ViaFriction ViaFriction without the lifting device ViaFriction has the following characteristics: • weight approximately 60kg • fixed and variable slip measurements • watering system • optional lifting device • maximum measurement speed, road version: 80 km/h • maximum measurement speed, airport version: 130 km/h The Friction data is analyzed in ViaPlot analyzing program ViaFriction with lifting device and support wheels for balancing the device prior to installation on the vehicle Drivers operator interface Friction Measuring System (ViaTrip µ) Drivers operator interface ViaTrip µ is a low cost Friction Measuring System, measuring the degree of friction of the pavement surface, in all winter conditions. The Friction Measuring System is an extension to the Distance Acquisition System. It can be installed in a standard car without any additional mechanical components. The car is then equipped with the necessary sensors, display and data logging equipment. The driver follows a procedure using the car brakes to initialise the logging of the friction data. If the correct procedure is not followed, the system will automatically warn the driver and the measured data will be cancelled. This ensures a quality control of the friction measurement. All data can then be sent from the vehicle to a server. The server contains programs for sharing data with several users simultaneously. Distance Acquisition System (ViaTrip) The Distance Acquisition System unit performs accurate measurements of the actual distance driven by the vehicle. It can be installed in a standard car without any additional mechanical components. A distance calibration procedure ensures the accuracy of the system. The system obtains the distance information using a tachometer. Additional sensors, such as GPS, temperature sensor and humidity sensor can also be included. The Distance Acquisition System has a simple easy to learn user interface. Drivers operator interface ViaStudio ViaStudio integrates several applications such as ViaPPS, ViaTSC, ViaPhoto etc, into a single application. ViaStudio has a consistent and simple user interface that makes it easy to operate several measurement systems simultaneously. ViaStudio may be operated by use of a touch screen. This ensures that the operator keep his focus on the traffic. ViaStudio monitors all the subsystems and sensors and gives the operator feedback if any errors are detected. Drivers operator interface 10 Data Distribution System (ViaLink) Antenna Camera System Sensor Collection/ Control Texture Scanner Internal Motion Unit System installation princip Profile Scanner The Data Distribution System’s task is to share data from measurement systems in the vehicle with the relevant groups. Examples of such shared information are the friction measurements. The logged measurements are tagged with information from the trip sensor and verified with the GPS. The information is then sent to a central server using mobile communication. This information is encrypted and compressed in order to achieve a fast and failsafe transfer. The central server immediately distributes the data using standard email to one or more recipients. This dramatically reduces the time taken for the friction measurement results to reach the road maintenance authorities, allowing an immediate response to sub-standard road conditions.
