THE 34th HEART OF OHIO TOLE CHAPTER CONVENTION
Hats Off to Painting!!!
Dear Fellow Painters,
We are looking forward to presenting our Convention, “HATS OFF TO
PAINTING” which runs from August 11th through August 16th, 2014. It is
our hope that you will come and see all the different hats we wear while
planning our convention for you. If our hats could talk, they would be eager
to tell you about all the wonderful classes we have chosen. We feel that we
have some of the finest decorative painting educators coming to Columbus.
We invite you to join us at the Arena Hyatt Regency Hotel and the Greater
Columbus Convention Center where all the excitement will be found. We have
planned three special events to begin the convention. The latest techniques and
newest mediums will be presented to instruct and challenge you.
I also want to remind you that each night you stay in out host hotel room block will
earn you the opportunity to participate in the daily prize drawing.
Your friend,
Karen

BORED?? HERE’S SOMETHINGS TO DO
Market, home to dozens of independent merchants
offering ethnic foods and gourmet groceries.
Central Ohio is packed with fun attractions, including
the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, voted the No. 1
Zoo in America by USA Travel Guide; and COSI, the
No. 1 science center in the country for families
according to Parents magazine.
At Easton Town Center, a shopping center just 15
minutes from downtown, you’ll find Macy’s,
Nordstrom and hundreds of specialty stores, along
with one of the city’s best collections of restaurants
and entertainment venues. Head 30 minutes north to
Polaris Fashion Place, which has six anchors
including Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s and
J. C. Penney’s.
Other can’t-miss downtown attractions include the
Columbus Museum of Art and Franklin Park
Conservatory and Botanical Garden, where you can
walk among hundreds of butterflies during Blooms &
Butterflies (call for information at 614-715-8000).
Visit www.experiencecolumbus.com to make sure
you experience the best of Columbus during the
HOOT convention.
EXHIBIT SALES FLOOR
With a lively arts and entertainment scene, great shopping
and professional sports, there’s always something fun
happening in Ohio’s capital city. That’s especially true during
the HOOT convention.
The HOOT Exhibit Sales Floor features vendors
offering everything a painter, designer or crafter
might desire. Convention registration allows
unlimited admission to the Exhibit Sales Floor, so
come in and browse. Your program book, found in
the registration packet, contains information about
special sales from a number of vendors. The Exhibit
Sales Floor opens Wednesday evening for registered
guests only. It is open to the public Thursday, Friday
and Saturday. Check the Schedule of Events in the
color class catalog or program book for times. Don’t
forget we have a Checkroom for you to stash your
purchases so you can return to shopping. Be sure to
pick up packages daily, because HOOT is not
responsible for items left overnight.
Four of Columbus’ top entertainment areas surrounding the
downtown means that you don’t have to venture very far to
have a good time. Next to the Greater Columbus Convention
Center, the Arena District is home to the Clippers Triple-A
Baseball team (call for information 614-462-5250), concerts,
restaurants and nightclubs. In the neighboring Short North
Arts District, you’ll find restaurants, galleries, boutiques and
nightclubs. South of downtown are German Village, an
historic district with restaurants and shops, and the Brewery
District, home to the nation’s largest theater troupe,
Shadowbox Live.
Make time to explore downtown’s new parks – Columbus
Commons and the Scioto Mile which stretches along the
riverfront with a stunning fountain at its southern end.
No wheeled carts are allowed on the Exhibit Sales
Floor. They must be checked in at the
checkroom.
You won’t go hungry, as Columbus has one of the country’s
most innovative food scenes. From vegan to BBQ, you’ll find
more than 100 restaurants downtown offering every kind of
cuisine. Across from the convention center is the North

or program book for checkroom hours.
HEIRLOOM RAFFLE
Members of HOOT have painted a beautiful quilt and a lap
robe. Nancy Bateman, CDA, Phyllis Gibbs, CDA and Andy
Jones have donated outstanding collectible pieces for the
raffle. You do not need to be present to win. Tickets are
$1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and may be purchased at
convention. Shipping costs for the raffle items are the
responsibility of the winners. A portion of our heirloom raffle
proceeds will support the Art Cart at Nationwide Children’s
Hospital.
FREE DEMONSTRATIONS
We have the FREE DEMO area so you can rest and
watch interesting demonstrations by various
convention educators.
HOOT GIFT SHOP
Don’t forget the HOOT GIFT SHOP is open from
Monday through Saturday so that you may purchase
that special gift or souvenir, painted by HOOT
members.
MEMORY BOX PROGRAM
For the last sixteen years, HOOT has been proud to
participate in the Artist’s Memory Box Program, to provide
painted boxes to hold keepsakes for parents who mourn the
death of an infant. HOOT supplies fourteen central Ohio
hospitals and one in Northwest Ohio.
You are invited to stop by our Memory Box table from
Monday afternoon to Saturday 12:00 pm to basecoat or
decorate a box. Please feel free to come whenever you have
some extra time. All the necessary supplies will be available
at the table. Here you will find no project or educator fee, no
time limit and no critique. You may even make a new friend
or two, and you certainly will have our sincere thanks for your
willingness to share your time and talents.
