Tap Factory is a tremendously visual, highly exciting show, bringing the very best performers to the stage as they blend their art of percussion with dance and acrobatics. The four movements have a joyous energy which generates enormous power. Schubert’s last symphony is possibly his greatest masterpiece in any form, a supremely lyrical and imaginative work. “The appearances of Semyon Bychkov have become red letter events, and this... was no exception” Sunday Telegraph Tue 8 April, 8.15pm Wed 9 April, 7.45pm Fri 11 April, 11.30am The Anvil The Forge The Anvil The Haymarket Basingstoke Choral Society Rita Hosking The Solid Silver 60s Show Marty MacDonald’s Farm They say that if you remember the 60s you weren’t there. Come and join in the adventure to help Marty, Pongo the Pig, MollyMoo the Cow and Sheena the Sheep rescue their farm from Crafty and the Crows… Rossini W illiam Tell Overture Stabat Mater New London Sinfonia David Gibson conductor Basingstoke Choral Society with Croydon Philharmonic Choir Rossini completed his opera William Tell in 1829, making it his 36th in nineteen years. The overture has become his best-known work due to an indelible association with The Lone Ranger TV series. His Stabat Mater was first performed in Paris in 1842 to great acclaim. Three of the movements had to be repeated to quieten the cheers from the audience. The solemn text, a devotional poem about the Virgin Mary, could not be in greater contrast to the unashamedly theatrical style of the work, with its beautiful and gloriously uplifting music. Rita sings original mountain roots music with a voice that really grabs your attention, a kind of cross between the haunting delivery of Gillian Welch and the richness of Iris Dement. Come Sunrise, her 2009 album, launched her onto the national Americana scene, spending four months in the US Folk chart top 20. “… the best-kept secret in the country-folk traditionalist movement … it’s high time Hosking got the recognition she deserves” R2 Magazine TICKETS: £14; OVER 65s, UNDER 16s & F/T STUDENTS £12 TICKET PRICES INCLUDE £1 BOOKING FEE Now in its 29th year, the show reunites Brian Poole and The Tremeloes and features the unforgettable talents of Chris Farlowe, Chris Montez and Wayne Fontana, all backed by Vanity Fare. Pam Ayres brings her latest show to The Anvil following the recent publication of her new book of poetry, You Made Me Late Again!, copies of which she will be signing after the show. For forty years Robert Cray has laid down track after track of goodtime, uptown, low-down blues. He’s won five Grammys and been nominated for 11 more. Cray helped to shape the blues on the national scene in the 1980s with his breakthrough album Strong Persuader in 1986. His soulful and creative guitar work has been a dominant force in blues. Over the years Cray’s musical influence has been recognised and acknowledged. Pam Ayres’ work is funny, and approachable. It sounds simple, as though dashed off, but this is deceptive. Her hair-trigger timing, her eye for the detail of everyday life, and for the absurdity therein, makes for an art that hides art. With support from Azadeh. TICKETS: £30.50 TICKET PRICES INCLUDE £1 BOOKING FEE Pam has sold millions of books, CDs, and DVDs over the years, and she is still a regular on TV and radio, on programmes such as Just A Minute, Ayres On The Air, QI, Countdown, and The One Show. Good people, that is...” decreed the gods. Set in an unjust society where good can only survive by means of evil, this adaptation of Brecht’s 1941 classic story of altruism, morality and disguise follows Shen Te, a young prostitute, as she struggles to lead a life that is deemed “good” by the gods; which her fellow citizens of Szechwan merely pay lip service to. Once again, the Basingstoke Youth Theatre returns to the Haymarket stage with an epic tale for the Basingstoke Festival, giving life to the alter-ego Shen Te adopts to protect her own interests.
