NMC Healthcare observes
World No Tobacco Day
“THIS IS WHY MOST ANTISMOKING CAMPAIGNS FALL
OF DEAF EARS: Medical
research has proved that
there is a causal relationship
between
smoking
and
the loss of hearing. NMC
Healthcare used this startling
bit of information to create an
advertisement and a poster
(using sign language) to
remind people about the illeffects of consuming tobacco
and smoking.
In an effort to raise awareness of the risks of
tobacco, NMC Healthcare is actively participating
in making this day a success by displaying
posters on the ill-effects of consuming tobacco
and smoking.
Every year on May 31, countries worldwide
observe World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) that
is promoted by the World Health Organization
(WHO). The theme of World No Tobacco Day
2012 is “tobacco industry interference”.
Tobacco use is one of the leading preventable
causes of death. The global tobacco epidemic
kills nearly 6 million people each year, of which
more than 600,000 are people exposed to
second-hand smoke. Unless we act, it will kill
up to 8 million people by 2030, of which more
than 80% will live in low- and middle-income
countries.
Recent studies have shown that smoking rates
have risen at to an alarming level in the UAE.
24.3% of males between the ages of 13-15
are currently smoking tobacco products while
as many as 42% of 17 year old males have
developed smoking habits. Of the total male adult
population in the country, 20% are smokers.

Psychological Care
During Pregnancy
“A mother›s joy begins when new life is stirring
inside... when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the
very first time, and a playful kick reminds her
that she is never alone.”
swings are due to hormonal changes. Stressing out
about every little thing you come into contact with
can cause adverse effect on fetal growth so it is
important to know about psychological care.
As soon as you see that pregnancy test is a
positive, feeling of motherhood sets in. You start
thinking about pregnancy, lots of questions arises,
am I having good health? What I should do to have
healthy baby? When I should consult a doctor and
so on…..
Following are the some tips to promote mental
health during pregnancy
No doubt about it, pregnancy can be one of the
worrisome times in a woman›s life. One more
life is growing inside our body. We often hear
pregnancy is not a disease but it’s a normal natural
phenomenon but we should take care and protect
life from external dangers like stressors, chemicals,
radiations, injuries etc .most of the pregnant women
are anxious and some time depressed these mood
• Be happy always with positive attitude towards
pregnancy
• Acquire adequate knowledge about pregnancy
and clear your all doubts.
• Get spouse support; share your feelings with him.
• Keep yourself busy with recreational activities like
reading books, listening music, watching television,
playing games etc.
• Don’t involve yourself in unwanted thinking.
• Take adequate rest and sleep for 2 to 3 hours
during day time and 8-10 hours during night.
• Smile and laugh. Have your best friends over for
tea and enjoy
• Yawn. Yes, yawn. Repeated yawning resets the
brain, releases our “happy” hormones and helps the
body to feel better
• Move! Talk a 10 minute walk, swim for half and
hour, dance to your favorite music.
• Often keep your both hands over the abdomen
and enjoy fetal kick count
• Talk with your baby and listen the tiny heart beats
• Do deep breathing exercises and meditation
which makes you more relaxed
• Avoid fights and arguments
• Try not be alone at home instead have family
and friends visits.
