Berklee College of Music in Debut of New Live Jazz

lineup featuring traditional, contemporary and world jazz sounds

This spring, something new blossoms at Four Seasons Hotel Boston: Jazz Lounge at The Bristol, a
live performance series showcasing Boston’s top emerging artists in the luxury and comfort of the Hotel’s
Bristol restaurant and bar, affectionately known as “Boston’s Living Room.” Making its debut on March 24,
2015 Jazz Lounge is presented in partnership with the renowned Berklee College of Music and features an
eclectic lineup of artists comprising traditional, contemporary and world jazz sounds.

“Whether it be leaders of arts and culture, philanthropy, business or government, The Bristol has long been
a gathering place for both locals and luminaries over its storied legacy,” says Ryan Jimenez, Director of
Public Relations at Four Seasons Hotel Boston. “Artists have been a vibrant part of this special history and
we’re thrilled to partner with the Berklee College of Music to make The Bristol another home for jazz in the
city, a venue that celebrates the wealth of top emerging artists found right here in Boston.”
Performances are scheduled for select Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in The Bristol restaurant and bar at
Four Seasons Hotel Boston, beginning March 24. Performances are available to guests dining in the The
Bristol or Bristol Bar; tickets are not required. Dining reservations are highly recommended for dinner and
can be made by calling 617 351 2037.

March 24, 2015: Contemporary Jazz - Mao Sone Quartet
Known for his ability to cross musical boundaries, unique compositions and his unorthodox approach in
playing both the trumpet and piano simultaneously, Mao Sone began performing and composing under
the guidance of his father at age 10. Sone was granted a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music
where he is a member of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and studies under renowned musicians such as
Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, John Pattituci, David Gilmore and Tiger Okoshi. Sone has performed in domestic
and foreign jazz festivals including the Jazz Education Network in Kentucky, the Monterey Jazz Festival
in California, the Bean Town Jazz Festival in Boston, Massachusetts, National Cherry Blossom Festival in
Washington DC, Toronto Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Newport Jazz Festival, Rhode Island
and has collaborated with musicians such as Joe Lovano, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Miguel Zenon,
David Sanchez and more. With the renowned jazz trio WE3 in Japan, he has recorded the collaborative
album The Legend of Jazz Trio Meets Mao and won the first prize in the jazz improvisation competition
at the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference in 2014, and was selected as the semifinalist at the
Thelonious Monk Competition that same year. Sone performs primarily in Boston and Japan.

April 7: World Fusion Jazz - Carlos Carpacho: The Cuatro Project
A noted player of the cuatro - a guitar-like instrument, and the national instrument of Venezuela - Carlos
Carpacho has garnered international recognition for his command and impeccable technique. In 2004
he won first prize at the First International Contest “Cuatro Venezuelan” and in 2007 completed his first
soloist album entitled Carlos Carpacho and Cuatro, featuring arrangements and themes of Venezuelan
and international repertoire. He launched a new album in 2009 entitled Evolution, a jazz trio-format gaining
platinum record status in Venezuela. A scholarship recipient at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music,
Carpacho has performed with noted international artists including Aldemaro Romero, Simon Diaz, Maria
Teresa Chacin , Cheo Hurtado (cuatro), Hamilton do Holanda (mandolin Brazil ), Leo Blanco (piano),
Huascar Barradas (flute), Ensemble Gurrufio, Eddy Marcano, Rafael Brito, Alexis Cardenas (violin),
Gustavo Caruci (producer), Diego Alvarez (percussion), Francisco Pacheco (singer), TheQuartet, Serenade

Guayanesa Ben Sher (guitar), Marcos Granados, Moises Torrealba (bandola), Cecilia Todd (singer), Danilo
Perez, Jhon Patitucci, George Garzone and Paquito D’ Rivera. His performances have taken him to stages
around the world including Mexico, Cuba, Cameroon, Gabon, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, China, Peru,
France, United States, Holland, Portugal, Brazil and Panama.

April 21: World Jazz - 3 Sudacas
The group 3 Sudacas comprises Marianella Rojas from Venezuela (voice and percussion), Eduardo Mercuri
from Brazil (guitar), and Esther Rojas from Colombia (bass). The trio fuses traditional music genres from
their native countries with jazz harmony and pop elements for a distinctively subtle, fresh sound. After
meeting at Berklee College of Music and forming their trio, the group later became part of the band that
performed with three-time Grammy Award and 16 Latin Grammy Award winner Alejandro Sanz at the Latin
Grammy Awards in Las Vegas in November 2013. 3 Sudacas has performed in the City Series in Boston
during the summer 2014 and were part of the band that played at the Future of the Americas event in Miami
organized by Clinton Foundation. They were selected by Heavy Rotation Records to be part of the Dorm
Sessions compilation in spring 2015. 3 Sudacas is currently working on their first album, which is expected
to be released in 2015.

May 5: Jazz - Ludovica String Quartet
The Ludovica String Quartet explores the possibilities of string instruments in different musical genres,
all through the lens of jazz. The group includes Italian violinist Ludovica Burtone, violinist Carlos Silva
(Venezuela), New Jersey native Dan Lay on viola, and cellist Marta Roma from Spain. Italian violinist,
improviser and composer Ludovica Burtone has performed worldwide as both a soloist and chamber
musician. A scholarship recipient and recent graduate from Berklee College of Music with a diploma in Jazz
Composition, Burtone has been classically trained, studying at the Conservatory of Liceu in Spain, and at
the Conservatory J. Tomadini in Italy, where she graduated with a Master of Arts in Violin Performance,
Magna Cum Laude. In addition to her classical training, Burtone grew up improvising jazz and folk music
contexts, and since 2012, has immersed herself in all aspects of jazz studies. In 2011 she was awarded
a full scholarship to attend the Banff Festival in Jazz and CreativeMusic (Canada), where she studied
performance and composition with such artists as Dave Douglas, Eyvind Kang and Kneebody and has also
worked in masterclasses with Jim Black, Mark Feldman and Mark Dresser. During the last year at Berklee,
Burtone worked on building an eclectic repertoire for string quartet, from arrangements of jazz standards to
tangos and original compositions, first presented in a concert at George Island in summer 2014. Burtone has
worked with several European orchestras and as a chamber musician she has toured throughout continental
Europe, Canada, Costa Rica and the United States.

May 19: Contemporary Jazz - Edmar Colón Quartet
The Edmar Colón Quartet is led by 20-year-old tenor saxophonist and Berklee Presidential Scholar Edmar
Colón with Grant Richards on piano, Tabari Lake on bass, and Diego Ramirez on drums. The group
performs a mix of their own compositions as well as their takes on some well-known standards, all with
a hint of Colón's native Puerto Rico. Since beginning his studies at Berklee, he has been chosen for the
prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute with artistic director Danilo Pérez and has performed with artists
such as Joe Lovano, John Patittucci, Danilo Pérez, Miguel Zenón, Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Lionel
Loueke, salsa stars Luis Enrique and Ismael Miranda, Ivan Lins, and Steve Cardenas.

June 2: World/Jazz Fusion: Brazilian Choro with Bepop - ChoroBop Trio

With a repertoire based in Brazilian roots, the trio ChoroBop fuses the liveliness and the lyricism of Brazilian
choro music with the influences of jazz, bebop and contemporary music. Born in different cities in Brazil,
group members include Eduardo Mercuri (mandolin/guitar), Flavio Lira (7-string guitar/bass) and Anne
Nêgah Santos (percussion), three talented performers who would meet at the Berklee College of Music and
discover a shared passion for the choro genre. After their debut show at the Blue Note in May 2014, and
having toured extensively along the East Coast, ChoroBop is preparing to release their debut album in 2015.
