During the holiday season, people open their hearts and wallets to charities that they believe in. In order
to continue to care for the children who walk in our front door, we must raise $600,000 by December 31.
In 2014, the Home cared for nearly 6,000 children and families, a 50% increase over 2013 –
a number we know will continue to grow.
Every year, we are seeing more kids who need
our services, and without your support, we
won’t be able to provide it.
The average cost of raising a child is $37 a day.
Including the therapy, support and other services
provided by the Home, the average cost for a
child in our care is $300 a day.

Friends,
We’re gearing up for a busy holiday season at the Home. Each year, we find ourselves working
harder during these last few months as we continue to serve more children and families as time
goes on. To date in 2014, we’ve reached a new high by serving 5,781 children, many of them
receiving multiple critical services.
It’s always touching to see how the lives of our kids are impacted as we open the mail and get
generous checks from our donors. We are so appreciative every time a car or truck pulls up to
our front entrance, bringing us carts full of supplies and gifts that we know will improve the
lives of the children throughout the year. I enjoy taking the time to sign each thank you letter
to show my appreciation.
While we have many donors to thank in this edition of Hometown News, we still need your support.
You are the reason we are able to continue to care for children in crisis in our community and
provide them with the love and support they need. We couldn’t do it without you! I hope you
agree that seeing the joy on our kids’ faces is what makes every donation worth it and support us
yet again as 2014 closes. Our mission goes on only because you continue to support the Home.
I wish you and your family the best during the holidays, and look forward to 2015. I hope you’ll
join me in celebrating the successes and stories of our children for years to come.

Home of the Innocents provides programs and
services for children and young adults in crisis:
• Medically fragile and terminally ill children who
require 24-hour-a-day skilled nursing care.
• Those who require emergency care due to abuse,
abandonment, neglect, homelessness or who need
foster care.
• Homeless, pregnant or parenting teens and their
family members needing case management,
education, parenting and independent living skills.
• Children with autism and special needs.
• Young adults who are homeless or at risk of
homelessness, are in crisis due to mental health or
abuse and families who are struggling to maintain
their children in their homes to provide stability
and skills for self sufficiency.

Home of the Innocents relies on the generosity of our community to help us provide for the hundreds of children we serve on a daily basis. The
following are items that the Home needs now. All donations are 100% tax deductible. New items are preferred, but like-new items are also
accepted, such as pots and pans or a working microwave.
Drop-off hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. These items can be delivered to the Home’s main entrance

Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center
Our 76-bed skilled nursing facility provides specialized care for medically fragile and technology dependent
children. We serve children from infancy to age 21 who need 24-hour care as a result of birth defects, birth
injuries, chronic or terminal illness, or accidents. Our pediatric specialists provide residents with the best
medical attention and therapies available, while ensuring that the kids enjoy the fun and educational
activities of childhood. Children are admitted for long-term, short-term and respite care.
