CAMPUS CONNECTION HCC Northeast offers hair weaving and braiding program A PUBLICATION OF HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE NORTHEAST FOR THE NORTHEAST COMMUNITY Summer and Fall 2014 A word from the president The Houston Community College Northeast cosmetology department has expanded its program to offer a certificate course in hair weaving and braiding at the Northline Campus, 8001 Fulton Road 77022. The 16-week program is designed to prepare students for employment as a licensed Cosmetology Hair Weaver/Braider. No prior experience with hair braiding or weaving is needed. Students will learn the basic elements of design: weaving, braiding, sizing, removal and texture as well as growth and health of virgin hair. Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. At the enrollment session, participants will have the opportunity to meet with instructors, view the facility and learn about the details of the program and additional requirements. Students had access to human resources recruiters to learn more about opportunities with the company as well as interview for careers in a variety of energy related careers. These opportunities lead to students obtaining positions with industry leaders in oil and gas. Each year, Houston Community College Northeast experiences a high As a measure to more efficiently serve students, the College has May 26, 2014 launched the Financial Aid Answering Service Team (FAAST). Once the message is received and reviewed by a financial aid representative, a return call is made within 36 hours. The Energy Institute has grown exponentially in recent years as the institute has seen an increase in the demand for skilled workers in the oil and gas industry. Employers find that Northeast College has been a great resource in finding skilled workers and return to recruit students various times throughout the year. The faculty at the HCC Northeast Energy Institute also have numerous years of experience in industry and have maintained relationships with various industry partners who guide programs at the Energy Institute by serving as members of an advisory committee. Students also benefit from these relationships and are able to gain industry experience through internships, which often lead to employment at these companies.
