Welcome to the new Ortho Classic catalog; as you
can see we've made a few changes to our already
fine publication. Focusing on more than just
orthodontic products we've peppered the magazine
with value added articles on health, fitness and overall
wellness. At Ortho Classic we believe that orthodontics is
more than just cosmetic: it's about creating a better
overall wellness and lifestyle for the patient. As our
magazine and company grows we will continue to
bring you new, fresh lifestyle and wellness articles that
will be both beneficial to you and your patients.
For this issue we've added many new and exciting
products. Number one on the list is the TenBrook Axis
Passive Self-Ligating System (pages 16-25).
Co-developed by Dr. James J. TenBrook and Ortho
Classic the TenBrook Axis system is one of the
most exciting new developments in recent years to
the self-ligating field. The combination of Dr.
TenBrook's wire sequence along with the finely tuned
engineering of the bracket makes the TenBrook Axis
system one of the most efficient, easy-to-use selfligating systems available. Early clinical results
have been impressive with Class II Malocclusions
aligning in as little as 3 months. We are very
excited about this product and think you will be too.
The Bio-MIM Premium Nickel-Free Convertible Buccal
Tubes (page 35) are another new product added to
this addition. Metal Injection Molded from our
proprietary nickel-free stainless steel our Premium
Convertible Buccal Tube's cap is placed into position
using our exclusive “Accu-Tach” process rather than
the standard welding that our competitors use. This
unique process is just as strong as a weld but
provides a more consistent and reliable removal
force. We believe that these buccal tubes are the
highest quality tubes on the market. Watch
upcoming issues of this magazine for more new sizes.

Full Control
Ensuring full control, torque is built into the base of each bracket and
anatomically contoured (mesial-distal/occlusal-gingival) for accurate
placement on each tooth. Brackets are engineered with precise
angulation, placing the long axis of the root distal to the occlusal portion
of the crown, allowing all roots to align parallel. The anatomical
contoured design allows precise bracket placement with all slots aligning
at the end of the treatment. The upper centrals and laterals incline in a
“plus” torque reading encouraging ideal contact point line-up and
enhanced occlusion stability. Each bracket has optimum control to allow
teeth to be free of rotations.

BRACKET INFORMATION
Combined Effort
Moving teeth in a combined bodily movement, our bracket and buccal
tubes can quickly accomplish an optimal class I molar relationship.
Individual bracket thicknesses are built into each bracket and buccal tube
(labial-lingual), reducing the need for first order in-out wire bends and
our buccal tubes are designed with highly accurate molar offsets.
The combination of these features easily allow for a flat curve of spee.
Ortho Classic’s proprietary Pad-Lok 100 mesh base provides one of
the strongest bonds available. One piece metal injection molding
eliminates all bracket to pad separations.

OC: Not really, adult braces are becoming more
and more common, around 25% of braces wearers
are adults.
It was worth it, my doctor said my bite was off and my
bottom teeth were wearing the enamel off the inside of
my upper teeth. If I didn’t get braces I would have had
bigger problems than a few crooked teeth.
BRACKETSYSTEMS
OC: So Teresa, were you born with that great smile
or have you had braces?
Ha, thanks, I actually got braces when I was 23, which
I guess seems late in life.
OC: So even as a model the braces were more
than a cosmetic need for you. You needed them to
maintain healthy teeth.
Yeah, it was a real win, win. I got a great smile and
healthy teeth!
OC: Well it shows; your teeth look great. What
type of brackets did you wear?
I wore the metal ones; you know the kind with all of
the cute colored rubber bands.
OC: We've sold a few of those in our time,
how long were you in braces?
I was in them for about 4 years. It was a long
time, but it was worth it.
OC: I bet; once your orthodontic treatment
was done, how did you feel about your new
look?
I was definitely more confident. I do a lot of high
fashion modeling and it doesn't require too much
smiling, but the orthodontic treatment helped with
my profile, which led to more work.
OC: That's great. So, how long have you been
modeling for?
I've been modeling for over 10 years. I started
when I was 17 and did a lot modeling in Tokyo.
OC: You've done shoots for lots of famous
publications, how was your first ever shoot
for an ortho magazine?
It was great and the pictures turned out amazing!

HYGIENIC
Radial contours of the bracket follow the natural contours of the teeth creating natural
sluice ways for materia alba to wash away from the braces.
COMFORT
Smooth, rounded contours, with no uncomfortable tie wings that stick out; allowing lips and
soft tissue to adapt comfortably with the bracket contours. The TenBrook Axis is one of the
lowest profile self-ligating brackets on the market.

CHAMFERED SLOT (Mesio-Distally)
Increased inter-bracket distance and chamfered slot dimensions, allows for greater flexibility
and ease of arch wire engagement. High performance wires are able to deflect in a more
radial manner, enhancing the arch wires effectiveness in moving teeth efficiently, and
decreasing permanent sets or kinks in the wires.
ROTATING CAP
Unique and easy to use. The TenBrook Axis’s proprietary rotating cap allows for easier
arch wire engagements, by "carrying the wire into the slot" upon arch wire engagement.
No more "crushing" or scraping the surface of arch wires attempting to close a door, slide,
or clip. Unique axial design minimizes materia alba and calculus build up around the
mechanism. This aids in deflecting material away, not allowing frictional, binding of the
cap.

Unique slot dimensions allow for wires to "couple" more effectively enabling the orthodontist
to realize the "true" prescription in the bracket. This allows for rotational and torque control.
The finishing wires match the bracket slot dimensions (with-in manufacturing tolerances)

JAMESTENBROOK
Co-Inventor of the TenBrook Axis Self-Ligating System
r. James J. TenBrook received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania. He then proceeded to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he
earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree. Afterwards, Dr. TenBrook trained at Emory University
where he performed his internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Finally, he went on to Harvard University,
where he earned his Masters of Medical Sciences and Orthodontic Degree from the Harvard Medical School and
Forsyth Dental Center respectively.

Dr. TenBrook returned to his grassroots in Southern New Jersey, realizing his dream of bringing high quality orthodontic treatment at a reasonable cost. Dr. TenBrook currently owns and operates six offices in Southern New
Jersey as well as TenBrook Orthodontics Practice Management Services, which focuses on high efficiency treatment in a private orthodontic practice setting. TenBrook Orthodontics is recognized as one of the finest practices
in the United States.
Dr. TenBrook is active in many areas of his orthodontic profession. He has been a guest speaker, both nationally
and internationally, from Palm Springs, California to Pretoria, South Africa, where he lectured on treatment efficiencies and practice management solutions. Dr. TenBrook is an active member of the American Dental
Association, American Association of Orthodontists, and the Harvard Society for the Advancement of Orthodontics.
Dr. TenBrook's most recent accomplishment is the new TenBrook Axis Self-Ligating System. His key role in the
design and development of the system and the "TenBrook Technique" arch wire sequencing has created one of
the most efficient, easy-to-use, passive self-ligating systems on the market.
How long have you been practicing?
I started practicing February 1993, so 16 years. In that
time I have treated over 13,000 patients.
Wow, that’s a lot of patients! How long have you
been involved in Self-Ligation?
I started using the Damon bracket, with my wire
sequence, in June of 2002; so I have been involved
with self-ligation close to 7 years. I have treated about

What are the advantages of self-ligating brackets?
Because the teeth move faster, more efficiently, and with
relatively no pain; I have more time in my schedule, my
assistants are more productive , and most importantly
my patients are happy!
That’s great. Tell me what makes the TenBrook Axis
so innovative.
The design of the bracket is revolutionary. Radial contours
and a low profile make this bracket the most comfortable
and easiest to clean around. Also, the cap design and
chamfered slot optimize the arch wires performance
through "radial flow" and increased inter-bracket distance.
The teeth just move very quickly with minimal discomfort.
Lastly, the rotating cap is easy to open and close

because it deflects "material alba" and plaque away, so
the door never gets stuck closed or never becomes
hard to open; like you see with columnar slides and
clips. Oh, and I almost forgot the Axis Tool! It holds the
Axis cap precisely rotating it around to the open and
closed positions. It works better than any tool I have
ever used!
Can you tell me more about hygiene and the Axis?
The TenBrook Axis Bracket was designed to follow the
basic forms of dental anatomy, thus providing natural
"sluice ways' for food and bio-material to move down
and away from the bracket. This is hygienic in that it
will stay naturally cleaner during eating, and be more
accessible to tooth brushing.
How does the treatment time differ with TenBrook
Axis over traditional bracket use?
Treatment times are much less; in most cases half the
time of traditional braces, and significantly less than other
self-ligating bracket systems I have used. A typical 24
month case with other bracket systems becomes a 12
month case with the TenBrook Axis System. The
patients love it! And for the doctor you are finished with
fewer appointments, better appointment control of your
schedules, less overhead, and more money in your
pocket!

How is the Axis different from other self-ligating
brackets on the market?
The unique design. Most other self-ligating brackets
are variations of twin brackets redesigned with a clumsy
door or clip. I thought twin brackets and tie wings were
for ligature ties! : You will find that the TenBrook Axis
bracket was built from the ground up with the patient
and doctor in mind. Every design feature was precisely
thought out for patient comfort, ease of operator use,
and the doctor's treatment efficiency in mind. This is a
well thought out bracket for the modern orthodontic
practice.
How important is the archwire selection during
treatment?
Arch wire selection is very important if you want optimal
treatment results; meaning faster treatment times,
fewer appointments, greater patient comfort, and
fewer emergencies! That is why I have outlined the
TenBrook Axis System of wires for the best results.
Can a doctor use his own wire sequence and still
have a successful treatment?
The TenBrook Axis System is a synthesis of the better
elements of self -ligation, Begg light wire, and Edgewise
techniques; and can accomplish more than anyone of
them alone. The wire sequences specified are distillations
of multiple clinical events that are calibrated to maximize
treatment efficiencies. As my clinical professor at
Harvard told me, "there are many ways to skin a cat,
but there can only be one best way!"
Why do you use a broader arch form?
A broad arch is esthetic and beautiful, it exudes health
and self confidence. A broad arch is the underpinning
scaffold of the midface, and enhances upper lip support.
A broad arch is functional. It allows for a more natural
axial inclination of teeth and a more functional occlusion
that is more in harmony with the anatomy and function
of the temporomandibular joints.
How do the chamfered slots work with a class two
and class three cases?
The chamfered slot design functions to allow "radial
flow" of flexible arch wires like Nickel titanium, to align
teeth faster. Also, the chamfered slot coupled with light
round, resilient wires, enables sliding mechanics to occur
with less friction, thus allowing for dental compensations
to occur more rapidly and efficiently, like in Class 2 and
Class 3 cases.
BRACKETSYSTEMS
How would you solve the issue with inter-bracket
distance?
Inter-bracket distance is maximized in the TenBrook
Axis Bracket allowing for the greatest ease in arch wire
engagement, and the most effective bite opening
mechanics. Any further reduction mesio-distally in the
brackets design would result in a loss of angular control
of individual teeth.
What is the role of force in orthodontic treatment?
It is critical that the arch wires are calibrated to function
in an optimal physiologic zone or "biozone". The wires
should deliver optimal force as to not cause capillary
occlusion, but to stimulate chemical messengers in
such a precise way as to recruit bone remodelers,
osteoblasts and osteoclasts, to the site of activation
very quickly. At these favorable force values, teeth
move at the most rapid rate, with the least amount of
tissue damage and pain. I have found that optimum
physiologic tooth movement occurs between 30 and
300 grams of force. The

What are the advantages of having a smaller slot
dimension?
The advantages of a smaller slot dimension are that I
can use smaller wires with less force, and have more
control over my teeth throughout the entire treatment. I
don't have to "back down" wire sizes during active treatment
to pick up mal positioned teeth, like second molars. I
am a lot more efficient because I use fewer wires to get
the same result! Also, it is well known in the orthodontic
literature that light continuous forces, with smaller
resilient wires, are more conducive to efficient tooth
movement because the cell biology system remains in a
constant responsive state.

What are the force levels in the first phase of treatment?
Ideal force levels in the Stage 1 Alignment Phase are
between 50 and 95 grams of force; 30 grams in cases
of severe crowding and periodontal bone loss, and
recession. All of the Stage 1 Alignment wires in the
TenBrook Axis System are precisely calibrated to function
in this "biozone" or optimal physiologic zone.
How does base retention differ from other self-ligating brackets?
The bracket base design on the TenBrook Axis Bracket
is proprietary. It is a reverse engineered 80 gauge mesh
that establishes a tenacious mechanical lock with all
flowable resin materials. Microscopically the base has
resin flow channels that are of perfect size to allow for
viscous resin to flow down and around metallic pillars.
These pillars have special retentive features that act as
barbs to the cured resin tags, which effectively seal the
mechanical lock. It is quite amazing.
How does rotational control differ from other selfLigating brackets?
Rotational control is well calibrated in the TenBrook Axis
Bracket design. The coupling arm facio-lingually, along
with the unique bracket dimensions, allow for almost
perfect "mating" of finishing wires. This almost perfect
fit (within manufacturing tolerances) allows for ideal
three dimensional controls of individual teeth.
So is the rotating cap better than the traditional
slide?
The rotating cap of the TenBrook Axis bracket has a
number of advantages over the traditional slide or
vertically displaced door.
1) The nature of a columnar slide lends to multiple
points of friction along a linear tract. These multiple
points of friction are susceptible to binding and "build
up" of "material alba" and calculus mineral deposits
from normal salivary flow. I equate it to a sliding door that
over time develops binding friction, and subsequently
goes off track. The rotating nature of the cap of the
TenBrook Axis bracket displaces and deflects "materia
alba"and calculus away from the mechanism, allowing
it to freely glide and rotate to its intended open or
closed position. This would be analogous to a door
knob that turns to open or close a door in your house.
Years later it turns without incident.

2) Opening or closing a slide or clip requires a sheering
force by nature that is incongruous to bracket retention.
The Axis rotating cap is opened and closed with little
force, and the tool holds the bracket in place without
jeopardizing retention and potentially knocking the
bracket off with lateral forces.
3) The rotating cap works harmoniously with the radial
contours of the bracket, self enveloped, in a protected
clockwork channel; thus erroneous displacement of the
cap is never a worry as is seen with broken clips and
doors.
How do the cut outs on the rotating cap add to the
performance of the bracket?
The cut outs on the rotating cap of the TenBrook Axis
bracket add performance by allowing the flexible wires
easier passing engagement from one bracket to another,
increasing inter-bracket distance, and enhancing the
radial performance of NiTi wires. The cut outs are also
the engagement points for the Axis tool.
Is there a special adhesive that should be used?
No, most bis-GMA resin products that are out there will
do just fine, as long as they have good reology (flow)
and strength.
Why do you preach .018 rather than .022?
.018 slot technique is more efficient because you use
less wires, lower forces, and have more control
because the wire/ slot dimension is minimized. This is
an advantage, especially in self-ligation.
Can a doctor still use .022?
Sure, if that is his or her desire, but I find finishing
especially challenging with .022 slot in self-ligation,
because in order to finalize your tooth positions by "full
slotting" the bracket, the wires become increasingly stiff
and difficult to use, not to mention the high, potentially
detrimental forces they can deliver to the teeth and
underlying periodontium.
Can you explain the three stages of the TenBrook
Axis system?
Absolutely, here it is in detail.
STAGE 1 ALIGNMENT
In Stage 1 Alignment the goal is to align the teeth with
optimal physiologic forces and minimal friction. We also

need intra-arch disclusion so that the teeth are able to
move freely without any interferences, traumatic occlusion,
or encumbrances from occluding teeth in the opposing
arch. The bracket form and design must accept the
flexible Nickel Titanium wires in a radial fashion as it
enters and leaves the engaged bracket from mesial to
distal. This optimizes the wires performances by allowing
the cubic arrangement of the wires molecules to slide by
each other uniformly as it changes phases from martensitic
to austenitic. This radial displacement of the flexible arch
wire allows for uniform flow of the wire molecules. This
is enhanced by an increased inter-bracket distance (as
seen with the cut outs on the cap and chamfered slot
design). NiTi wire engagements on 90 degree corners
as seen in other bracket designs leads to molecular
dislocations leading to permanent deformations of the
arch wire past its elastic limit, causing the NiTi wire to
lose its force delivery at the point of engagement.
When this occurs you will typically see permanent sets
or kinks in the NiTi wires.

BANDS & ATTACHMENTS INFORMATION
Standard Weld
The drawings below provide an overview of the various standard positions and illustrate the attachment welded at
0º angulation to the band (the bracket slot will be parallel to the occlusal edge of the band).
Custom Weld
Custom assemblies are any Ortho Classic brackets and bands that are not pre-welded in the standard position. If
you need a custom placement, indicate direction and amount of change from standard (e.g., 0.5 mm more
occlusal). If specifying a custom angulation, indicate a plus (+) for distal root tip or a minus (-) for mesial root tip.
If no position information is provided on the order, it will be welded in the standard position. Custom items are not
returnable.

tooth roots and investing periodontal tissues. Rapid
bite opening and rapid space closure, with minimal
friction, and low physiologic forces are hallmarks of
this technique. The TenBrook Axis System takes
advantage of these principles and employees light
round wire philosophy to working phase mechanics for
superior results.
The TenBrook Axis bracket design has superior bite
opening advantages over other brackets due to its
increased interbracket distance due to the unique cap
and chamfered slot design. The
nature of the passive self- ligating
design allows for the light tensile
stiff round wires to slide effortlessly
through the bracket slot lumens,
efficiently sliding teeth to their final
destination with little force. Because
little force is needed to slide teeth,
anchorage control of posterior teeth

is a non issue.
Ideal force for tooth movement in
Stage 2 Working mechanics is
between 75 and 150 grams of
force. The light curves in the wires
provide for differential forces that
can be quantified in horizontal (class1)
and vertical (class2) force vectors.

control (torque), intrusion and extrusion

mechanics; essentially controlling
incisors in all 3 orders of space. (Every mm of effective
curve in the wires equates to 7 to 9 grams of force. For
example 10mm of curve equals between 70 and 90
grams of force. It takes about 75 grams of force to
intrude a maxillary central incisor. Power chain or light
elastics deliver roughly 75 grams of class 1 force.)
Please note that force levels above 150 grams will
result in tooth movement in posterior anchorage units,
resulting in "slipping" of anchorage, even with tip back
in the wire. This is why round wire and low force, due
to minimal friction allows for rapid space closure, overjet
and overbite reduction, with no tax on anchorage; because
the force never gets high enough to move posterior molars.
In Summary, the goals of this phase are 1) space closure,
2) overjet and overbite resolution (First molar to first
molar) 3) work at the optimal sliding mechanic force levels
for round wire of 75 to 150 grams. The Working Phase
is a light; flowing phase centered on inter-arch alignment
and dental compensations that meet the individual
patients skeletal parameters.
STAGE 3 FINISHING
In Stage 3 Finishing the goal is to take advantage the
true binding functionality of the edgewise slot by gaining
three dimensional control of the individual tooth units
with rectangular wires, and realizing the "built in"
straight wire prescription in the customized brackets
slots. The TenBrook Axis bracket prescription is a true
hybrid of modern day prescriptions, taking advantage of
higher torque values and a wider arch form. In addition,
the posterior wall of the bracket slot is "full length"
taking advantage of an ideal coupling arm between
posterior and anterior bracket walls, for full rotational
control.
ANCHORAGE
The TenBrook Axis System Finishing
wires are designed with the slot
dimension in mind. The wires "mate"
with the dimensions of the bracket
slots 4 walls, almost exactly (within
tolerances); thus effectively the
bracket becomes "active" in the final
stages of treatment.
The ideal force range for finalizing
tooth positions and arch form is
between 150 and 300 grams.
The Finishing arch wires are
calibrated to these physiologic
force levels with 3 ranges of
malleability or flexibility. Premium
Thermal NiTi Light is very soft and
pliable; Premium Thermal NiTi
- B: 3 Months
Medium has ideal hysteresis and
force levels; and Premium NiTi is super elastic and is
stiffer with higher force. The 3 grades of wires allows
for dimensional control of teeth for varying clinical
situations. (For example, picking up inclined second
molars, without having to step down to a smaller
dimensioned wire for flexibility, thus losing rotational
control of anterior incisors.) Premium Thermal NiTi
Light wire will allow you the flexibility to engage the
second molars without losing dimensional control of
other teeth.
In summary, the goals for this final phase of treatment
are 1) finalize tooth positions in all three planes of
space, 2) finalize arch form for the most esthetic broad
smile, 3) finish at ideal force levels of 150 to 300 grams
of force to optimize tooth positions, while maintaining
our physiologic goals of no pain and no harm to the
roots of the teeth and periodontal tissues.

exercise?
It really depends on the
client and what they are capable of. A good place to
start is 3 days per week for 30 minutes each day so the
body has some consistency and a stimulus to change
to. Working out should be goal specific. Know what
you are trying to do. One of the biggest misconceptions
out there is that people think that the best way to lose
body fat is to come in and do long slow-steady-state
cardio. If your goal is to run a marathon, then yes, do
cardio. If your goal is to lose body fat and be healthier,
then I'm going to put you on high-intensity resistance
training. High-intensity resistance training is the single
most effective way to lose body fat based on your
EPOC (Exercise Post Oxygen Consumption.) EPOC is
the rate in which the body consumes oxygen after exercise.
How long before most people reach the maintenance phase of exercise?
That really depends. Someone trying to lose 50-100 lbs
will take longer than someone who is trying to lose 5
lbs. The leaner we get, the harder it is to take the
pounds off. So find your goal, factor in about 1 ½ to 2
lbs of fat loss per week, and that's how long it is going
to take you to achieve your goal. If you want to lose
weight, all you need to remember is a simple math
equation: You've got to have more energy going out
then you have coming in.
What role do supplements play in exercise and
which ones do you recommend?
I think that the key to supplements is that it means "to
supplement." It means "in addition to." My
supplements need to be in addition to sound nutrition
and sound exercise. I see

too many people come in and take their multivitamin
and they don't even eat breakfast. That's not "in
addition to," that's "in replace of." With the stresses of
today's world including lots of pollutants in the air,
people working long hours and just an overall low
quality of life, people just aren't eating foods that are
very nutrient dense. I mean, if you look at how our
foods are grown and processed in today's world, the
mass producers take out all our nutrients in a lot of our
foods and then try to put some back in and call it
"enriched." It's not enriched if companies put back 10%
of what they took out.
What are Lipotropics and are there Lipotropics out
there that you have found work better than others?
Lipotropics help you emulsify the fats that are built up
around your liver so that you can burn more body fat
when you are doing cardiovascular activity or resistance
training. When you exercise your blood sugar will start
to drop. When your blood sugar drops, your body
decides that it is going to run out of blood sugar and it
will need to find energy someplace else. Lipotropics
help the body dump its stored energy (fat) into the
bloodstream and then the bloodstream transfers it to the
working muscles where it can be used to power muscle
contractions. Please be aware that a lot of the diet aids
you see on the shelves are caffeine or green tea extract
based. They are designed to make your engine (heart)
idle a bit faster and suppress hunger. It's like crack in a
bottle. A crack addict doesn't eat, why? Because he's
going 90 miles per hour, he doesn't need to.
Do you recommend that every person who starts
working out at a gym meets with a trainer?
Yes, I think everyone should meet with a trainer. When
your teeth are crooked you go to an orthodontist to get
them straightened, when your car isn't running good you
take it to a mechanic and when you have trouble with
your taxes you go to an accountant. Our job as a trainer
is to help people lose weight and get fit. Most people
who come into a gym just wander
around because they don't
know how to use the equipment. There's a guy out
there named Thomas
Plummer and he's a very
famous consultant in this
business and one of the
things he tells people is "you
are in this business to make
people look better naked." I

What should I expect out of a personal trainer?
Accountability and to demand more of you than you would
of yourself. And not just at the gym, but in your life as well.
I think that those are the most important things a trainer can
do for you. I think we are all born with a procrastination
gene. If it's something that gives us pleasure, we wanted it
yesterday. It's true. I see it all the time. People want "X",
whatever "X" is. The gap between want and willingness
creates conflict, self loathing and shame. People want to
look a certain way, but they don't have the will to do what it
takes to get there. The saddest thing to me is when people
have the will but they don't have a plan. They come into
the gym and they are all excited and they say "Man, I want
to try this!" They finally work up the courage to come into
the gym but they don't have a plan. So they come in and
they try for 4-6 weeks and then they give up and quit
coming in. Then they will come back in again for another
4-6 weeks and try again. Fitness is a race that the tortoise
always wins.
What should I eat before and after exercise?
If you are just going to do cardio I suggest eating an
apple or a banana before you work out. If you are
resistance training, eat some protein 1 ½ to 2 hours
before you work out because you will need some fuel in
your body. Then, when you're done, you want to have
something within your first 20 minutes like a post workout shake or some chicken breast. There's a really
great study they just did where they took 60 guys over
the age of 60 who had never worked out before. One
group didn't get any kind of protein post workout, the
other group got it 20 minutes post workout and the third
group got in an hour post workout. The group that got
the protein 20 minutes post workout gained almost 3
times more muscle tissue than either of the other
groups. When you think about it, when you come in
and work out, you've just stressed out your body.
Working out is a stress. It's a positive stress, but it's still
a stress. So it's like you are wringing out a sponge.
You see, when a sponge is really dry it can soak up
water very quickly. So you come in to wring your body
out and it says "Hey, you just came in and broke down
all this protein and put me through the ringer. Give me
something!" This allows our body to suck up protein
faster. And that brings up another topic, shakes. Unless
you have a meal already prepared and waiting for you
to eat at the gym, a post workout shake is the quickest
and easiest way to go. The ready-to-drink shakes are
the most expensive way to put protein in your body so
that's why I suggest using the powdered ones. A
shake is for quick convenient calories that are easily
assimilated.

know it sounds crude, but no one understands that with
90 % of the people that come into a gym, that's what
they want. I think everybody gets up in the morning
and to get from your bed to the bathroom most of us
have to walk by a mirror with just our pajamas on or
whatever it is that we wear and we all kind of stop and
get a fleeting glance and then we dart into the shower
and say "oh my god, I don't want to see it!" I think that
we all would like to look better. The question is: What
are you prepared to do? And the next question is: Do
you know what you are doing? So that's why I think
you need to meet with a trainer. So you can figure out
how you are going to get from A to B. My job as a trainer
is to get you to your goal as quickly as possible by giving
you your plan. Whatever you are doing in the gym that
is not productive towards your goal is a waste of time
and energy.
What is the difference between circuit training and
free weights?
None really. A circuit can be done with free weights.
Essentially, circuit training is weight training that is done
in a fashion where I go from one exercise to another
without any rest in between. Circuit training is a very
effective way to train in a short period of time. In fact,
pretty much 90% of my fat loss clients are on circuits,
but I put them on what I call a two-set or a two-exercise
or three-exercise circuit. Most of your circuits are typically
7-9 minutes long. An example would be going from
bicep curls, to tricep pushdowns and then to a squat.
Do you think it helps to have a workout partner?
Yes! Statistically speaking, if you have a "good" workout partner, your chance of success almost doubles.
You would want a workout partner who can hold you
accountable and has similar goals, desires and fitness
level.

OFFICE STRETCHES

Office Stretches
If you work in an orthodontic office, then you are no stranger to the aches and pains
associated with the drudging task of sitting at a desk or treatment station all day.
Common complaints from both doctors and assistants consist of headaches, neck pain,
tension in neck and shoulders, muscle fatigue and back pain located in the lower thoracic
and lumbar regions. These aches and pains are the result of bad posture coupled with hours
of sitting all day with minimal movement. But don't fret! You can alleviate these symptoms
and help correct your posture with some quick and simple stretches right at your desk.
Symptom: Tension in neck and shoulders.
Stretch: Seated Shoulder Rolls. Sit up straight and lift your
shoulders to the ceiling. Slowly roll them towards your back
pulling your scapulas together and then down towards the floor.
Now roll them slowly towards your front side and then back
towards the ceiling. Make 5 complete circles and then reverse
the process and roll your shoulders in the opposite direction.
Symptom: Headaches and neck tension.
Stretch: Seated Neck Rolls. Start by tilting your head toward
your right shoulder and hold for 5 seconds. Slowly roll your head
forward and look down towards your belly-button. Hold for 5
seconds. Now roll your head towards your left shoulder and hold
for 5 seconds. Now reverse the process by bringing your head
back down and then to the right side. Repeat this 4-5 more
times.
Symptom: Lower back pain.
Stretch: Seated Ceiling Reach. Sitting up straight with legs at a
90 degree angle, lift both arms in the air and point your fingers
towards the ceiling. Take two deep breaths. Now, tilt your body
towards the right and take two deep breaths then tilt towards the
left and take two deep breaths. This stretch can also be done
while standing.
Symptom: Mid-back & Lower pain
Stretch: Seated Chair Twist. While sitting upright, sit near the
edge of the chair. Now shift your knees diagonally towards the
right armrest of your chair or sit at a diagonal if you do not have
an armrest. Grasp the back of your chair and twist your body
towards the right. Hold for 15 seconds. Now change directions and
repeat these steps on your left side.

If you would like to start an Open Account, please contact
one of our Customer Service Representatives. Open
Accounts will receive an invoice shortly after shipment.
Payments on Open Accounts are due within account
terms. Any invoice outstanding after account terms will be
considered past due, and will be subject to service
charges of two percent (2%) per month and twenty-four
percent (24%) per year. Delays in shipments may occur
on accounts that are past due.

for credit may be subject to a 20% restocking charge.
All returns must be shipped postage paid and insured.
Shortages or errors in shipments must be reported within
7 days of invoice date to issue credit (if applicable).
The following products are not returnable:
Custom made products and those produced on
special order.
All pre-welded attachments including standard,
special placement, angulations and modified or
incomplete materials.
Chemical or refrigerated products.
Close-out or sale merchandise.

due upon delivery, depending on shipping method.

Ortho Classic is continually improving and updating
the quality and design of our products. Therefore, we
reserve the right to improve, modify, or discontinue
production on any product offering. Ortho Classic is not
responsible for typographical or photographic errors.
All prices are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change
without notice. Purchaser assumes all risk and liability
resulting from the use of these products. In the event of a
claimed defect, Ortho Classic's sole responsibility is
limited to replacement of the material, or at Ortho
Classic's option, issuing credit for the purchase price.
Ortho Classic will not be responsible for claims regarding
incidental and consequential damages.
