During the first evening, the 2013 edition of the Ball takes a musical bow to the immense Italian

After a champagne break the second part of the Ball shall bring on the stage a moment that is
dedicated to the art of costume and offers an exceptional fashion show, with famous Romanian and
Italian designers as well as the moments of the awarding of prizes Moda Cum Laude and Top Model.
The Grand Buffet of the Opera Ball, the waltz moments accompanied by the orchestra of the Opera

On the occasion of the Xth edition of the Opera Ball, in 2003 was the start for the Maecenas Award,
in order to reward the generosity and the involvement in supporting arts, literature, education and
culture.
A Maecena is a connoisseur. He is an investor in art, but he is also a connoisseur of the arts, he is
an investor in literature but he is a connoisseur of the literature, he is an investor in the education he
is a connoisseur of culture. He is a connoisseur.
Following the siprit of this principle, the talented painter Univ Prof Ph. D. Ioan Sbârciu, the rector
of the University of Art and Design has generously offered each year to the awardee of the
Maecena’s Award a painting of his creation, a gesture that has become a tradition along the time.
The awardees of the Maecenas prize of the former editions of the event are Vasile Leordean, Radu
Morariu, Robert Rekkers, John Guerry, Ioan Sbârciu, Ștefan Vuza, Horia Ciorcilă. The assignment
of the awardees and the conferment of the award is being made based on the decision made by the

of the Organizing Committee of the Opera Ball.

architectural monuments as well as the most singular of a city but also the elements that are connected
to the traditions and realities of that place, its specific features and its essence.

All renowned places of the world are marked and have become famous through the monuments and
personalities that have made the fame of the place to expand regionally, nationally and
internationally. Hence Cluj also is proud of its exceptional monuments but also of the personalities
that have made this city a well known address worldwide.
To such exceptional personalities in the field of education, science, medicine, economics,
administration, arts, culture and sports the stronghold is making a profound reverence conferring the
title of “Senior of the Stronghold” – senior not in the sense of the age but in the sense of the
