Uruk - Cradle of Civilization
Uruk - Cradle of Civilization Demonstration: the first 5 turns Setup a) the epoch-cards (I-IV) with white settle- ment stones b) the pool of resources c) the common display: - 3 cards faced up - 4. place for god/disaster cards - draw pile (level 2-inventions stacked on top) - discard pile d) the personal display: - 1 summary card (incl. the starting player logo) - one level 1-invention (equiped with 3 resources) - 1 settlement stone (1. village) e) the hand cards (5 in number) Note: the following demonstration shows 5 turns from the view of the starting player. 1. Turn - 1. Action Action „take a card“: Using one action, the player takes the blue level 2-invention „Segelschiff“ (sailing ship) from the common display. 1. Turn - 2. Action Action „make an invention“: The player makes an invention „Segelschiff“ (sailing ship) while showing the required 2 cards, adding one to his personal display and discarding the other one. 1. Turn - 3. Action Action „take resource/s“: The player takes one yellow resource cube from his level 1-invention and puts it in front of him forming his personal pool. Note: this action affords an corresponding resource invention in the personal display. S.1 Uruk - Cradle of Civilization, Demo first 5 Turns, engl. Ver. 2.0 © 2008 DDD Verlag GmbH 2. Turn - 1. Action Action „make an invention“: the player adds the blue level 2-invention „Wasserrad“ (water-wheel) to his display. Thus, no additional card is needed, because the „Segelschiff“ gives him a bonus (1 card less) on making blue inventions. Note: in contrast to the level 1-invention, no cubes are placed on this card! 2. Turn - 2. Action Action „make an invention“: the player adds the pink level 2-invention „Rad & Achse“ (wheel & axle) to his display, while showing the required cards. He replaces the missing second duplicate card with a red colour double and discards them. 2. Turn - 3. Action Action „take a card“: Finally he takes the card „Leuchtturm“ (lighthouse) from the common display and adds it to his hand. During his turn, the player uses his invention „Rad & Achse“ (wheel & axle) to change a yellow cube into a blue cube. This is not counted as an action! Note: Finally the gap within the common display is refilled with a new card from the draw pile. 3. Turn - 1. Action Action „take resource/s“: The player takes one yellow resource cube from his level 1-invention and puts it to his personal pool. S.2 Uruk - Cradle of Civilization, Demo first 5 Turns, engl. This is again no action. He takes one settlement stone and places it directly above his invention card „Segelschiff“ (sailing ship). The card is a blue level 2-invention, so he has to „pay“ to blue cubes to the pool. 3. Turn - 3. Action Action „take a card“: the player has little hand cards. He takes one from the center display. Note: Finally the gap within the common display is refilled with a new card from the draw pile. 4. Turn - 1. Action Action „take resource/s“: like in his preceding turns, the player takes a yellow cube from his level 1-invention. Note: the level 1-invention is used up and futile. With an action „make an invention“ the player can replace it with any other invention. The level 1-invention may then be invented again or used within a coloured couple. 4. Turn - 2. Action Action „take resource/s“: The player takes one blue resource cube from his invention „Wasserrad“ (waterwheel) and puts it to his personal pool. Note: the invention „Wasserrad“ (waterwheel) is inexhaustable. Thus, it can be used turn by turn. S.3 Uruk - Cradle of Civilization, Demo first 5 Turns, engl. Ver. 2.0 © 2008 DDD Verlag GmbH 4. Turn - 3. Action Action „take a card“: The player takes a card from the draw pile. a) All of a sudden, the first special card appears. It is placed face up to the reserved 4th place within the common display. b) He redraws and receives a invention card as intended. 5. Turn - 1. Action Action „make an invention“: The player invents the „Leuchtturm“ (lighthouse), while showing the required cards. He replaces the level 1-invention with the lighthouse card. Unfortunately he is missing again the 2nd duplicate card. He chooses to replace the missing card with a yello coloured couple, consisting of the just removed level 1-invention and the yellow level 3-invention from his hand. Note: Changing an invention does not change the position of settlement stones. 5. Turn - 2. Action Action „take resource/s“: the player uses his invention „Wasserrad“ (water wheel) and shifts a blue cube from the pool to his personal pool. S.4 Uruk - Cradle of Civilization, Demo first 5 Turns, engl. Ver. 2.0 © 2008 DDD Verlag GmbH 5. Turn - 3. Action Action „take a card“: the player takes a card from the draw pile. Again a special card appears. a) This one activates the disaster card, lying already face up in the common display. b) The drawn card is placed face down in front of the active player to mark his position. c) The player redraws and gets a level 3invention. Handling a disaster Gameplay is shortly interrupted to handle the disaster. a) Shift one settlement stone from the oldest epoch card, containing settlement stones, to the pool. b) All Players check their handcards. Each player who has more than 8 cards, discards the surplus. c) Players put their handcards aside. They bit for the privilege to avoid the loss of the disaster. Players bit with their cubes, in a secret and simultaneous manner: after having checked the opponent‘s personal pool, each player takes his cubes in his hand, secretly shifts the intented number of cubes to his other hand and reveals simultaneously the bit. E.g., our player takes his 3 cubes, shifts one to his right fist and reveals it. The opposite player bits 2 cubes. Our Player wins 3:2 - 1 cube plus the bonus of 2 from the lighthouse (village!). d) (not shown) The opponent looses the duel and has to suffer the loss. He removes one settlement stone from his personal display and places his 2 invested cubes back to his personal pool. Our winning player instead, puts his invested cube to the common pool. e) The 2 special cards are discarded. Play proceeds with the next player ... and so on ...
