Assessment
Each student’s academic performance
is graded according to the following
criteria: exams and assignment results,
attendance, and class participation.
Students usually take regular
examinations twice per semester (mid-term
and final). They may also be given
additional assignments by their professors.
A minimum 70% of attendance is required
in order for a student to earn a passing
grade. A student’s performance is normally
graded on a 100 point scale.

and also to make friends from all over the world in my course. Whilst studying with KU
students, I was the most deeply impressed and moved to see how focused they were

things, such as good restaurants or interesting parts of town. In addition, I have become
great friends with many other buddies and we regularly get together for lunches or drinks
in the evening. They have done an amazing job at introducing me to Korean culture.
For example, one of my friends let me tag along to witness a very interesting orientation
ceremony for freshman students. Another friend brought me and some other exchange
students to “chant orientation” where we learned, in a stadium full of freshmen students,
all the songs and dances that KU students perform in synchronization when they play

friendship between friends regardless of nationality. In addition, I like the spectacular
buildings on campus of which I call ‘castles’, and the easy access that KU has to various

in a multi-cultural environment. I admire the internationalization that KU has achieved.

Living in Seoul has allowed me to absorb a culture which is very much different from

streets around the KU Campus. It is full of super cheap food and small niche shops.
Another thing that I found fascinating about Korea is the nightlife. Nightlife in Korea is
thriving, with districts dedicated to night clubs, and shopping centers that close in the
early morning! As nighttime approaches, the streets become filled with people looking
for a way to unwind, whether it is with singing at a karaoke room, dancing in a club, or
playing Starcraft at a nearby Internet Café.
Coming to KU was a great choice, and I plan to come back to Korea as soon as I can!

Korea and find work here as
soon as possible. I am indebted
to the amazing people I have
met through Korea University,
who have played such a large
role in making Seoul feel like
my home away from home.”
Coming from a very different cultural environment, life in Korea has offered nothing but
pleasant surprises. Cultural events, historical sites, danggu-halls, the nightlife, friendly
people, shopping, and last-but-definitely-not-least delicious Korean food have given me
a wealth of new experiences. I am so enamored with life in Korea that the prospect of
returning home after only one too-short year saddens me.

Other Study Programs
In addition to the Student Exchange Program and Visiting Student Program, there are
two other programs that students can apply to study at KU. They are the International
Summer Campus (ISC) which is also organized by the Office of International Affairs
and the Korean language program which is offered by the Korean Language & Culture
Center (KLCC). The following is a brief introduction to ISC and KLCC. For more detailed
information, you may visit their websites and direct requests and inquiries to ISC and
