In 1946 the world-renowned John T. Floore Country Store
opened its doors. This quintessential Texas Honky Tonk
in Old Town Helotes is known by many as the musical
“birthplace” of Willie Nelson. John T. Floore built the
store and dance hall in 1946, offering “bar, café, dance,
meats, groceries, real estate and everything nearly at
Floore Country Store.” For over 60 years, country music
performers big and small have played at Floore’s, and
many still do; notables include the legendary Willie Nelson,
Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Jerry
Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, George Jones,
Waylon Jennings, Dwight Yoakam, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl
Keen, B.B. King, Little Richard and many, many more.
