Update on Community Life
I love summertime in HomeTown. This is my seventh year walking the community with my husband and kids, visiting the parks and
catching up with friendly faces. We moved here when there was only one park and the space was just cleared for the foundation of
the Café. Most streets came to a premature stop with nothing but fields and the idea that they would one day continue north
towards Allen School. Touring the neighborhood took about ten minutes on foot and that was with two little ones in a wagon
following close behind. What change a few years can make! Now our family evenings are spent visiting the large parks or dropping
in on a neighborhood Whiffle Ball game at one of the numerous smaller neighborhood park areas. We normally top off our
evenings with a stop at the Café for ice cream or a cool drink after our trek around the expanding confines of our neighborhood.
More than just our neighborhood size is changing. It’s exciting to see more parents become involved in our school district and
our city at large. We’ve seen success with the addition of a new community event called the Taste of HomeTown that will return
for years to come at the request of many neighbors. There are new forms of communication with the start of the Community Life
website – www.hometowncl.com. This is a great way for people to keep updated on current community events, see fun neighborhood photos and keep in touch with others. There is also a new
sign on Simms Street near Four Seasons Boulevard with reminders about upcoming activities.
Amid all the change and expansion one thing remains the same for me, I’m continually impressed
by the friendliness, compassion, dedication and talents of my neighbors. My husband and I can’t
imagine raising our children with anything less than the freedom and positive experiences that
this community has to offer them; from the tireless efforts of our amazing volunteers to the genuine sense of community that we experience daily. This is a place that I am proud to call my
home.

As you can see, O.C. Allen School has been a “construction zone”. All of our construction is set to be completed by the end of July and ready for the students to arrive in
August. We are all very excited and the builder promises that all work is on schedule.
Our Community Advisory Council will host a Community Open House and tour of the
new construction in early Fall. With this construction, Allen will gain eight classrooms, a
remodeled front office/welcoming center, new principal and assistant principal offices,
a parent conference room, and a new lunchroom/multi-purpose room. We look forward
to “showing off” the new space to you soon.

Make sure to mark your calendars for student registration that will be held on three
days in August. All students, even if they already attended Allen School, need to go
through this process. Registration will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, August
10th, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, August 11th and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday,
August 14th. You will need to bring photo identification, proof of residency (utility bill,
lease, etc.) and your child’s birth certificate to registration. If your child is new to our
district, he/she will also need to have a recent medical form. All students entering
kindergarten and fifth grade must also have a physical and return a medical form before
the first day of school. To attend kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or
before September 1, 2006.

This has been a great year for Allen and we are proud of our many accomplishments.
Academically, we made “adequate yearly progress” and are a succeeding school and
we are also the home to the 5th grade district Mathlete winner, Justin Walowski. With
our friends and business partners, we hosted a huge Thanksgiving dinner in November
and an equally successful Family Reading Night in April. We helped those who are not
as fortunate as we are with numerous penny drives, clothing drives and food drives.
Additionally, we celebrated all our wonderfully diverse cultures and heritages with
research projects, parties and exhibits.
Allen is proud to be part of the East Aurora School District and the Aurora community.
We pride ourselves on our GREAT students, extraordinary teachers and staff and our
wonderful and supportive families. We hope you are having a terrific summer and look

our neighbor, Dave Zielinski, who wanted to impress a girl. It evolved from an afternoon
grill-out to an all day event with friends, family and neighbors no matter what day of the
week. The original intent of this article was to extend an invitation to all of HomeTown
to celebrate the fourth annual Dave Day: “Seas the Dave” (it’s a pirate theme) with us.

Unfortunately, our intent has been changed to write an article to remember Dave.
Tragically, on April 12th, Dave passed away as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Who was Dave? Dave was the neighbor everyone should have known. Always
smiling, ready to hang out, generous to a fault, jungle gym for the kids and just all
around genuinely nice guy. To us, he was a big part of what makes HomeTown such
a great place to live.
So, if this July 27th, you happen to see a pirate flag and a smoking grill, come join the fun and
help us celebrate a person worth celebrating. We’ll miss you, Dave. Long live Dave Day.

Easter EGGtravaganza
Most recently the topic has come to our attention that

It was a perfect day for the annual HomeTown Easter Eggtravaganza. The
sun was shining, the temperature was mild, and there was a faint breeze
in the air. Signs of spring were all around. The trees started to show little
green buds. The Crocus’, Daffodils, and Tulips popped up around homes
throughout the neighborhood.

photo opportunities. At one corner of the gazebo was a large white chair
for the guest of honor, the Easter Bunny.
Little boys and girls came from all directions to Town Center Park for the
annual event. Children and adults alike were dressed in their spring
clothes. Kids of all ages carried their Easter baskets of all shapes and
sizes. As they approached, eyes fell on the grassy areas. They were
covered with colored eggs scattered across the fresh green grass in the
park. But the eggs had to wait until the Easter Bunny arrived.
In the meantime, there were other things to do. Some children took
advantage of the nearby playground. Others waited in line to get a balloon
from the Community Christian Church. The crafty ones, made little
bunnies courtesy of help from the new HomeTown Child Care Center. The
hungry ones had a pretzel or nachos and drinks that were served up by
the café. Ryan Hill Realty gave everyone a chance to win a bike.

When the Easter Bunny arrived, everyone was broken up into
age groups. Children under three got to “search” for eggs in the
area between the gazebo and the playground. Those who had a
special ticket in their egg won a gift from Ryan Hill Realty. Then the
children over three “searched” for eggs in the grass between the
gazebo and the fountain. After every egg had been collected, the
Easter Bunny hopped on over pictures. Then the raffle was held,
and there were two winners as one boy and one girl each won
bikes from Ryan Hill Realty.
As pictures were still being taken with the Easter Bunny,
kids popped open their plastic colored eggs to discover their
treasures inside. It was a great time to hang around, visit
with neighbors, and make new friends. Join us again
next year!
HomeTown: The HomeTown Homeowners Association
(HOA) and the HomeTown Condominium Association’s
(HCA). Each association is totally separate and they
serve completely different purposes. Essentially, the
HomeTown Condominium Association’s have the
responsibility for managing and maintaining only the
condominium buildings themselves, which includes
the exteriors of the buildings and front porches. The
HomeTown Homeowners Association has the
responsibility to manage and/or maintain the entire
overall community including but not limited to the Living
Lanes, Living Courts, Motor Courts, Neighborhood Parks,
Ponds; this includes all snow removal and landscaping.
Each homeowner in HomeTown is a member of the
HomeTown Homeowners Association (HOA). In
addition to being members of the HOA, condominium
owners are members of their respective HomeTown
Condominium Association (HCA).

CREATIVE KIDS – A volunteer led story, craft and snack time designed for kids.

Kids meets in the Café the second Saturday of the month at 10am. It’s a great way to

Fox Valley Park District on Mondays from 1-3pm in the HomeTown Park. Children must be
entering 1st grade through 5th grade. The program starts June 19th and will end July 24th. Parents this exciting program
is designed to expose children to a variety of art mediums in your own backyard. Within this program the children will have
many opportunities to draw and paint, crafts and create. The cost of the program is FREE! A waiver needs to be filled out
for you child to participate. Waivers will only be available at the park starting the first day of the program. You may sign up

MEN’S GROUP – Come join us on Saturday mornings in the Café from 7:30-9am. This is a great opportunity to meet
some neighborhood guys and make a positive impact on your community. The group leader, Tom Natiello, puts it this way,
“I have been living in HomeTown for more than a year now and I’m learning what community can be. The houses are nice
but the real advantage we have in our neighborhood is the chance to do life together through our events and activities. I’ve

Mommy & Me – Under New Ownership
On May 1, 2006 Mommy & Me opened under new ownership. We are
at the same location, next to the post office. Our new hours are
Tuesday thru Sunday from 12:00pm – 7:00pm. In the store you can
find new European and US popular brands for infants, toddlers, kids,
and European toys. We also have gentle used clothing for all ages.
Mommy & Me will be accepting clothing and furniture for consignment

Summer time is finally here which means construction in HomeTown Aurora’s Town Center has become a flurry of activity. Building #2 (the
one with the postal center) has been constructed and there is only one remaining unit available. The tenants in building #2 consists of : The
Loft sales office, the postal center, Mommy & me, and Ryan Hill Realty.
Believe it or not, building #1 (the building nearest Four Seasons Blvd) has been completed! The tenant; HomeTown Child Care, opened for
business on May 1st. They have an open door policy and welcome all residents and neighbors to stop by and check out the new facility.
Three of the five spaces available in building #4 (building nearest Serendipity) are currently leased. Shamrock Mortgage will occupy two of
the spaces, and one other space will be occupied by an American Family Insurance Agency. There are currently two spaces available in
building #4
Building #3, the one which commenced construction in early spring, should be complete by the end of summer with the first couple of
commercial tenants moving in soon after.
With the residential and commercial space becoming occupied, the Town Center and Town Center Park (TCP) should be full of activity this
coming summer. As this will be a very popular place to “hang out”. We have created a few simple rules so that everyone may feel welcome to enjoy Town Center Park.
1. Dogs are welcome, but MUST be kept on the sidewalks and parkways around TCP and MUST be kept on a leash. As a friendly
reminder, please do not forget to clean up after little “Fido”.
2. If you would like to host a party at Town Center Park, or some
other meeting of ten (10) or more persons present, please be sure to
contact me at the number listed below for availability and guidelines.
3. At the west end of TCP (near Four Seasons Blvd.) we have a kids’
interactive water fountain. Anyone may use the fountain, but it is
recommended that a parent/guardian be present. On the east side of
TCP (near Serendipity Dr.) we have our Community Fountain.
Although we welcome children throwing pennies into the fountain
(all proceeds donated to charity), we ask that parents/guardians not
allow their children or pets play on or in the fountain.
4. Please note: There are “HomeTown” chairs scattered throughout
TCP for your enjoyment. The chairs are a permanent fixture in the park
and are meant to remain within the park for your convenience. Please
do not “borrow” the chairs and take them out of Town Center Park.
5. Above all, please have fun and enjoy the park!!!
In the Town Center we have units available for rent from 600 square feet up to 6700 square feet at very competitive rates. We also have 530
square feet (currently two ~265 square foot units), and a 739 square foot unit (ready for immediate occupancy) at the Bigelow Homes main
office, located at the east end of Town Center Park. Please feel free to contact me if you, or someone you know, would like more information
regarding leasing space in the Town Center.
