Letter from the Executive Director
2
Dear Patrons,
The lazy days of summer are over and it’s now time to fall back into the routine of
work and school. As always, the Genesee District Library will be the study spot
of choice for many students who regularly reserve study rooms, fill the computer
labs, access free Wi-Fi, and hold study sessions in the library’s reference area.
Plus, unlike Google and other search engines, the GDL provides access to reliable
research resources online at thegdl.org, as well as knowledgeable reference
librarians to assist you.
Our fall programming will include an appearance by financial expert
Liz Pulliam Weston on Friday, October 5 at the Grand Blanc McFarlen Library
(details on front cover). Ms. Weston will provide some wonderful tips on how to
better deal with your personal finances during these tough economic times.
She will also be appearing at the Women’s Expo on October 6th at 1 pm.
Visit thegdl.org and click on the Events tab for more information about the expo.
Both of Ms. Weston’s appearances are made possible by a grant from the FINRA
Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing @ your library, a
partnership with the American Library Association. There are business resources available at the GDL Business Center, located inside
the Grand Blanc McFarlen Library. You can also email your business reference
questions to twinn@thegdl.org.
Scan for the GDL website
Some other highlights from our fall programming lineup include a visit from a
HGTV personality, a fun-filled Halloween event at the Genesee Valley Center,
a holiday concert from Paul Vondiziano, a variety of seminars, including getting
organized, and of course, computer classes.
The GDL is also excited to expand its online offerings to include Freegal. This
new service allows patrons to download popular music directly from the website.
Stop by one of the 19 area GDL locations or check in with us on Facebook,
LinkedIn, and thegdl.org.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Nash, MLS, PHR
Executive Director, Genesee District Library
