ENGINE UPDATE: After sleeveing the block and fabricating a new pully set up we feel
that a goal of 1000hp is obtainable. However due to the owners wish to have this car
maintainable as a “bulletproof” daily driver it has been detuned to 800rwhp.
Project quote of the day
"Bet it whines like a 5 year old that's not allowed in
McDonalds for tea."

10/22/04 The car has
finally arrived we have
sifted through the boxes
and begun the process to
reaching the projects goal.
As with most projects of
this type you have to start
someplace. And the most
logical place would be
with the block.
This project is currently
on its way to having the
following upgrades.
Vortec V2 SQ
Supercharger
CF High capacity
Discovery Intake Plenum
Low compression (9.5:1)
engine with cams, ported
heads, lightweight Carillo
rods, Arias pistons with
gapless ring kit, TI valves
and valve springs, micro
polished crank, cryo
treated+NI coated block
ACS Front Diffuser (to be
painted and installed)
ACS rear roof spoiler( to
be painted and installed)
and?.....
The new side skirts are set
for fitting
The covers get painted
Detail shots
Here is a picture of the
DCS motor bracket being
modified to fit on the
inside of the frame rail.
The OEM placement is
outside of the frame rail
Here is a picture of the
DCS pump now neatly
mounted inside the frame
rail. This particular
modification is required in
order to proper place the
intake tube and the two
mass air flow sensors.
After having OZ Racing
refurbish the wheels
during which time the
width and offsets were
changed so as to
accommodate the new set
of Pirelli PZERO
ROSSO's. The front tires
are 275-30-19 and the rear
tires are 295-30-19.
Here is the engine being
assembled and readied for
installation
engine, transmission, and
heavy duty driveline are
in………….
The differential has been
removed in preparation of
the new assembly
designed to take ALL that
can be thrown at it…… In
addition a upgraded
driveshaft was designed,
built, and installed to with
stand all the extra
twisting…..TORQUE……
Custom water injection
tanks designed to fit
behind the fender on the
driver's side……all they
require are for the bungs
to be installed for the
BMW OEM level sensor,
the BMW OEM filler neck
assembly, a vent hose, and
the feed line for the fully
map able Aquamist water
injection system.
This shot shows the rear
bumper off and ready to
go to the painter
The rear bumper, the
Rieger side skirts, and the
AC Schnitzer rear diffuser
loaded ready to go
The Custom D/A
differential goes back in
Being prepared to fit the
Supercharger and
supporting pieces
More parts added 11/11
The "Race Version" High
Velocity Vortech
Supercharger
Here are the stainless steel
oil and fluid transfer
manifolds fabricated to
facilitate the relocating of
the oil filter and the power
steering reservoir to the
passenger side. Connected
to these manifolds will be
Aeroquip hose and
applicable Aeroquip
fittings.
New Custom Cats ready to
go in
Here are 3 pictures of the
“N-Tercooler” system's
spray bar being fit to the
heat exchanger
New pedals
Rear window diffuser
being installed
New Rear diffuser
Here are the Rieger side
skirts during the final
stages of the installation
process. The personality
of this BEAST and its
owner are beginning to
become visible to all. No
longer are the changes
subtle, the transformation
has begun.
Here is the complete water
injection system installed
complete with custom
fluid tank, AquaMist high
speed/volume race pump,
2 accumulator, pressure
switch. The tank was
fabricated with the
integration of OEM filler
neck, OEM level sensor,
and is baffled at the fluid
exit point so the breath of
this BEAST is always
cooled. The only pieces
that are not concealed
behind the fender are the
high-speed-valve that is
mapped by means of the
computer and the 2
discharge nozzles.
Here are Brembo's
“BADBOY ” big brake kit
finally installed. These are
the light weight GTR
calipers. Vented 8 Piston
differential bore calipers
with 4 pads at each of the
front wheel s that will
squeeze hard against 15”
slotted rotors. At the rear
are the light weight GTR 4
piston calipers that will
squeeze hard against the
13.5” rotors. This gal will
be extremely fast and
quick in both
directions………….
Accelerating and
stopping…………
Just like her twin we feel that it is imperative that one is able to monitor the new operating parameters of such an extreme
machine so the instrument cluster was removed so that the gauges can be refaced with a more appropriate 210 mp/h
speedometer and a recalibrated rev-limiter with the led lights modified to show the cars new operating parameters……..
7500 RPM with a RED tattle tail led shinning brightly as it passes through 7500RPM quickly approaching 8000RPM.
The juice bottle is now
ready for final
plumbing.......
The finish trim still has to
be installed and the blue
tape removed that was
used to keep from
damaging the paint and
label during the mounting
process.
Here are pictures of the
AC Schnitzer 3 piece deck
lid spoiler installed.
After extensive discussion with the vehicles owner it was decided that 800hp was not going to be sufficient for this
project. At this point the entire engine was dismantled and the block sent out to Darten to be sleeved.
Basically, it's back to square one with a new goal in mind – 1000hp
Here are the blocks as
returned from the
machinist, fully protected
from the elements
Here is a picture of the
surface/deck of the fully
machined block with a
pair of the Darten sleeves
visibly pressed in place
Here are pictures of the
sleeves as seen from the
inside of the block if one
were looking through oil
pan area
Reassembly has begun!
The under side of the car
as the assembly was being
installed
The engine assembled
ready for the Supercharger
to be installed
The Blitz gauges mounted
in the pillar post. They
include Boost and EGT.
The A/F will be monitored
through an HKS Knock
Amp setup
Another Update of the
Engine Bay With the
Supercharger mounted.
The comparison of the
new higher boost pulley
compared to the first
pulley. Estimation is now
at 22lbs of boost with this
pully set up.
Pictures of the motor
assembled with the
stainless plumbing and oil
separator in place
Carbon Fiber discharge
tubes having the water
injection bungs bonded in
place
Carbon Fiber intake tube
having the machined
aluminum collar bonded
in place
Just prior to fitting the
radiator
After the radiator and the
AC condenser was
installed
Looking like she is VERY
anxious to be driven
Even the trunk received a
face lift…… new sub
woofer filler panel
trimmed and carpeted to
match the rest of the trunk
A cross over and a remote
control was added for the
convenience of adjusting
the sub woofer levels.
Previously this was done
within the trunk
The front heat exchanger
with the NOS spray bar
located with provisions
made to remotely mount
the solenoid
A bit of eye candy
The final plenum wiring
being completed
The intercooler pump
neatly tucked within the
lower right corner of the
car
Here is red lighted master
arming switch along with
the red system purge
button for the NOS
system. Along side of
these switches is the
subwoofer volume control
Here is the micro switch
as mounted for the full
throttle actuation of the
NOS system. The purple
leads in the center of the
picture lead you to the
switch
This the beginning of what
it take to bring all the
systems into play. The
brake booster area under
the fresh air filter on the
driver's side is used to
integrate the fuse block,
the relays, the pair of
vacuum switches, and
what seemed like miles of
wire
This is what it looks like
after everything is
completed, wired in
nicely, serviceable, and
ready for the fresh air
filter to be installed
The Dragon Breaths!
One 2 second squirt of
NOS and the front of the
car is frozen. (thats frost!!)
And another long night
comes to a close as the
hood is shut on her for the
first time since her 1000hp
heart transplant.
The lights and systems
check has been
completed.......... The
Road Warrior is very close
to terrorizing the
neighborhoods.... Maybe
even yours.
The horns relocated and
the air filter with mass air
flow sensors in place
The AC Schnitizer
flippers installed
the HKS Knock AMP
monitoring head and
control unit is in place and
working......
The engine bay completed
and buttoned up
Wondering why there is
no Dyno sheets on this
car? The answer is a
simple one; with a brand
new engine it makes no
sense to twist it out to
8000+. Redline is 8800
The dyno runs we have
done were for tuning
purposes only. We can
share that at 6000rpm the
engine was putting down
well over 600rwhp
running only a little more
then half its boost. When
at its full peak potential
the Blower will be at
22lbs. boost.
The last and final shots of
her at D/A
4:00pst any minute now
her proud owner is due to
take her home.
For us at D/A the 3 1/2
months shes been here has
made her one of the
family.
From everyone here at the
