It is an unfortunate reality that
poverty is a significant risk factor to
being successful in school. Research
suggests that children who live in
poverty can eventually move out
of poverty through academic
success (Morgenson, WLU, 2013).
We gratefully acknowledge the countless individuals and volunteers along with the
following donors for their support which enabled us to deliver our program in 2013:
At Send ‘em Off Smiling, we
provide students with an increased
opportunity for academic success
by confidentially providing them
with new clothes, shoes and school
supplies before school starts each fall.
We need your help to continue
our mission to set kids in Waterloo
Region on a more hopeful path.
We are in need of driven and
committed people to share their
talents and time by joining our
Board of Directors. We specifically
need someone to oversee
Fundraising efforts. We also need
sub-committee members to assist
with many of our day-to-day
operations. All positions require year
around commitment, but our busiest
time is June, July and August.

Workplace Campaigns rally groups to fund-raise, shop, organize, and fill backpacks
for our kids. These organizations work tirelessly and fund raise in so many creative
ways – bake sales, garage sales, used book sales, carnivals (that have included dunk
tanks!), games, and BBQs. Together they filled backpacks for 451 kids!

Send ‘em Off Smiling Children’s Charity is a registered charity founded locally in 1994.With the help
of countless volunteers and sponsors, SOS provides new clothes, shoes, and school supplies to elementary
school aged kids who need them most.Through confidential referrals by teachers, we collect, assemble and
deliver a completely personalized, full backpack directly to each child in time to go back to school in September.
