Dear Architect,
The Government of Maharashtra has planned to develop a Chattrapati Shivaji Memorial
off the Coast in Arabian Sea Near Marine Drive, Mumbai Maharashtra, India
The Memorial Complex Shall be of International Standards meeting all requirements for
an offshore memorial with public facilities. The memorial complex shall incorporate various requirements
as mentioned on website www.maharashtra.gov.in of Govt. of Maharashtra. You are requested to refer
and respond with conceptual ideas based on location of the site that may be befitting to the city, status &
stature of Maharashtra for Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial.

Sub :- Construction of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial in Arabian Sea, Mumbai
1)
Introduction and Background :Government of Maharashtra intends to develop the Statue Memorial of Chatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj in Arabian Sea Near Marine Drive, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

The site is located as a basalt rocky out crop of elliptical / egg shape place having
approximate size of 650m x 325 m at lowest tide level. This out crop measures about 15.96
hectares and is surrounded by additional 17.67 hectares shallow Bank all around. This
rocky out crop is situated about 1.2 km South-South West of Rajbhavan, 3.6 km in South
West direction form H2O Jetty at Girgaon and 2.6 km from West of Nariman Point.
The latitude of site is 18 0 55’ 33.8” N and longitude of the site is 72 0 47’25.0” E.

Proposal detail and tentative plan :3.1
It is proposed to build a world class monument of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
who is acknowledged as a national level icon and patriot of India, who initiated
the struggle against foreign rule and set up the Maratha Dynasty.
3.2
The height of the statue should be 312 feet. (Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Riding a
Horse)
3.3
The statue of Shivaji Maharaj is proposed as an Equestrian Statue. The
surrounding area will have beautifully landscaped gardens and open space to
accommodate 3000 persons at a given time.
3.4
A state of the art museum is proposed to be built at the site of the monument
containing some of artifacts used by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and extracts of
his inspirational writings.
3.5
It is proposed to have an amphitheatre and auditoria of various sizes as per
requirement with back stage facilities.

It is proposed to have an exhibition gallery in which life panorama of Chatrapti
Shivaji Maharaj will be displayed by artistic murals.
3.7
This proposal will have marine aquarium, water adventure sports with sound and
light shows.

It is proposed to have common facility such as Reception, Cafeteria, Lavatories,
Book stalls etc for the visitors.

It is proposed to have a viewing gallery at the apex of Statue.

It is proposed to have adequate security installations with latest technology.
3.10.1
It is proposed to have Efficient clean water supply & sanitary fittings and
fixtures with appropriate services.

3.10.2 Energy Efficient electrical fittings & fixtures.
3.10.3 Possible use of solar energy.
3.10.4 Storm water utilization
3.10.5 Renewable energy conservation
3.10.6 Waste water treatment plant
3.10.7 Water recycle & reuse (including rain water)
3.10.8 Optimise design to reduce conventional energy, water, etc

It is proposed to have adequate number of jetties to facilitate transport from
marine drive and Gateway of India etc.

It is Proposed to have adequate office facilities for support staff.

It is Proposed to have large open space, landscape, paved area etc.
Nature of Construction and activities :It is proposed to reclaim the area of rock out crop portion admeasuring about 15.96
hectares (159600.00 smt) This area will be secured by natural sub marine rock / Sea wall
/ Retaining wall etc with a shape of fort.
