The interchangeable lenses included with Rudy Project Technical
Performance frames present unique challenges for prescription
eyewear. The key factors that are considered in determining
the final edge thickness and eye size with a patient’s specific
prescription are:

In a standard frame the patient’s line of sight is aligned with the optical center of the lens. When a lens is mounted in

1. In the case of untreated surfaces, droplets of water acquire a semi-spherical shape and adhere to the surface.
When the lens is tilted the droplet resists sliding and leaves traces of water on the surface.
2. Observing a droplet of water on a water repellent surface, we see that it acquires a spherical shape, with a
high contrast angle. The water droplet is repelled by the treatment and slides off, leaving the surface
practically dry and free from distorting water prisms.

What are ImpactRx™ FreeForm TEK lenses?
FreeForm TEK™ lenses with Eyepoint Technology® are
digitally surfaced on the back surface for the most exact,
customized vision and are designed exclusively for Rudy
Project frames. FreeForm TEK™ lenses are available in Rudy
Project’s ImpactRx™ photochromic, photochromic polarized
and fixed tint polarized material in both progressive and
single vision. FreeForm TEK™ lenses are the closest thing
to perfect vision available for Rx sports today. The lenses
offer unparalleled visual acuity at every angle and distance
and are designed to restore your natural vision. When you
combine this awesome lens technology with our award
winning Technical Performance frames Rudy Project is the
unquestioned leader in Rx sport optics.
Q2 A
If a patient has prism in their new Rx, can they still do a
direct in frame Rx? Would added prism make it too difficult
for the patient to adapt? Is there a limit to the amount of
prism and how does that figure into the Rx parameters?
First, we consider the prescription itself. We start by
compensating wrap about 2.00 Diopters (+/-) and stop at
about 4.00D (+/-). Then if there is prism, we generally do not
compensate because that would add more prism in both
the “In” and “Up” direction. If a patient already has too much
prism in opposite directions (over .25 D “Out” and/or
“Down”), it would be too much.

Can a Rudy Rx job be submitted as a VSP claim?
A patient’s VSP claim for a Rudy Project Technical
Performance frame containing prescription lenses can be
submitted using VSP’s Special Allowance procedures
(see page 111).
Q4 A
What’s ABBE value?
ABBE value relates to chromatic dispersion of the lens
material. Our ImpactRx® material has an ABBE value of 45
while polycarbonate has an ABBE value of 29. Consider
ABBE value in relation to what the patient is wearing in their
dress eyewear. The same can be said for base curve.
An optician should always know what lens material and
base curve a patient is wearing in each pair of glasses to
educate their patient in Rx choices.
Q5 A
Do we have any statistics on what lenses are redone most
often due to customer not adapting to the wrap?
Nowadays true non-adapts are rare. A patient’s inability to
tolerate an Rx is almost always the result of fitting a
progressive too high. Generally, a seg-height needs to be
lower than normal, or in the “as worn” position, to allow for a
cyclist raising their chin while riding, as an example. It is very
important to have the optician mark the optical center of the
lens, just as they would for a progressive.

What does “prescription limit in the horizontal meridian”
refer to in the Rx?
Horizontal portion or along the 180. Basically, any thickness in
the lens that shows at the nasal or temporal side of the lens.
Q7 A
Why is the lensometer reading different from the prescription
that I ordered?
This is due to the Panoramic (face form) Angle of wrap frames.
The lensometer power is not equal to the “as worn” power
because the prescription ground into the lenses takes into
consideration that power changes when wearers look
through the lens at an angle instead of perpendicularly like
standard dress wear.

• Sending frames to Rudy Rx should contain:
Attention: Rx Department in large letters on outside of box
and should be sent in a traceable manner.
• Copy of invoice and notes as to reason for returned Rx order
must be included.
• The vast majority of Rudy Rx orders are delivered within seven
(7) business days.
• No rush orders - Rudy Project Rx lab work is high precision
custom eyewear. The process is not the same as standard or
dress eyewear.

Lens Only
Although Rudy Project can produce Lens Only orders for Direct
Interchangeable frames, it is highly recommended that the
frame be provided. Please refer to the Rudy 2013 Rx Order Form
on page 114 of this catalog for shipping instructions.Accounts
are responsible for shipping frame & lenses back to Rudy Project
for any lens fit issue if a frame was not provided with the original
order. A Shipping & Handling fee of $12.95 will be assessed upon
return of the frame and lenses.
Lens and Scratch Warranty
Lenses are warranted for a period of one year against manufacturer
defects, scratching, pitting and chipping. Anti-reflective and mirror
coatings are warranted for a period of one year. The lens warranty
is also limited to a one time replacement of the same Rx and material
in the original frame. Damage due to improper care and handling
is not covered. The determination as to improper care and handling
shall be made at the sole discretionof Rudy Project.
Progressive Non-adapt Warranty
Non-adapt to progressive changed to single vision will be done
one time, at no charge if notified with in the first 3 months of
the original order. A change in fitting measurement, prescription
power or a different progressive design is allowed at a one time
50% discount, within 6 months of original order date. Any charges
not on the original invoice will be billed at full price. Credit will be
issued upon return of old lenses. For accurate and expedited credit,
please include the original invoice number, date and reason
for change.
Doctor Re-do
Lenses will be re-made in the same frame at a 50% discount if
the original Rx was made within the prior 6 months. The original
lenses, original invoice number and date must accompany your
request for remake.
Our Lab Errors
Rudy Project will remake any lenses made incorrectly. Credit will
be issued upon receipt of old lenses. Please be specific about the
reason for requesting a remake. The invoice number, date and
reason for the redo must be included in order for credit to be
issued.
Rx Changes / Cancelled Jobs

If the lenses are not yet in process, Rx changes will be accepted
at no charge. Canceled jobs will be billed at 50%. New orders will
be billed at 100%.

How to File a VSP Claim using the Rudy Project
Authentic Sun Rx Program
Special Lens Allowance
Rudy Project’s Technical Performance prescription eyewear is
proprietary, unique and requires highly specialized edging equipment
to fabricate. For these reasons, Rudy Project prescription lenses
do not have an assigned VSP category and code. However, Rudy
Project’s prescription lenses are considered by VSP to fall within a
category known as Special Lenses. Special Lenses are VSP approved
and may be dispensed to VSP members by using a unique claims
filing process known as Special Lens Allowance, or Special Lens
Option. In most cases, dispensing Special Lenses allows Eye Care
Professionals to retain the highest possible profit available with
VSP - Special Lenses are treated as private pay jobs (and therefore
may be processed through Rudy Project’s Authentic Sun Rx program)
yielding total revenue equal to 20% off retail. VSP will pay an
allowance toward the cost of these lenses in addition to your
assigned lens dispensing fee.
FREEFORM TEK™ REWARDS
Earn up to $20 cash with every pair of Rudy Project FreeForm
TEK™ lenses you dispense. Go to the Dealer Corner on MyRudy
- follow the instructions and fill out the enrollment form. Once
the form is processed, you will receive a check from Rudy Project
each quarter that is composed of $20 for each pair of FreeForm
TEK™ PAL lenses and $10 for every pair of FreeForm TEK™ SV lenses
that your account has dispensed.
