Logging a Flight using wACARS The purpose of this training presentation will cover how to start and log a Flight/PIREP for Virtual Northwest Airlines . This presentation will give step by step illustrations of the process of starting and capturing a flight using the World ACARS system. Logging a Flight using wACARS You should have already activated your wACARS account and have the software loaded on your computer. The first step is start your Flight Simulator and set up your flight. Flight simulator needs to be running so wACARS will recognize it to start the tracking. Make sure your engines are shut down. Next you need to open wACARS Logging a Flight using wACARS Open the wACARS program to acquire the screen below. Enter your Username and Password, click login & Connect to FS Logging a Flight using wACARS Once you log in you should see your wACARS screen like below with all your pilot information and connection confirmation. Logging a Flight using wACARS Next click on the “Schedule Tab”. Select You your departing city out of the drop box and click on “Get Schedule” can also bid on your flight from the Website as well. Logging a Flight using wACARS Once a departure airport is chosen you will see a list of flights departing from that airport . Click to highlight your flight and click on the “Bid on Flight” button The “Bid Added” button will indicate a successful flight bid Logging a Flight using wACARS Next click on the “PIREP” tab to return to the screen below Click on the “Get Flight Info button to retrieve your flight bid information You would get the same information from a flight bid chosen from the Website Logging a Flight using wACARS Next you should see your “Flight Found!” information/data in most of the blocks below Verify that the correct information is listed for your flight bid Logging a Flight using wACARS The next step is a very important one, you need to input your flight level (altitude) you will be flying the route at. If you do not input the altitude you will get an error message Enter your “Flight Level” here Logging a Flight using wACARS Next you need to click on the “Start Flight” button and see a similar screen below You should see “Recording” and data in the “Flight Log” box. Your PIREP is active and you are ready to fly. Logging a Flight using wACARS The next few slides will show examples of the system in flight and other tabs you see on wACARS. Logging a Flight using wACARS From the PIREP Tab this shows the aircraft climbing right after departure and the time stamped Flight Log. Logging a Flight using wACARS The next 3 slides will show examples of the “Aircraft Data” captured in flight that will determine acceptable flight/PIREP conditions for a flight. The chat window is on the right side. Logging a Flight using wACARS The next few slides will cover finishing your flight and filing your PIPREP This is what you will see once you have parked at the gate and shut down your engines Logging a Flight using wACARS Once the engines are shut down, ensure that your Parking Brakes are set. (Do Not Shut Down Flight Simulator prior to filing a PIREP) Submit Click button. any comment or issues you may have had with the flight. on “Stop Flight” and next click on the illuminated “File PIREP” Logging a Flight using wACARS You should see a pop-up window indicating that your PIREP was filed. Click on “OK” to confirm and close confirmation window. Logging a Flight using wACARS Congratulations!, You have successfully recorded a flight and submitted your PIREP into Virtual Northwest’s World ACARS System Click on “Web Browser” to access the home page and your Pilot Center.
