AKG TCP1 & TCP2 TEMPERATURE PROBES
In reviewing the installations of the TCP1 and TCP2 Temperature Probes, AKG has
discovered a possible issue when there are inadequate ground connections, corroded
connections, or poor power supply connections in the installation wiring.
These poor connections can cause the voltage across the probe to fall below our volts,
causing extreme thermal stresses in the TCP electronics which may cause the TCP to fail.
• As a preventative measure AKG will be supplying a Power Module with all TCP1 and
TCP2 temperature probes to eliminate this potential problem.
• The Power Module will shut down the power to the TCP probe and fan when the
voltage across the probe falls below 6.5 volts. The Power Module will automatically reset the TCP probe when full voltage is returned.
• This Power Module is also available as a retrofit kit for units in the field.
• The Power Module is an IP67, fully sealed control which is mounted between the
TCP and the fan motor.
• The Power Module will work with either 12V or 24V DC installations.
• An installation drawing below and/or attached shows the proper placement.
• It is also the customer’s responsibility to properly fuse the fan power at the power
source with a fuse size per the fan amps listed in the D, DC, or DCS cooler brochure.

field retrofit of tcp1 and tcp2
The power module is installed between the fan and the TCP temperature probe to cut
power to the fan and TCP probe should the voltage across the fan and probe fall below
6.5 volts.
1. Locate and mount the Power Module in a secure location, making sure the 24” leads
will reach the TCP probe (the TCP2 will require two Modules), when mounting to the
shroud be sure to use ¼ or 3/8” screws that will not touch the cooler core.
2. Cut the Red/Black/Blue wire coming from the TCP probe in preparation to splice in the
Module, Strip ~ 1/3-inch of the insulation, mark end going to the TCP unit and the end
going to the fan/ground/power.
3. Splice the Red/Black/Blue wires from the Power Module tagged TO TEMP SWITCH to
the Red/Black/Blue wires from the TCP probe. A splice kit is provided with Power Module.
4. Splice the Red/Black/Blue wires from the Power Module tagged MOTOR/GROUND.
The Module Black Wire to the system ground wire, Module Blue Wire to the fan motor
ground and the Module Red Wire to the incoming power wire.
steps 5-7 are for the tcp2 only
5. On the Coolers with Two fans a second module is required. This module does not
have a red power wire to the TCP2 probe
6. Splice the Black/Blue wires from the Power Module tagged TO TEMP SWITCH to the
Black striped/Blue Striped wires from the TCP probe.
7. Splice the Red/Black/Blue wires from the Power Module tagged MOTOR/GROUND.
The Module Black Wire to the system ground wire, Module Blue Wire to the fan
motor ground and the Module Red Wire to the incoming power wire with the 2 amp
fuse provided.
