Various counselor guided activities are offered including arts & crafts, games, songs, hiking, creeking, and daily swimming. Every week there is a special field trip. There’s always lots of hiking, outdoor education and daily swimming. Every week there is a special field trip. SCHOOLS OUT CAMP (6-12 year olds) This is a great opportunity for the child that doesn’t enjoy the nature setting of our traditional camp. Based at the South YMCA, this camp offers more of a child care setting with activities such as games, movies, arts & crafts, playground time, and more. Swimming will be offered daily and space is limited. SPECIALTY EXPRESS CAMP (7-12 year olds) Each day of this camp has a different destination. Trips include but are not limited to Kings Island, The Beach Water Park, Coney Island, and the Columbus Zoo. Space is limited. It is open to school age children in our community. Safety Around Water classes run Monday through Thursday, with family swim times for participants and their families on Friday. Lego Camp is not another daycare camp that lets kids just play with Lego’s, it is a learning experience. When combined with the Early Simple Machines Activities, young students will be able to build fun and simple models using colorful elements such as a seesaw, rolling vehicle, spinning top, raft, and many more. By playing with and manipulating the models, children experience pulleys, levers, gears, and wheels and axles while exploring energy, buoyancy, and balance. We will work as teams to build and display Simple Machines made out of Legos. June 20 - 24 Learn to Lead June 27 - July 1 Leading Outside the Box We will participate in Mentors Matter, get out and help our community, magazine crafts and then off to the Huber Aquatic Center. This is our last week of Mentors Matter, so we’ll finish up with a golf tournament! We will begin mentoring the younger YMCA Day Campers and end our week at YMCA Camp Kern with the Adventure Challenge. July 4 - 8 Land of the Brave and Home of the Free This week we will be looking into the history of our country and city, then we will go hiking. July 11 - 15 Express Yourself We will spend the week expressing ourselves, whether through art, poetry, dinging or dance. We will end the week with a Talent Show and a visit to COSI. July 18 - 22 I Am a Champion We will enjoy the week with the YMCA Day Campers at the Day Camp Olympics, hosted at the University of Dayton arena. July 25 - 29 Free to be a Teen The teens will pick some of their favorite activities that we have done throughout the summer and we will do them again. We will end the week by skating. August 1 - 5 It’s Not Goodbye, It’s See You Later We will reminisce on the wonderful summer and our memories, then to go the movies. Our week will end with a trip to Skyzone. YMCA TEEN CAMP // 24 YMCA CAMP KERN Residential Camp MAIN CAMP Activities available at Camp Kern include: canoeing, digital photography, archery, tango tower, drama, nature, radio, arts & crafts, sports, swimming, disc golf, rock climbing, and many more. All of Camp Kern’s campers come together during our unique and exciting evening activities. Games such as Toy Story, The Hobbit, and Harry Potter Day make fantasy a reality while building camper teamwork and leadership skills. TRANSPORTATION Most campers are dropped off by car. Any campers flying in should arrive at either Dayton or Cincinnati Int’l Airports. Please call to make any arrangements for our staff to pick your camper up from the airport. OUR FEES Fees include one week of camp, cabin photo, 3 meals each day, a daily snack, and all program supplies. Financial assistance is available. Please call for more information. We camp out together and plays a special village game known only to Frontier each week. Frontier campers enjoy their own pool time for one hour each morning, where they learn some basic water safety in fun and engaging games. Campers then choose two other activities to fill out their daily schedule. Frontier campers cook their own pizza dinner on Monday night, and follow it up with a Frontier campout and campfire. Frontier is the best week in the world for any 7 to 9 year old, regardless of their camp experience in the past. AGES 7-9 PRICE $595 EXPLORER VILLAGE SESSIONS 1-8 Explorer Village Campers will enjoy a thrilling week of fun and adventure. Each week includes the traditional charm of Main Camp including choosing your own activities, with specialized programs only for Explorer Village. Each Tuesday features games such as Capture the Coo Stick, which is both highly entertaining and exhausting. Explorer campers conquer the Giant Swing during their week of fun, and have their first shot at the Archery Range. To round things out, the week features optional Trail Rides, and access to all of the Add-on Programs for Main Camp. AGES 9-11 PRICE $595 ADVENTURE VILLAGE SESSIONS 1-8 No two days are ever the same in Adventure Village. Campers choose their own activities for the week. Adventure participates in the themed all-camp game, along with an individualized campout experience where they camp out with their cabin mates and prepare their own “Hobo Dinner” over a campfire. Village Game night is spent playing Raptor Tag in the evening, a game on which the future of Camp Kern rests. Every camper spends time riding the Double Demon Zipline, and for the first time, shooting at the Rifle Range. If you are ready for Adventure, you will go home with new friends, great memories, and completely exhausted. AGES 11-13 PRICE $595 PIONEER VILLAGE SESSIONS 1-8 Pioneer Village is designed for the teen who still wants the Main Camp experience, but is ready for new challenges. We combine all the fun and excitement of Adventure Village, with bonus features reserved only for Pioneer Village. Pioneer Village campers will choose their own activities for the week, play themed all-camp games, and create traditions which will carry on for years to come. Pioneer Village is the only Main Camp program to do the High Ropes course, and features extra team-building and leadership activities. In the MythBusters program, we’ll be running different experiments in hopes of cracking the case of the world’s greatest myths. Only for the most curious of campers. Our specially trained staff help campers adjust to life at camp, and create a caring atmosphere to ease young campers into the residential camping experience. FIRST CAMP SESSIONS 1-8 This is the perfect opportunity for first time campers to get acquainted with the magic of camp life. Campers will spend Monday and Tuesday participating in Day Camp activities such as Arts & Crafts, Nature Center, Sports, Swimming and Adventure Games. On Wednesday, campers will pack their bags and move into one of our air conditioned cabins. First Camp follows a modified schedule. Monday and Tuesday, campers spend the day at camp and return home each evening. On Wednesday, campers are dropped off in the morning and spend two nights at Camp. On Thursday, pack your bags and head back to camp to spend the night under the stars. Here you will experience a traditional camp out complete with s’mores. Friday night is just as fun with a TOK slumber party unlike any celebration you’ve been to before. With many options to choose from, you are sure to find a Summer Ranch Camp program that will give you memories to last a lifetime. RANCH CAMP SESSIONS 2,6,8 (GIrls only) SESSIONS 1,3,4,5,7 (Coed) Ranchers will experience the joy and responsibility of having their own horse through daily activities such as: grooming, tacking, horseback riding lessons and trail rides. Ranchers will spend most of their week in the saddle, but will also have time to enjoy archery, canoeing, swimming, the rock climbing wall, arts & crafts and much more. All Ranchers will stay at Elk Lodge, where they can see the horses from their bunks. Ranchers will be placed in riding classes based on an assessment of their current riding skills. Intermediate Ranch is a new program designed for Ranchers looking to advance their riding skills. Ranchers will build on their current horse knowledge by learning more about horse riding and care. Whether they ride Western or English, campers will spend most of their week on horseback. In addition to their time spent in the saddle, Intermediate Ranchers will get to experience fun camp activities such as swimming, archery, and the giant swing. ADVANCED RANCH CAMP SESSIONS 3 & 7 (Coed) For advanced riders only, this challenging ranch week is for the more experienced rider. Campers will have advanced lessons in walk, trot, canter, and jumping. More in-depth lessons on barn management, horse health, and jump course design will also be offered. Ranchers will build on their knowledge and expand their horizons. Along with adventures in the saddle, ranchers will experience the same great camp activities such as swimming, rock climbing walls, arts & crafts, and the BIG game. The RLIT program is the first step to developing leadership skills while learning more about owning, riding, and caring for horses. Ranchers will take daily riding lessons, participate in a service project, and begin to develop skills for teaching riding lessons. Ranch Leaders in Training will also visit a horse facility off of Camp Kern, and get the chance to learn about all the ways that horses impact our lives. RLITs will do all of this, while still taking part in traditional camp activities. AGES 14-15 PRICE $660 Ranch Leaders in Training must be intermediate to advanced riders. RANCH COUNSELOR IN TRAINING SESSIONS 3 &4 (Coed) SESSIONS 5 & 6 (Girls Only) This two week program is the first step in becoming a YMCA Camp Kern counselor. The Ranch CIT program is designed to help ranchers develop horse riding and teaching skills, self-confidence, self-awareness, communication skills, and a personal leadership style. Ranch CITs spend their first week honing their skills as riders and lesson instructors, and learning to be positive role models for younger campers. Week gives Ranch CITs the opportunity to practice their leadership by assisting riding lessons, trail rides, and other camp activities. TRAIL WRANGLERS SESSION 6 Saddle up Cowboys and Cowgirls! Trail Wranglers is the perfect week for those ranchers who love to trail ride. The week will include trail riding and camping out with the horses on and off of Camp Kern property. Wranglers will learn to cook over a fire, outdoor living skills, horsemanship, and horseback riding skills. Campers must be intermediate to advanced riders! Now, for one week only, you have the chance to live that same journey. Travel all over camp throughout the week, living out one of the greatest stories ever told. The adventure begins with a run down the Lower New River in duckies (inflatable two person rafts), followed by a wild ride down the Upper New River in a Guided Raft. While living in Wilderness Village, campers participate in the main camp activities and programs while focusing on their leadership skills and program development.
